Zef posted this on the Chameleon site today:

How do you mean customizable? You can replace all the images, the icons, the funny chameleon artwork, the fonts. Also you can set the background color, the transparency levels, the dimensons, positions of certain user interface elements. The image resource files can be either embedded into the booter or can be loaded at runtime by using a special .plist style configuration file.

Doesn’t embedding the images makes the boot loader too large?

With the current set of icons, images, fonts embedded, the booter size is about 300k. Without embedding the resources you will get about a 110k large booter. The maximum size of the booter is 392704 bytes (383.5k).

What image formats are supported?

The booter has built-in support for true color 24 bit PNG images with 8 bit transparency layer. We wanted to offer a high quality lossless image format which can be created, edited with many graphics applications across all platforms.

What if I still prefer the text mode interface?

We can’t switch between text mode and graphical mode at the moment after the booter has been started, but you still have a Boot.plist option to disable the GUI. This way you get the well known text based Darwin boot menu.

.....Read the rest on the Chameleon blog page here.

Hi Res images are available on their blog. IT IS NOT OUT YET SO DON'T BOTHER ASKING

But what about the chime? Is that possible to do in the future maybe? This would really begin to bridge the gaps as well.

Nope, not possible right now and probably never will be... :) because that would mean writing some sort of audio driver for every card out there. Reason: we can't load audio kexts in the bootloader and have it working unless the kernel is also loaded. But don't quote me on that. People working on Chameleon are f'in brilliant.

Nice!!

It could ve usefull a menu option to start in "really" safe mode, without all the known problematic kexts: AICPUPM, DSMOSX, injectors...

You can edit the properties in the kext plist to choose which extension loads in safe mode or not. Using a booter to take control away from kernel, is at best unwise. All kext can be therotically problematic...

OMG, this is awesome!!!!

Can this support booting from Acronis Secure Zone? I hope it can so I can say goodbye to GRUB!

Good Job. I just wet my pants.

Looks nice but the Chameleon sort of kills it... A new logo would definitely be nice. I'll be waiting for the release :)

The version I have now is on the EFI partition but have not got the required kext files on EFI partition

So is this what you mean by EFI Partition and not have any patched kext files in S/L/E ??

Yes, with the new version we will finally be able to put all the patched kexts in the EFI partition instead of OS X partition - and have an UNTOUCHED install. Also, no more AppleSMBIOSEFI.kext; the boot loader now has this function.
