like at http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...=54678&st=0 :

================ BASIC PROCEDURE ================

BACKUP (kernel and Extensions):

sudo cp -R /System/Library/Extensions /System/Library/Extensions.10.4.9

sudo cp /mach_kernel /mach_kernel.jun07

RUN UPGRADE: (I personnaly don t install the 10.4.10 Graphcis)

do not reboot when prompted

cp the mach_amd or intel in /mach_kernel

chown root:wheel /mach_kernel

chmod 644 /mach_kernel

cp -R dsmos.kext /System/Library/Extensions

then reboot....

If problem look at http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...=54678&st=0

mhmh i didn't replace the kernel after the update.. i had no problem except the nvidia installer :S

maybe that's the reason?

cp -R dsmos.kext /System/Library/Extensions

6 - From your /1049 folder, recover AppleHDA.kext, Intel950.kext,

AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext

Not sure if copying Intel950.kext is really necessary, I am using the 10.4.10 kext here without any problems.

Recovering the old AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext is *very* important however before rebooting.

ok im back to a full working 10.4.9 and i think ill wait till a better step by step comes out. i had 10.4.10 working with older system.kext and kernel and it didnt work right. usb hd wouldnt mount and i had to do a hack to even get dmg to mount. either that or the iphone requires the new kernel to be detected.

Thanks, this installer works GREAT :poster_oops: Applied the update today on my machine (specs below) and then installed the GMA950 from the Jas 10.4.8 installer, and fixed up the audio using Taruga's audio patch.

Does not work for me (desktop in sig). Ran the update, copied the kernel and dsmos in, set permissions. Could only boot in safe mode after that. I would not see anything but a blue screen where the login window should have been. Was not a problem with loginwindow.app though cause as I said could enter safe mode. Tried re-installing Natit, same result. Tried replacing with 10.4.9 kexts, same result. Had to restore my kernel then had to restore all my 8.9.1 kexts

Hello all,

For those who have successfully updated to 10.4.10....

Is there any real improvements or noticable differences between 10.4.8 and 10.4.10 (Other then the rush of getting it to work)?

yes, my xbench down to 109, but in less words....it's the same performance than the 10.4.8.

To get one thing clear, this is a delta update, wich mean you cannot uprgrade from anything but from 10.4.9 to 10.4.10. So ofcourse it will fail if you try to upgrade from 10.4.8 or something.

That's a funny thing to hear, because that's exactly what I did - I went straight from 10.4.8 to 10.4.10 without any problems using the update. Only had to fix the Framebuffer-kext.

My boot went too slow after habging on such messages:

lauchd:com.apple.nibindd: exited abnormally, Bad system call

lauchd:com.apple.nibindd: responding too quickly! throttling

lauchd:com.apple.nibindd: too many failures in seccession

lauchd:com.apple.nibindd: Server 175 in bootstrap 1103 uid 0: "/usr/sbin/lookupd"[104]: exited abnormally: Hangup;

lauchd:com.apple.nibindd: Server 0 in bootststrap 1103 uid 0: "/usr/sbin/lookupd"[200]: exited ubnormally: bad system call

And so on with other Servers. Also thre were messages about LoginWindow.app, also hanging. Help please.

JasT

First: please put your SystemSpecs to your Signature

I had the same problem. I fixed it with a new loginwindow (for AMD I think), wich you get at the end of this post. (Tx to Macwolf Macwolfs Post). Unzip it to your desktop.

1 - Bootoption -s (SingleUserMode)

2 - mount -uw /

3 - cd /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/MacOS/

4 - mv loginwindow loginwindow_old

5 - cp /Users/USERNAME/Desktop/loginwindow /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/MacOS/

6 - chown -R root:wheel loginwindow

7 - chmod -R 755 loginwindow

9 - reboot

(Thx to a1k0n)

To fix the "lauchd:com.apple.nibindd:" issue, boot from the uphuck 1.3 and install only the AppleACPIPlattform package. This should help. Don't forget to fix permissions.

10.4.10 runs perfect for me, about this Mac works (with the new old loginwindow)

MfG, Rakete

Edit: fixed some minor mistakes... sry^^

I haven't tried replacing the kernel or adding the extention yet but the upgrade works pretty well. I lost sound, but I got that back. I also reinstalled the loginwindow from the 10.8 disk. It worked fine. I am still trying to get core imaging on my gma900. I installed the optional graphics kext, which did nothing and had no info about what they are for. So, I tried installin the 10.8 gma900 by JAS. This let me pick a good resolution but says that 915 kext fails to load, seek newer version from vendor, so still no core support. Any know what I need to do?

Okay, I need a bit of help! And advice!

I have never had success updating an OS, ever. It always ended up with me having to reinstall the OS then all the programs again, normally getting a new DVD that is out there.

So, that being said, I did find the 10410 update installer and I need to know a few things....

1) I presently have core/CI and DUAL DISPLAY running fine on 10.4.8

2) I read here that some need a new DVD that is out there with this UPDATE? Is that true?

3) Can I just use this update and will it hose my system? In the past, any installers I have tried, (10.4.6 to 10.4.8 for example) always ended with me having to reinstall the whole OS by finding the latest DVD out there.

Thanks!

Not sure if copying Intel950.kext is really necessary, I am using the 10.4.10 kext here without any problems.

OK thanks, I wasn't sure about that one so never tried it with the 10.4.10 version. It seems that both would work and that this step is therefore unnecessary.
