NSCXP2005
Thanks CJ I will try that and report back. Have you ever had a problem with it freezing when you start it up after adding a ethernet adaptor? Donk
No problems with freezing with the ethernet adapter working. What connections do you have available on the host? NSCXP2005
I have a wired and wireless internet connection. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/96277-release-leo4vmware-by-~pcwiz/page/12/#findComment-708133 Share on other sites
Donk
NSCXP2005 - are you adding the adapter in via VMware user interface, or copying the settings from my file? Anything other than static MAC addresses and NAT does not work for me either. NSCXP2005
I add the adapter from the VMWare user interface. My Connection is dynamic. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/96277-release-leo4vmware-by-~pcwiz/page/12/#findComment-708226 Share on other sites
Donk
So you need to then edit the settings to make the connection use a static NAT address as I show in the file the post about networking. If you are adding additional adapter you will have to modify the settings. If this is the only adapter you are adding then just copy and paste the settings into the vmx file. NSCXP2005
Hi Donk, I finally got it working, I think my problem due to not changing the line Leopard.vram to FreeBSD 64-bit.vram. Changed that and it seemed to fix the problem. Thank you for your help. Just installing USB driver. Donk, is this command correct? cp -R /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins/AppleUSBEHCI.kext I get this error message usage: cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-fi | -n] [-pvX] source_file target_file cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-fi | -n] [-pvX] source_file ... target_directory Please advise? Donk
No you are missing the . from the end: cp -R /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins/AppleUSBEHCI.kext . NSCXP2005
where do I put the USB driver after I have downloaded it? Just to let you know Donk, there seems to be a problem with the following command cp -R PCGenUSBEHCI.kext /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins It keeps saying No such file or directory. In the end I had to manually copy the file to the location, then continue the rest of the commands. sxjthefirst
No dice Alice USB and Ethernet not working I think VMWare Server just won't do. Considering I will be changing laptops soon doesn't make much sense to spend too much effort on this. This is my first OSx86 VM infact the first time I ever worked on an Apple system. Thanks ~pcwiz for the work. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/96277-release-leo4vmware-by-~pcwiz/page/12/#findComment-708380 Share on other sites
Donk
NSCXP2005 - you can copy the PCGenUSBEHCI.kext file to any folder then run all the commands from that folder with the driver. sxjthefirst - Server 1 or 2 beta? I would be suprised it worked though unless Server 2 beta 2 had some of the same code as WS6.5. I'll take a look later. sxjthefirst
sxjthefirst - Server 1 or 2 beta? I would be suprised it worked though unless Server 2 beta 2 had some of the same code as WS6.5. I'll take a look later. Server 1.0.5. Here's what I encountered maybe you will find the info useful: Doesn't support darwin but I can still run Leopard with the FreeBSD-64 as the guestOS value. I got the basics mouse, keyboard, hard disk, display. Cd-rom works too. Change the hardware version as mentioned in the first post. Ethernet: Network Preferences refuses to pick up the MAC address even if I use ifconfig to assign an address. It did work a couple of times when I loaded and unloaded the kext but on restart the settings are lost. Repeating the steps didn't work. I couldn't install the Maxuss-AMDPCNET driver got an error message "Not compattible with parent" As I type this I wonder if it's the right driver why does it have "AMD" in the name. USB: My USB mouse works maybe VMWare handles that part. I connect my LaCie USB hard disk. Add the USB connector in the conf and start OS X. When I try to add the device from VM->Removable Devices->USB Devices OS X crashes and gives a "black screen of death" This happened both before and after installing the PCGenUSBEHCI_303.4.5.kext driver. I tried installing the latest VMWare Server beta. It gave me messages about not being Vista tested or something (I have XP). Then it worked like $h1t so I went back to 1.0.5 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/96277-release-leo4vmware-by-~pcwiz/page/12/#findComment-708549 Share on other sites
Donk
Just checked but Server 2 beta 2 has the same strings as the WS65 beta; e.g. guestos = "darwin-64" so probably will support the work I've done. Server 1.0.5 is somewhere between WS55 and WS60. ~pcwiz
NSCXP2005, Put the PCGenUSBEHCI.kext file from the USB driver download on your Desktop and run this command from Terminal: cp -R ~/Desktop/PCGenUSBEHCI.kext /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/96277-release-leo4vmware-by-~pcwiz/page/12/#findComment-708910 Share on other sites

Donk
Sorry I wasn't specific enough. Was writing all in a bit on a hurry. I am going back to see whether installing iATKOS and Kalyway has gotten any easier. pcwiz's image is great and I am using it, but curiosity has got the better of me. danfireman
I also am having quite a bit of difficulty getting the networking to work. What I have managed to do is if manually configure the network adapter with ifconfig ifconfig en0 ether xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx ifconfig en0 1.1.1.2/24 route add 0.0.0.0/0 1.1.1.1 This gives me network connectivity. However, DNS still fails. Even with my nameserver in /etc/resolv.conf, the machine fails to utilize it. I can use network utilities such as nslookup or dig to do dns lookups, but using a browser or ping will not resolve. What am I missing here? Using adapter in bridge mode, static address, dhcp will not pull address. Donk
danfireman - what version of VMware are you using, and did you see my post on previous page on enabling networking for VMware WS65. pcwiz - if you are happy then I'll post here as this is a good thread with useful information, and I only have to monitor the one! I now have the foillwoign to test: iATKOS 10.5.1 - which I updated before using Kalyway 10.5.2 updater Kalyway 10.5.2 Leo4All 10.5.2 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/96277-release-leo4vmware-by-~pcwiz/page/12/#findComment-710703 Share on other sites
pingkiller
Im using the leo4all image with Donk's vmx file. Everything seems to work. It booted without any problems and USB worked out of the box. I had to run a config wizard to get eth working, but then it worked flawlessly. Only problem: it's really really slow. So slow there's like a 1 sec delay when typing in stuff. I use workstation 6.5. I already renamed the exe to disable the debug mode(i think). Anything else i can do do speed things up? Or is this the same performance you guys are getting?
