Mac OS X 10.5.4 has been released by Apple and is available through Software Update. The Delta Update weighs in at about 59MB. The update appears to be mostly a bug fixing release. MobileMe support is not mentioned in the documentation. 10.5.4 is safe if you have a vanilla install, be sure to back up kexts however.

Here is a list of the main fixes in the release:

-Includes recent Apple security updates.

-Resolves an issue with saving and reopening Adobe Creative Suite 3 files on a remote server.

-Includes additional RAW image support for several cameras.

-Addresses an issue that may result in a partially installed X11 application.

-Improves L2TP VPN client reliability.

-Addresses AirPort reliability issues with 5GHz networks.

-Addresses AirPort issues that may result in slower performance in Logic Studio or MainStage.

-Addresses a potential performance issue when loading secure web pages.

-Resolves issues that may be encountered when accessing secure web pages with client certificates that reside on a smart card.

-Addresses an issue in which switching from a space with a Finder window keeps the Finder as the active application instead of the application residing in the destination space.

-Fixes an issue in which dragging an application from the list of application assignments in Spaces System

-Preferences does not assign the application to the desired space.

-Resolves an Exposé issue that may result in only a subset of windows being shown.

It doesn't look like you have to do the dsmos mod with this.

Should be safe directly from Software Update.

I originally did the Beta upgrade, so my systems said they was up to date! But there were many additions to the newer Update, so I re-did it.

I only had to add my Wireless card's Id to the BCM4311 kext on my HP to get that working again!

All in all the upgrade went smooth on both machines

what about 9600gt, did anyone find device id for 96006t at 10.5.4 update?

I also am on Kalyway 10.5.3, however I don't remember which kernel I checked at install time. Is there any way of figuring out what kernel I'm running (whether it's vanilla or a custom one)?

I see most people missed this part!?

"Download the update installer and run it manually. This is a useful option when you need to update multiple computers but only want to download the update once. These versions of the standalone installers are available from Apple Support Downloads. The Mac OS X 10.5.4 Update is recommended for all versions of Mac OS X 10.5 through 10.5.3.

  • The delta update lets you update from Mac OS X 10.5.3 to 10.5.4
  • The combo update lets you update from Mac OS X 10.5, 10.5.1, 10.5.2, or 10.5.3 to 10.5.4"

Just thought it might answer more questions?

Works on a retail install method, straight from the software update on a GA-P35-D3SL.

Sleep broke, but I am blaming Vmware Fusion 1.1.3 on that. Same thing happened on 10.5.3. I had to deinstall and reinstall Vmware 1.1.3, and sleep is working again. I guess it has to do with the virtual net drivers.

I can confirm that Intel computers with EFI emulation installed can update directly without the need to backup kexts or whatsoever.

Update works on my old AMD64 SC via zephy's SU 0.5

No problems so far. 100% 'Real Mac' feeling.

Worked fine here from 10.5.3 (Which AHCI got screwed on and had to be fixed) - directly from software update. Recommended to all vanilla users.

PS. Ignore my sig - need to updated

I'll try now but I'm backing up using TimeMachine just in case. The last 10.5.3 update showed me the benefit of backing up. It took me a total of 34 hours to install(I forgot to backup).

ipoco> I am with you - I used JaS 10.5.3 update and ended up spending about 2 hours to fix - just needed to replace my AHCI kexts due to my crappy mobo.

The main problem for me was the graphics kexts that I had the sense to backup and replace in the end.

worked almost flawlessly. Was in 10.5.2, upgraded to kaly 10.5.3, lost qe/ci, upgraded to 10.5.4, deleted everything starting with GeForce from /system/library/extensions, reinstalled with NVinstaller_V.41 package. Voila. :( .

overall, seems more stable and an increase in 5 points in the Xbench

Worked flawlessly for me via Software Update.

Updated the backup disk first, just to be sure and then the main.

Don't notice a difference, but haven't played with it much yet.

Worked for me. I used the update dmg not the ComboUpdate. There is no editing required just install I think.

Worked for me flawless using the standalone update package on a core2duo.

Is it safe to update this with Pro Tools? Looks like they're updating...but has that much changed?
