yonyz
I see no problem with the GParted LIVE CD software. It worked fine when I had to set XP or iATKOS partition as active, and now it works too, but it has nothing to do with the hal.dll problem. Can someone please PM me the Kalyway kernels package 10.5.2? I can't find it on Rapidshare, TPB or ISOHUNT. yonyz
I tried installing Kalyway with EFI bootloader GUID< and I got a "b0 error" when trying to boot into Leopard or XP. I deleted again the Leopard partition and typed "fixmbr" at XP CD's Recovery Console. I think I know what to do, I just need to wait for tomorrow so I can get a PS2 to USB adpater, and hopefully it will all work out. yonyz
Yea, I do. Tomorrow I will search for a PS2 to USB adapter in the local stores, and I'll install Leopard, again, with MBR bootloader. But I am not sure how to fix my XP installation after installing Leopard, because it just won't boot, even when it's partition is the active one. There's a bootfix instructions in the dual-boot guide I'm using, but it should fix the Leopard boot, not XP's. Any suggestions as for "how to install Leopard without screwing your XP installation"? i*C
Any suggestions as for "how to install Leopard without screwing your XP installation"? here are couple of links, hopefully it will bring some help http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=83689 Part 1.)Okay, simple dual boot with XP and Leopard on the same or different hard drives. 1. If it is the same hard drive, Use your favorite disk management tool and create 2 partition for XP and Leopard... Making the leopard partition Fat32. Make sure XP is set Active. 2. If they are different hard drives, make sure the XP drive is set to boot in the Bios (we will be changing it back to the leopard drive after install) 3. Put the XP disk in and Install (its important that XP is installed first). 4. Once XP is done installing, Set Leopard active, or if it is on a different hard drive, change that drive to boot in the Bios. 5. Install OS X using the Rest of this Install guide for direction. Reboot and you will have a Boot loader with a countdown. Press any key to get an option between the 2 drives/partitions. *NOTE: XP Requires additional drivers to run AHCI. You must install AHCI with these drivers. Find Matrix storage drivers on INTEL's Site. Alternatively to get AHCI on a current install of windows, use the quick guide found later on in this this thread HERE *Thanks Cobraf. http://dailyapps.net/2008/03/hack-attack-d...-windows-vista/ i know that its for vista but maybe you will be able to get some info Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/90795-guide-installer-leopard-gigabyte-ga-p35-ds3pds3rds4-1052-efi/page/18/#findComment-706816 Share on other sites

Fruitboi
I just joined the forum.. I just wanted to say that this guide looks GREAT! I am getting ready to purchase a system to build. I own a MacBook Pro and I absolutely love it. I need a server box, and I don't have the cash or the need for a Mac Pro. I've build several systems on my own, so why not? I can clearly see the Gigabyte board models covered in this thread, and it looks like the new "EP" versions are just fine. But there are several more models that might be a little less expensive, or with better specs. ie.. The GIGABYTE GA-EP35C-DS3R What is the "C" for? Is this board compatible? Looks like it's got 6 RAM slots instead of 4. For $7 more than the non-"C" version..?? Is the only difference in the DS3P Firewire? That is all I can see? Is the highly rated, popular and less expensive GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L not compatible? I am guessing not because it was not in the list. I am leaning towards the GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3R unless the DS3L might be compatible. I will probably use the SATA ports! Thanks so much for your support! ej25power
^^ The DS3L just has different audio hardware afaik. I don't know about the EP35C-DS3R though. If it is, it would be nice to plan ahead for technology with the DDR3 RAM compatibility. I got the DS3P just so I could have the firewire port. Aaron First of all, welcome to this forum all mobos you have mentioned including DS3L sharing the same intel chipsets... If you look into specs on newegg for axample on all of those you will notice that there is little difference between, main thing is that they all have same chipset... they all should work i believe... please correct me if i am wrong, but most likely (99%) they all should work ok... yonyz
the "C" means that you have 2 RAM slots for DDR3. The other 4 RAM slots do not support DDR3. macciti, thanks for the links and explanation. I found my real problem, and Leopard has nothing to do with it: Every time I create a new partition on my HDD, no matter if it's NTFS, FAT/32 or HFS/+, I will get the "hal.dll" file missing error, even if I do nothing with the new partition. I know that the problem is that the boot.ini file is configured incorrectly after creating a new partition, and I can use a software called "CHKBTINI" and boot it to fix the boot.ini file, but I don't know how I should burn that software. It says to burn it on a "DOS boot disk"- what the hell is that means? Update: I've just checked the local stores, and it seems that a USB to PS2, which can be used to connect both a PS2 keyboard and mouse, costs almost like my current Logitech keyboard, so obviously I'm not gonna but it. Is there absolutely no way to make a PS2 keyboard to work with Kalyway? Fruitboi
yonyz, I'm no expert here, but I did READ the instructions from this forum. I read that you must have USB keyboard to do the install, but there is a PS/2 patch you can install (linked on the very first page) that will allow you to use your PS/2 keyboard once that patch is installed. So, why not borrow someone's USB keyboard, or else spend $5 on a new one at newegg? Roarsaur
Roarsaur, Probably not, at least for now. It doesn't make too much sense to ruin a perfectly good install because there is a new DVD, other than the 9.2.2 kernel the final product with using the 10.5.2 DVD or the 10.5.1 DVD + Combo Update is essentially the same, although the 10.5.2 DVD is more convenient.\ I saw that the new dvd has these patches as well, would 10.5.1 + combo have these? If not, can these be done with 10.5.1 + combo after? What would be different in the installation process if you use 10.5.2? yonyz
Hi Aaron, The patch is used if you don't want to unplug and re-plug your keyboard every time you use Leopard, but that's not my problem. I simply can't use my PS2 keyboard with the Kalyway install, no matter what I do. Thanks for trying, though. syrian_gamer
@~pcwiz Hey great guide, i have checked it out and it looks great, i will try to instal os x later tonight. However i noticed that you could probably add the following for the noobs If you do not set the SATA mode to native, mine was still in legacy. It caused me to see my SATA drives as 128gb. (I have one as 320 and another as 500) I dont know the full details of this problem, but if anybody is getting this problem just try and change it to native mode. ~pcwiz
yonyz, Why not just buy a USB keyboard? You could pick one up for like $10 or you could borrow one from a friend, because you only need a USB KB for installation, after install once you install the PS/2 fix in my installer your PS/2 keyboard will work. macciti and others, The difference with the DS3L is that the DS3L has less I/O ports than the rest of the mobos, no FireWire, etc. and it has a slightly different SATA controller (ICH9 rather than the ICH9R found in the DS3R and above). Also it has ALC888 audio rather than the ALC889A audio that comes with the more expensive DS3R and above. The P35C like yonyz said supports DDR3 RAM but otherwise its the same. syrian_gamer, Sorry I didn't add that, see, I always install and use OS X from an external hard drive so none of those SATA problems would apply to me. I did the best I could in covering the problems but you have to experiment to learn, and thats not always a bad thing Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/90795-guide-installer-leopard-gigabyte-ga-p35-ds3pds3rds4-1052-efi/page/18/#findComment-707622 Share on other sites
