No incremental update. Maybe it's because SiP is disabled. Nightf4ll
Hard update for me lol. Don't know what happened in recent months, but I have to have 2 EFI setups to be able to update ever since 11.5. One OC EFI with FakeSMC to get past ramrod screen, and a second one with VirtualSMC to boot into the OS. Literally lost here, it worked all perfectly well beforehand and I didn't change much in OC. Yes, one of the SIP flags makes it so you don't get deltas iirc. The other cause is if the seal gets broken, and you modified the root volume. Legacy macs which need non-metal patching only get the big 12GB updates because of that last reason. 1 2 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/348888-release-macos-big-sur-116/#findComment-2766347 Share on other sites

mnfesq
Does anyone have a link to download the combo update? For some reason, I stopped getting updates for Big Sur and have had to do recent updates by going into Recovery mode and reinstalling Big Sur from there. When it reinstalls, it installs the update. But that's not working for 11.6. It wants to install 11.5.2. BTW, this update is pretty important to stop the "no click" spyware. More here: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/apple-fixes-security-bug-could-200714680.html Thanks. Avery B
Just now, Hervé said: Apple stopped issuing combo updates, didn't they? oops, completely missed that. Yeah, think it's just deltas now. They still shouldn't need to go into recovery though and completely reinstall. Okay, so which csr-active-config do you recommend for macOS Big Sur so that SIP is disabled but incremental updates work, since 67080000 doesn't seem to enable ncremental updates. You may use any value you want as long as you keep AppleInternal disabled (which it is by default). The value that fully disables SIP but sustains OS updates was also provided. https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/348330-macos-big-sur-115-final-version-released/?do=findComment&comment=2764187 https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/346548-release-macos-big-sur-112-1121-1122-1123/?do=findComment&comment=2753215 https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/338516-opencore-discussion/?do=findComment&comment=2764186 @Hervé I appreciate the time and effort you have put into explaining SIP settings in order to get updates and my settings are in accord with what you suggest. Still, no success. I also tried to disable SecureBootModel and return it to default. That did nothing as well. That's the whole point. While I did not know that combo updates were discontinued, I am looking for a solution that will allow this security update because I have been getting a lot of text messages recently purportedly from AT&T which I know are bogus but I am concerned about the no-click exploit. mnfesq
@Hervé Thank you. This is the first Big Sur update that did not show up because I was enrolled in the developer seed and I am still getting Safari beta updates so I will revert back to developer seed once 11.6 installs. 3 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/348888-release-macos-big-sur-116/#findComment-2766429 Share on other sites
XanthraX
Finally, I could do the update, after I enabled the SIP. csr-active-config <00000000>. I had it <F00F0000>. After the update, I changed it to <67080000> and it appears to offer software updates in the future. How to check if you will get next SU? Go in System Preferences -> Software Update -> Advanced. If you see a red bullet there, something is wrong with the SIP and you have Software Update offer blocked. The update went smooth. 1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/348888-release-macos-big-sur-116/#findComment-2766462 Share on other sites
