If numbers is as good as I think it is, then bye-bye MS Office (and coincidentally, bye-bye to Rosetta)

I tried it.

From my point of view, Numbers are better than Excel. At least for my rare tasks it should work better. And better in terms of making printable sheets.

I have just been playing around with numbers and I am pretty blown away with some of the features that really make a difference. For example when you select a portion of a graph, the row or column that the data comes from is highlighted so that you can easily see what it relates to. I feel that the numbers approach to spreadsheets will suit people much more than excel unless you are doing serious number crunching.

I have also tried pages and while it is very good and has the nicest UI for tracking changes that I have seen - export to word documents with pictures is BADLY broken especially if you then save the word document in another app and then import it back into pages. Inserting a picture without a placeholder box (like what is included in the templates) results in an image with nasty vertical lines through it in the word doc (when viewed in other apps). Text based docs are OK and the formating seems to come though but Apple really needs to fix this

I haven't had a chance to play with Keynote yet.

As far as I know ALL of the NEW software has this. They'd have no reason not to add it.

So I'm sitting here downloading the Safari 3.03 Windows beta, to check it out, and my mind tweaks back to iWork. Is Apple preparing for a low-cost app suite "assault" on Windows? I know supporting the iPhone is a pretty good reason for porting Safari by itself. But could there be an iWork 08 for Windows in the cards? If they stick to the $80 price point they would even undercut Corel's Wordperfect Home Edition, and IBM Lotus suite is effectively dead (they aren't updating for Vista) That means Apple has that huge "preloaded" market they could sell into. Apple as "bloatware"?

EDIT: Posted from the other side. Curious. Going to take a bit of getting used to the Apple "look". I like the minimal nature of the window container. But the lack of colour, not to mention only resizing from the bottom right, is a bit unnerving. Also the Maximize button doesn't work correctly. *cough* ;)
