Hey man, chill out. I was on these board going through it and read EVERYTHING in your initial posts(BOTH).

I spent hours trying to get this to work on my own, dang I am sorry.

Didn't I mention I wasn't using Sata drives? Also I have plenty experience in burning DVD-Rs... I didn't burn more than 4x.

I followed all the damn directions down to the most miniscule point and I'M STILL GETTING THESE ERRORS! Do you understand? I Automatically ruled out the Sata issue with this software because I"M NOT USING THOSE THINGS! NO SATA! I DO NOT HAVE THEM IN MY SYSTEM!

As for my media, as I said I DID burn it at 4X! But thanks, now that you mention it, maybe I got unlucky with the burning? as for media type, I am using a Maxell DVD-R disc. IS that a bad media type? It doesn't go into detail what exact brands are bad or good. My impression is that they were just fine for this kinda thing. They work great for my PS2 backups.

Honestly though, I never PMed you directly either or was I asking you DIRECTLY. If you didn't want to answer then you didn't have to. I come on here hoping for some friendly advice but instead I got some A$$hole response. "I Hate you" "You are an idiot" "Go away"

then accusing me of not even trying to work it out myself.

Honestly, if it's my mistake, and it turns out the burning of my disc was bad, then I still don't think you have the right to talk down to people like that.

If you had read my posts and thought about it, then maybe you could have at least suggested that I re-burn the disc. I thought I made it quite clear that I wasn't using SATA, whatever, my mistake I guess...

In any case, I think I deserve an apology from you.

... if you don't wanna then all I can say is :( YOU

Edit: OH, just tried re burning it and MAKING SURE AGAIN to do it at 4x speed. SAME :censored2: ISSUE! NO :censored2: difference! GOD DAMN YOU JUST PISSED ME OFF SO BADLY!

Thanks for all your genius insight and helpful advice. Think I'll just download and try the KAlaway version instead, thanks.

P.S: Learn some :censored2: grammer :censored2:.

hate people like you... you just jump on board, didnt bother reading post#2 at all... and straight to last page and post problems... sam read write error has been explained million times, it is either dvd burned more than 4x speed, or damaged media, or most likely you are using sata dvd which is not fully compatible yet!...

bugger off if you are not gonna read any $hit around... dont like people who just jump on the bus and start posting on the last page b4 reading a single line of information...

@lazer451: u noob stupid, how many times do i have to write here not to PM me personal problems in fact your question of on board nforce lan has been answered right in the post#2... learn to read or bugger off...

YOU NEW GUYS WHO JUST DOWNLOAD SOME $HIT AND JUMP ON BOARD, PLS DAMN LEARN TO READ BEFORE POSTING ANY $HIT!!!!! HOW DUMBER PEOPLE CAN GET???

IT LOOKS LIKE I M GONNA EDIT POST#1 ABIT TO NOTE SOME MESSAGES SO PEOPLE WHO ARE SO STUPID CANNOT BYPASS BUT I M AFRAID PEOPLE STILL BYPASS... DONT READ AND PM THEIR $HITTY PERSONAL PROBLEMS AGAIN AND AGAIN... JEEEZZZZ

@asgiov: I didn't call u idiot. Read my reply carefully! It is another member! "@lazer451" check the name!

But u didn't read enough either... How I know it is my instict from ur missing problem description and info! If u did read the first two posts u d understand how to report problem! I don't owe u an apology for hating people like u who doesn't read carefully proparly Although said 1000000times to read carefully!!!

Come back after u read the first two posts properly... To report ur problem with correct info n details else bugger off... Bcos I know that u ll face other problems like everyone else did b4 but w/o reading u ll jump to questions...

Also good luck with Kalyway as well, most likely u will face the same sam errors since they are using the same drivers (i didnt check the nforce ata driver for the boot but most likely you may have the same results with sam errors)

@Mysticus

You say in post #1 that 4 sticks of RAM it´s incompatible to 64 bit system in nForce chipsets but it could use maxmem to use 3072 and it will work fine.

My doubt is... could I use 3 sticks or it will give me incompatibility issues still??

If yes, I´ll be able to run my system with 3 gb instead (I have stick stopped here) of 2 like I´m running now.

Sorry if my question is a little bit stupid. :D

you can use 3 gb as well, but if you use 3 sticks instead of 2, you will run in single mode (333 not 667, 400 not 800, etc etc...), instead of dual modes therefore, you will face performance degradation... if you know what i mean... people with 2 gb sticks, have no choice but use single mode, or 2gb stick in one and another 1gb in other, still 3gb but dual channel mode :P and no need to use maxmem 3072... physical solution is better than maxmem solution in case u forget it later...

Thnx man.

I run my system with 2Gb of ram and it runs smooth. So, don´t need to run it with 3 Gb.

Today I made a test using 3 sticks and when initializing the system it got kernel panic. Don´t know why, but system display a message saying about 64 bit mode that when I use 2 sticks only this messages doesn´t show.

Tomorrow I´ll do the test again and I´ll take a shot to post it here for you to see.

Hello,

I am trying to install Leopard, I keep getting the "still waiting for root device" error.

I have tried Leo4allv3 as well as Kalway 10.5.2.

I then tried injecting "AppleNForceATA.kext" from MeDEvil, Jan 100 '08 version. I re-burned the iso and booted again - same error.

I have read the guides and wiki thouroughly, but may have missed something important. If anyone can offer me some assistance or even point me in the right direction, I'd very much appreciate it!

Best,

Joe

you have to add your device id to to appropriate section (pata or sata depending on where your hdd is connected on mobo) of the nforce ata driver... it looks like your device id is not present in the nforce ata... if you could tell me what the device id in your system, i would be able to add it and upload the file for u...

check windows/device manager/ide controller/ details/ hardware ids... (all the ids that are present there needs to be told...)

Hi

so i posted about some trouble installing leopard, well trying to boot into the disc

haxi kindly directed me to ask this question that he tried to help out *thanks! :)

So ive tried to install leopard os x86 different versions

still no luck

some reason it still ends up at the nfs_boot Kernel panic even though it finds the hard drive boot disk

i tried a sata cd drive and ide and still no difference and i have no i have no IDE drive

Oh yes im running on a Striker Extreme with the 680i NForce *ugh*

ive got the most success with kalyway 10.5.2 leopard disc but still same nfs_boot panic

it cant seem to boot the hard drive, ive tried the USB drive too

ah forgot to say ive tried -v cpus=1 -legacy

only one that helps is rd=disk0

any help would be good

thanks you!! :D

&

thanks haxi, ive done it carefully and still gets stuck on " NFS_BOOT: " error

i even tried it through my FW iPod and USB Drive

the driver reconises "Found boot device" But for some reason it goes to network boot

ive tried it on VMware and gives the same error

thanks

Hi Mysticus,

Just to give you some more background, following my posting to applemoto

I presume you have checked all BIOS settings to enable SATA and IDE properly.......perhaps your particular SATA HDD device ID is not in the nforceata driver.....as some have reported the same problem with different systems using Leo4Allv3 and with iATKOSv4 but had no problem with kalyway 10.5.1 and 10.5.2.....I would refer the question to MYsticus C* to see if he has ever come across it before..... ;)

applemoto has just done so......my understanding is that he/she gets the same error using a SATA DVDRW and a PATA DVDRW.....which I guess implies a SATA HDD issue vs. OS X installer DVD issue..... :D

"nfs_boot= networking is not initialized" and hdd initializtion showing disk1s2 had problem... meaning on your hdd/network there maybe errors

the error on the screen showing network error... or but also sayin about hdd initialization as well in following line... which suggests that you may have some improper formating on your hdd? but to eliminate all possibilities,

did you do check:

bios settings? (additionaly disable the on board lan to see if it effects anything...if possible get one of the suggested lan/wifi-in post#2- wifi/lan?

md5 of iso?

burned dvd at 4x or lower speed?

if you have nothign to loose on your hdd, completely wipe it... and try again but first disable on board lan!

hello,

i have installed suggessfull leopard ;) (iAtkos v1.0i r3).

After the Installation is was booting in the system - takes long - but it works :)

Now i have rebooted the system without the dvd.

In the BIOS - first boot device - "hard disk" --> Should be right ?!

Ok, just reboot the system... This Messages appears:

Boot from CD:

DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

Is there any trick to boot in a working os x ?

Try reinstalling just the Darwin EFI bootloader by booting from the iATKOS DVD again and choosing ONLY the Darwin EFI bootloader - NOTHING ELSE!.....follow steps below:

0. When the DVD Darwin Bootloader appears, press F8 quickly and at the "boot:" prompt, type (without quotes) "cpus=1 maxmem=2048 -v" and press Enter.

1. When the iATKOS DVD Installer is running, "Click the button to continue...", then click on "Continue" in the Welcome window, followed by "Agree" in the next opo-up window, and in the Select a Destination window, select the volume you have just cloned OS X onto and press "Continue".

2. In the Install Summary window, press "Customize" and in the Package Name pop-up window, select ONLY Darwin Bootloader - NOTHING ELSE! and press "Done" to return to the Install Summary window, press "Install".

3. Ignore the "Install Failed" message window that will appear after the install has completed, and just click "Restart".

4. When all processes are killed and DVD drive activity stops and the re-boot "beep" sounds, remove the DVD and boot from the Internal HDD by pressing F8 at boot-up to bring up the PC BIOS "Boot Menu", then selecting the Internal HDD and pressing Enter.

5. When the Darwin Bootloader appears, press any key quickly and at the "boot:" prompt, type (without quotes) "-v" and press Enter.

Report back on what happens..... :hysterical:

Looking at your screen output.....it shows "Verifying DMI Pool Data" and "Boot from CD"..........this suggests to me that you either have a corrupted bootloader and/or OS X system installed on the hard drive.....

BTW did you partition your hard drive volume as GUID (GPT) or as Master Boot Record (MBR)....?

Also in your BIOS, have you set

Execute Disable Bit [Enabled]

ACPI APIC Support [Enabled]

ACPI Suspend Mode [s3] or [s1] or [s1 and S3]

Boot from the OS X Installer DVD and use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions on the OS X volume on the hard drive.....then try to reboot from the OS X volume on the hard drive..... and report back....

UPDATE - @Reniro got it sorted with help from MacAndor in the nForce SATA Controller thread....

@Reniro

OK....

Try to turn the HDD S.M.A.R.T. option off in the BIOS. When I had it on I got the same message at DVD boot. [My emphasis - very useful point to check in BIOS!] If you didn't reinstall then give it a try. And sorry but could you give me a little bit specific info about your computer....

Boot flag for DVD (Do not use it for OS):

nforce_core -x -v cpus=1 platform=X86PC

If you get the os installed, then use the -x, -v bootflag for it.

And don't forget to use the iAtkos v4i Installer :)

And the DVD must be master, and the HD slave!!!

And make sure to set the cable and the jumpers correctly!!!

Thanks for helping MacAndor!

@haxi

yes ! now it works great :)

But i havent found a HDD S.M.A.R.T --> maybe the HDD is too old :)

Hmm, now how to get the working system on my other HDD with Windows on it or maybe better -

buying a new HDD for Mac OS X.

And a PCI-Wifi-Card... which one would be the best for my system ? ;)

Edit: after searching my mistake.... i´m sure that i have choose the GUI-Partition.

Erase and choose the Master Boot-Option and it works :)

@haxi

So what do you think the main problem with your system was.....IDE slave versus master or what? Tell us if you can, as it may help others with the same issue.....

+ Linksys WUSB54GC (reported OK) there are official drivers for this

+ Netgear WG111V3 wireless card (My suggestion) (there are official drivers for this)

+ Apple USB to Ethernet (reported OK) works OTB

as recommended by Mysticus C*

I have a Netgear GA311 PCI card [RealTek 8169S chipset] fitted for Gigabit LAN)

If you have network problems, it could be that your on-board LAN will not work properly under OS X.....the onboard LAN on a MOBO may or may not work - it all depends on the MOBO specs.

See http://sourceforge.net/projects/realtekr1000/ for the R1000, which is an opensource driver for network controllers RTL8168, RTL8111, RTL8169, RTL8101 and some others modification for Mac OSX. It is based on Realtek's driver for Linux but is not supported by Realtek.

Also see http://www.psystar.com/realtek_r1000_driver.html

Psystar have released a modded driver based on R1000 claimed by them to enhance

the interrupt handling and link detection for these NICS: RTL8168, RTL8111, RTL8169, RTL8101.

If this is the case, get hold of a Realtek chipset based PCI Netwok Card i.e. RTL8168, RTL8111, RTL8169, RTL8101 chipset card....check card specs before buying....depending on the card used it may just work out of the box with the already installed drivers in OS X... smile.gif

Edit: after searching my mistake.... i´m sure that i have choose the GUI-Partition.

Erase and choose the Master Boot-Option and it works :)

As Mysticus C* and myself generally advise.....MBR tends to cause fewer issues than GUID (GPT) for many people..... :)

yes but i tried it with one hard drive

anyway i managed to install Leopard by using a broken laptop

using a hard drive sata enclosure to be used as a DVD drive and installed it

now typing on it

but i cant get ethernet to work and Ati Graphics card X1800XT doesnt support Quartz extreme i tried putting the vendor and device id but QE doesnt work and i dont know what to do with it :S

soo how to fix any help will be apreciated!!

anyway thanks for the help

okay, then i will buy me a new HDD

And a PCI-Wifi-Card :P

i think i will follow macandor´s tipp ... the ASUS Wifi-Card... 20 Euros inclusive Shipping :) thats great.... and also works OTB.

Can you tell me how to install leopard on the new SATA-HDD ?

Maybe clone it from my IDE... because it works just perfect.

Sound, Graphic, Keyboard, Mouse, Timemaschine...

You can try the following procedure from my blog......but using the Darwin bootloader on the iATKOS v4.0i DVD......

Part III - Clone install of either a Kalyway or iATKOS v2.0i Leopard 10.5.2 OS installed on an internal HDD

1. Boot into OS X on the internal HDD, and on Darwin boot loader appearance, press any key quickly and at the "boot:" prompt, type "cpus=1 maxmem=2048 -v" (without quotes).

2. When OS X is up and running, if you do not already have Carbon Copy Cloner 3.1.1 installed, then download it from http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html

and install it in Applications....Carbon Copy Cloner 3.1.1 will attempt a block-level clone if the target volume is at least as large as the source volume but if not a file-level copy will occur.....

3. Run Carbon Copy Cloner 3.1.1 with "Backup everything" selected under Cloning options: and check the "Erase the target volume" box, then having selected the Source Disk (this can be either a Kalyway Leopard 10.5.2 install or an iATKOS v2.0i Leopard 10.5.2 install) and the Target Disk, press "Clone"....When the cloning operation has completed, click Ok and close Carbon Copy Cloner 3.1.1.

4. Place the iATKOS v2.0i in the DVDRW drive and boot it by pressing F8 at boot-up to bring up the "Boot Menu", then selecting the DVDRW Drive and pressing Enter.

If you do not possess the iATKOS v2.0i DVD, you can use the iATKOS v1.0ir3 regular version with MD5

MD5 iAtkos 1.0i R3 regular= 3F3D063873469A5357F392D027843C10

Downloaded via http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=87901

or, the iATKOS v1.0i r2 - EqUaTe1 patched DVD downloaded from Internet space..... :)

When using iATKOS v1.0i R3 regular or iATKOS v1.0i r2 - EqUaTe1, in Step 7. below, you should select ONLY the Darwin EFI bootloader - NOTHING ELSE!

5. When the Darwin Bootloader appears, press F8 quickly and at the "boot:" prompt, type (without quotes) "cpus=1 maxmem=2048 -v" and press Enter.

6. When the iATKOS 2.01 DVD Installer is running, "Click the button to continue...", then click on "Continue" in the Welcome window, followed by "Agree" in the next opo-up window, and in the Select a Destination window, select the volume you have just cloned OS X onto and press "Continue".

7. In the Install Summary window, press "Customize" and in the Package Name pop-up window, select ONLY Darwin Bootloader - NOTHING ELSE! and press "Done" to return to the Install Summary window, press "Install".

8. Ignore the "Install Failed" message window that will appear after the install has completed, and just click "Restart".

9. When all processes are killed and DVD drive activity stops and the re-boot "beep" sounds, remove the DVD and boot from the Internal HDD or from the External USB 2.0 / eSATA HDD by pressing F8 at boot-up to bring up the "Boot Menu", then selecting the Internal HDD or External HDD (which will be shown as either a SATA drive or USB drive depending on how it has been connected to the PC) and pressing Enter.

10. When the Darwin Bootloader appears, press any key quickly and at the "boot:" prompt, type (without quotes) "-v" and press Enter.

11. When the cloned OS X system is booted up and running, then Eject the iATKOS Install DVD, open Disk utility and Repair Permissions, and enjoy another success.... :)

wow, great tipp !

thank you :)

That seems to be "easy" - but also on a S-ATA HDD ?

Do i need some Drivers for the SATA ?

Because my working OS X is von a IDE-HDD :)

Obviously you need to set up your BIOS to recognise the SATA HDD from OS X....Depending on your BIOS options.......

Configure SATA as "AHCI" or Serial-ATA Configuration [Enabled]

JMicron SATA / PATA Controller [Disabled].....if JMicron present.....unless it works for you [Enabled].....but JMicron is known to cause problems for some....but JMicron patches for OS X Install DVDs are now appearing......

JMicron Controller Mode [AHCI]....if present.....

From this thread......

A-) EXECUTE DISABLE BIT: ENABLED B-) USB KEYBOARD/MOUSE: ENABLED C-) ACPI MODE: S3 OR S1 OR BOTH D-) IF YOU HAVE AHCI SETTING FOR YOUR SATA/IDE PORTS: ENABLE AHCI FOR THOSE PORTS...
