runningboy01
On a side note, anyone know if this works with VMWare Server? I know it does with workstation and fusion, but I'm wondering if maybe it'll work on Server, maybe an older version than the new beta?
sxjthefirst
Yes. I use VMWare Server 1.0.5 build 80167. It's a free download from VMWare.com and this version was what I got by default. If you are using the downloaded VMX files you might have to edit the lines in the .VMX files to look like this: config.version = "8" virtualHW.version = "3"

RinkRat
Errr... is there someway to simulate the Cmd key in a Windows keyboard? Ctrl? Alt? Windows key? Didn't work for me. How to make CTRL key act like CMD key: LINK
sxjthefirst
Thx for the link. Actually the Alt key works
thinkintosh
Not sure this will help your Ethernet problem RinkRat, but I have a similar problem getting an IP address on my non-virtual box. I use the following command: sudo ipconfig set en0 DHCP This works great for me on my work network, but at home it's not so reliable - it seems that taking the if down/up first and then executing the ipconfig gets it done. ~pcwiz
sxjthefirst, It doesn't matter that you are using unsupported wireless, VMware uses virtual devices so that does not matter.
sxjthefirst
Yes. I did it. Here's what I did with a little help from Google. In my case I had a en4 instead of a en0 interface. This for some reason doesn't work. Go to Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration and type: sudo mv NetworkInterfaces.plist ~ Enter your root password when asked. This will move your NetworkInterfaces.plist to your home dir. Restart your VM. You will have a new NetworkInterfaces.plist file if needed you can copy any other settings you had from the backup in your home. Your ifconfig should show a en0 now. Check if it has a MAC address assigned. If not try the sudo ifconfig en0 ether XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX And the ethernet how-to part from the first post. I posted this from Safari running in my OS X VM. Ta-dah!!! Edit: This worked only once. After I restarted the ethernet addr got set to again and trying to repeat the steps didn't get internet working again. duckless 2nd
sxjthefirst, It doesn't matter that you are using unsupported wireless, VMware uses virtual devices so that does not matter. Pcwiz, It does matter. When I try to use my wireless it won't even connect as soon as I switch to my LAN Ethernet it works like a champ. I know the VMware emulates everything but for some odd reason it doesn't work with my wireless. Intel Wireless 4965AGN is what I am using. And by the way thanks for the image it works great!!! duckless 2nd
If you want to 'su' in the terminal you need to first do 'sudo su -' and put in 'pcwiz' as the password and then do 'passwd root'. Once you put in the new password you don't need to do 'sudo -s' anymore you can just do 'su'.

sxjthefirst
Shan974, Just give this a try - remove the cd-rom entry from your VMWare configuration. If you are directly using the .vmx file that came with pcwiz's download edit it to remove all scsi entries too. You can add devices later. Just boot it right once. You have to use an actual MAC address from your .vmx file the Xs are just placeholders.
catimimi
Hi all, Great work ~pcwiz. Everything is working even the network with MAXXUSS driver. As I'm french I'd like to switch the installation language to French, is it possible ? I copied the "Français-pc.keylayout" from my Tiger installation in the folder /System/Library/Keyboard Layouts in order to get the french pc keyboard, and it doesn't work !! Is there a way to install this kind of keyboard ? Thanks for reply. Michel.

~pcwiz
Donk, I'll try it for sure It seems to me like all you have to do is install the kext, thanks! runningboy01, I think you have to replace XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX with the MAC address listed in the VMX config file. Have you done that? EDIT: Donk, I tried it but no go All I did was add a USB controller and install the kext and delete Extensions.mkext. Anything I'm missing here? Oh yeah and I added instructions on how to get this to work with VMware server on the main post :censored2:

Assetburned
Hi, I just want to let you know that, the image, is also working in Fusion 1.1.1 (72241). One problem is the resolution. But not directly as mentioned here before. I have only 1024x768 (real screen 1280x800). it would be nice if a 800x600 resolution could be added somehow. I thing a dynamic resizing won't work. USB not tested, and ethernet is not working. cu assetburned

sxjthefirst
I did that but no change. The idea is to edit that file till it matches your machine conf. Did you try booting with -v option? You can then take a screenshot of where it stops and post it or analyze the messages yourself. If it is a device issue it can most likely be fixed by having a minimal hadrware conf. One tip is to create a new configuration in VMWare see the settings it generates and try to mix and match. I know it's not a perfect way but unless you are an expert who knows every vmware setting that is a better way. I also had VMs running for linux and solaris so I could refer to those files too. I did but it was an alpha not the beta. Beta 6.5 has given me some problems which I am working on. I will devote the time on this new image, as many will be using it.
