Hi ~pcwiz.

I have been trying to change the resolution settings for Leopard.

I have changed the plist file but it doesn't change the resolution of the OS, is there any other way of changing them?

the resolution I would like is 1280x800, that resolution is what my laptop is set to, I would like to make it VMWare fullscreen to have that res.

All the best

Can anybody help me with changing the resolution of the VM to 1280x800, that res is my laptop's resolution. I would like to have the VM in full screen.

My plist file does not have in the follwoing string

<string>yes</string>

I have the following

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://
www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
		<key>kernel</key>
		<string>mach_kernel</string>
		<key>Kernel Flags</key>
		<string></string>
</dict>
</plist>

Where do I put the "yes" command mentioned above.

Can somebody post how it should look.

Thank you for your time

Hi pcwiz,

Fixed the ethernet problem I had, I had to remove it from the list under network setting in Leopard, then I added a new service and it worked again.

Any ideas how I can change the resolution? I can only choose 1024x768 under display in Leopard, I have tried manually changing the plist file but it does change the diplay.

Thank you for your time

Still can't get past this dark grey screen with the cursor (its not the grey apple screen btw). I left it on overnight last night and it still didn't move on from there.I'm using the do it yourself method so guess I will have to try and download the image and see how I get on with that. (May take some time as I am getting very very slow speeds from the download site.)

HunterSinclair,

Follow NSCXPs suggestion.

NSCXP2005,

Yes I got it working with the second method. Here is what com.apple.Boot.plist should look like:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://
www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
		<key>kernel</key>
		<string>mach_kernel</string>
		<key>Kernel Flags</key>
		<string></string>
		<key>Graphics Mode</key>
		<string>1280x1024x32</string>
</dict>
</plist>

Replace the 1280x1024 with whatever res you want. However, I tried to do 1440x900 and it would only go up to 1152x864. I'll have to look into that. That "string yes string" line is only Tiger. I'll update the article :)

Anyone who wants rapidshare links, PM rnr. He has the links.

marvo8,

Its not as fast as native, but its usably fast :unsure:

scoobydu,

I plugged in a USB flash drive and it didn't work. Did you do anything to make it work?

medw1974,

Make sure that Ethernet and USB adapters are deleted and that the CD-ROM drive is NOT set to Connect at Power On. If you leave the CD-ROM on while its booting, like you said it will hang at the grey screen. if it still doesn't work, get to the F8 boot prompt and type in:

mach_kernel.toh -v

To see if it boots.

Hope this helps everyone :lol:

Still not working with Ethernet - can someone maybe screenshot their VM preferences for networkings and share them with me so I can see if I have everythign setup correct. I noticed in my settings that my bridged is set to auto and it is not listed in the DHCP, however if I add it and try set it up in OSX it tells my that the IP is in use by some other ID when i open the browser.

~pcwiz,

I have aproblem like this: when I power on the Virtual machine, VMWare reports that my CPU (630) does not support VT (Virtualize Technology?) and my CPU cannot run with the Guest OS 64bit. VMWare gives me the link for that problem: http://www.vmware.com/info?id=152.

After that, VMWare has a message: "The CPU has been disable by the guest operating system. You need to power off or reset the virtual machine at this point"

I tried command "-v" and "mach_kernel.toh" at the prompt or change the guest OS to FreeBSD but I had the same result.

What can I do for this situation?

/Sorry for my bad English!

Unfortunately none of those suggestions worked. I can report success with your all in one package though. I think my issue may have been somehow graphics related as my grey screen appeared when the blue screen should appear.

Actually I'm very surprised how quick my first boot was (4 minutes) now to go and see if I can get the internet to work.

Hi pcwiz,

I keep having problems with the display changing to what I want.

My laptop display is 1280x800, what resolution should it be for VMWare to be fill the screen in full screen mode?

Also should I select center or strech in the Preferences of VMWare under the edit menu?

HunterSinclair,

Are you doing it with my package or did you do it yourself?

com930,

Open your VMware config file and change the guest OS to guestOS=darwin and try

NSCXP2005,

Setting it to 1280x800x32 should make it work in full screen. What problems are you having?

Set it to your full resoultion of 1280x800. My monitor is 1280x1024 and after changing the com.apple.boot.plist file as directed I now run at 1280x1024 in fullscreen mode of VMWare. I'm not sure if you need to select center or stretch at all though I'm not using widescreen so may make a difference. Your file should look something like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://

www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

<plist version="1.0">

<string>mach_kernel</string>

<key>Kernel Flags</key>

<string></string>

<key>Graphics Mode</key>

<string>1280x800x32</string>

</dict>

</plist>

My problem now is that I got networking ok on first boot but after rebooting to change my resolution neither method works.

Could some one please pm me the rapishare links or another iste to download this from?

Also will this work in vmware esx?

cheers

Like ~pcwiz said, they're linked in a .txt file here.

Front Page'd. Excellent work ~pcwiz :censored2:
