Swad
Hot on the heels of a 10.4.1 “update” which pulled parts from an uncracked 10.4.3 OSx86 to improve the already cracked version, we’ve received confirmed reports that the full OS X 10.4.3 installation DVD has been leaked via bittorrent. Although the TPM restrictions are still protecting the OS as of this writing, the word on the street is that hackers have already begun dissecting Apple’s new security measures. We are told that the TPM protections in 10.4.3 are significantly stronger, indicating that Apple has used the previous two releases to refine their mechanism for hardware control. The most interesting aspect of this leak is that it reveals that OSx86 has finally caught up with its PowerPC cousin – the versions are essentially the same, with the same features, same abilities, etc. This marks the first time that Apple has released a copy of the OS for the Developer Transition Kits which is identical to the PPC version. This speaks to Apple’s shift in engineering resources and emphasis to its Intel version. It appears that OSx86 has grown up rather quickly. Oh... and... don't steal. grabberslasher
lol? "catches up"? Intel 10.4.3 has been out for a couple of weeks now. It is in no way or shape the "same" as the PPC version. And the OS X intel versions weren't feature-identical to the PPC ones because they aren't the same branch at all. Intel OS X 10.4.1 and 2 was on the 8B branch, while PPC 10.4.2 was on the 8C branch. There's no point in trying to compare them. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/4072-full-1043-dvd-leaked/#findComment-26245 Share on other sites

So, there very well may be a point to comparing them, as they could and should be moving closer together. Thus providing a gauge as to the x86 public release time. To the extent that you are correct in stating the PPC and x86 versions are completely different, I think that it is unlikely we will see and x86 Macs publically released at MWSF in January. Swad
Granted there are still important differences, the main operating system features (from my understanding, having only read the changelog) are what have been brought up to speed (with Quicktime updates, Safari fixes, etc). To say that there is "no point in comparing them" is, I think, I huge overstatement. They may have their differences, but they're the same where it counts. Munky^
Of course maybe our good friend Maxxuss will step in and create some innovative patches to widen the spectrum of hardware compatability, ... (Of course, this is all speculation for those who are wondering. Working on a crack is warez and not endorsed by these forums. This is just a theoretical statement.) Maxxuss is a good friend, but yet you don't endorse what he's doing? Not sure I understand... Choose your words. TheoCryst
so the version we can get from piratebay is a real original 10.4.3 x86 DVD?And there is still no patch for it to run on PC? Yep! It'll be patched eventually though. *The following statement is a lie. I really mean the exact opposite of what I'm about to say. Stealing is wrong!!!* I'd strongly suggest grabbing it while you can, assuming you can spare the hard disk space. It WILL be cracked, though its anyone's guess just how long it will take, or how well it will work once it is cracked, or what machine specs you'll need. *End lie* Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/4072-full-1043-dvd-leaked/#findComment-26447 Share on other sites

EtherealRemnant
Personally, I don't think it will be cracked in a reasonable timeframe. Apple submitted a request for a patent. Its interesting indeed. Basically, unless you can somehow figure out what code is being modified, how, and when, its not going to work. First, we'd have to isolate the file(s) that are undergoing this change (my theory says most of them have this protection) and then we'd have to figure out how to stop the change, THEN we'd have to place the new files on the DVD and cross our fingers that it works. I'm not really that worried anymore. Once the transition begins, I'll buy one ASAP. OS X has more than proved its worth and value in my mind and I'm all for supporting Apple now. Now that's not to say I wouldn't like to try 10.4.3 but with this new method, by the time its installable, I would bet that Apple would have the next version out with even stronger protection. suleiman
hmmm...yeah I'm feeling that too Ethereal. No clue how long it would take to crack this OS, but personally I'm happy using 10.4.1 on this computer for now, at least until Apple comes out with an x86 laptop. The main virtue of switching to the x86 platform for me is that it likely means being able to run windows and OS X side by side. I rarely boot into windows anymore, in fact I haven't needed to in months. But it's nice to know that should the off chance come up where I need to get back in the OS that stopped it all, I could if I needed to. Just my two cents, peace. EtherealRemnant
Yeah, totally agreed. I've tried playing with a few things but I really don't have experience with OS X and plus, I'm not SSE3. If I had SSE3, I'd probably get a LOT further. EDIT: Just noticed that Turion chips and Palermo cores of the Sempron both support SSE3. They're not all that expensive either... I just need to see if my board supports them. EDIT again: CHECK! Semprons are fully supported by my Soltek board. An 80 dollar upgrade... compared to a 4-600 dollar one just to go to Venice 939 cores... sign me up! paulicat
As has been mentioned elsewhere, people are able to boot just as far as with the original 10.4.1 unpatched dvd, that is, to the blue screen with beachball (also can be described as the rosetta hang) I have a gut feeling that Rosetta will be our key just as it is Apples key... One thing they have implemented is that if you do not have a motherboard that allows you to enable the No-Execute Memory Protection option (aka XD) in the bios you'd be pooched as it is causing a near instant reboot before the kernel is loaded (executed?) in memory (right at the "Starting Darwin/x86" prompt. EtherealRemnant
I highly doubt the protection is just in Rosetta. But only time will tell. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/4072-full-1043-dvd-leaked/#findComment-26542 Share on other sites
