pingkiller - can you explain what you did exactly.

My attempts with 6.5 and images/Donks VMX have been failures but PCWIZ's machine works great with Donk's VMX. A little slow but not too bad. However, I was trying to install an image out of curiosity more than anything.

Here's what I did:

1. Created a new machine in 6.5 based on FreeBSD 64 bit

2. Overwrote the contents of Donk's VMX onto the new machine vmx (making sure the machine names were right)

3. Booted the machine

4. Starts the install but system hangs at some point or crashes the processor.

Thanks

CJ

Nm,i wasnt paying attention. I used pcwiz image with Donks vmx. Sorry for the mixup.

Hi Donk,

I have installed iATKOS, but when I install the 10.5.2 kalyway combo update and restart it wont load up back in to iATKOS.

I have been using your vmx and WS6.5 Beta.

Any advice how to get it working?

--------------------------------------------------------

Scratch that, got it working. Will post progress report soon

danfireman - what version of VMware are you using, and did you see my post on previous page on enabling networking for VMware WS65.

pcwiz - if you are happy then I'll post here as this is a good thread with useful information, and I only have to monitor the one! I now have the foillwoign to test:

iATKOS 10.5.1 - which I updated before using Kalyway 10.5.2 updater

Kalyway 10.5.2

Leo4All 10.5.2

Using 6.0.3

Like I said earlier, iATKOS wouldn't boot one way or the other, natively or on a VM for me. Dunno why, but thats just how it is. I still haven't gotten around to test Donk's USB tip, I'm kinda busy these days. Sorry I couldn't be of more help folks. But yeah Donk, I think its nice to consolidate all this info in one place.

I've set up a page on my wiki here if you want to condense the info into one space for organizational purposes :D

NSCXP2005 - Don't install the kernel updates if I remember correctly. I will need to get back to this at the weekend as busy next 2 days at work.

pcwiz - good idea I'll look into consolidating what we've got onto your wiki. Again because of my links to VMware rather remain anonymous!! (I should stress that I do not work for them though!) Not sure why iATKOS won't boot, but maybe something to do with machine spec??

I tried kalyway 10.5.2 but hangs on boot. Just got Leo4AllV2, so will try that out. Did try V1 and it wouldn't boot.

Hi Donk,

I have iATKOS working GREAT!!! I installed the Kalyway 10.5.2 combo update, updated fine, also installed all of the software update except for Time Machine & the apple 10.5.2 update. Runs really fast.

@~pcwiz - How I got iATKOS to work was by using WS6.5 Beta and Donk's vmx.

1. I select a new VM and used custom, I selected Other and then FreeBSD 64-bit.

2. Setup the HDD, once the custom setup was made, I checked Donk's vmx to make sure all the files I had are the same names as in his vmx.

3. I installed the Ethernet Adapter, USB and mounted the iATKOS R2 iso image.

4. Started up the VM, pressed F8 to bring up the boot prompt, typed "-v cpus=1"

5. Once Installer started up, setup the HDD using Disk Ultility, then continued with the install.

6. I selected customise before installing, and selected the main iATKOS install plus the Darwin X86 Bootloader, I would also suggest that you select "Remove CPUPowerManagementDriver" and "Remove Thermal kexts" from the Patches menu.

7. Then pressed ok and then install.

It should work fine from then on.

Once installed, let it reboot. once it reboots press F2 to go into the BIOS, change the 2 VMWare drives to 32-bit enabled, change the OS from DOS to Other, change all items in the I/O config to disabled and finally go into the Boot menu and change Hard Disk to first boot item, exit and save changes.

When it boots up it will come to the boot prompt, press F8 and type "-v cpus=1", it should boot successfully into iATKOS.

The reason I suggested you install the files from the Patches menu is that if you install the main iATKOS and the Darwin Bootloader and then restart and go back into Installer and then install them, it will say at the end of installing them that it could not install them.

If you have any problems, don't hesitate to PM me or ask for help.

I hope this lets you install it.

All the best

NSCXP2005

Kalyway won't boot, which is the same behaviour I had before. Leo4All DVD actually has a problem that stops it booting on VMware. The DVD image has been written with HFS+ journalling in place, but I think I can fix it by remounting the image and using diskutil to switch the journal off.

I see that your soundcard is working (at top, the icon..)

I was wondering if the Wifi from notebooks (I have a Dell D630 my own) works... Im going to try this image , but do you think it will work? It's a normal Dell US Wifi card.

Last week I installed Mac OS X on my notebook in VMWare, but this image looks better :)

Hi mate,

The password is "pcwiz" all in lowercase. The resolution does not change. I have notice about the network problem myself, did you do a system update? if you did, remember you can not install time machine update as it messes up the kernel.

Did you install AirPort?

I've managed to change the resolution to 1600x1200x32bit

no network...

i've tried bridged, nat, all... no effect

my ism, a   isp in romania, czone, is using a application to login...

until yesterday i had a macps 10.4.10 vmware image and that one worked fine.

sound works, barelly usable 'till...

did not tried usb and btooth.

machine is an Dell Vostro 1700

Hi using Leo4All original version 1 on win xp pro. using 6.02-build 59824. Haven't been able to get networking to work. I am using bridged network and bridging to my ethernet adapter using vmware networking settings. After that I changed my mac address inside the leopard vm using

ifconfig en0 ether xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx

and then i changed my ip address to a static ip using

ifconfig en0 inet 192.168.1.4/24

After this I set up my DNS client by adding following lines in the /etc/resolv.conf file

nameserver 192.168.1.1

Now, the problem is that the DNS is not working at all. I cannot ping any hostname. However when I type

dig google.com

or

nslookup google.com

I can see a perfectly valid reply but I cannot ping google.com . I cannot connect to google.com using safari. However, if i put in the ip of google.com I can see the webpage properly loaded. Can anyone give me any idea what might be happening here ? I am stuck like so near to the solution.
