Hey AG,

successfully installed Big Sur Public beta from USB disk onto separate SSD partition using the OC 0.60 EFI that you have generated for z390 Pro - many thanks.

The same OC can see my Catalina partion but won't boot it.

It complains of not being able to load more recent kext than those pre-linked.  It this because I havent cleared my caches?

Big Sur booting and running faster on this machine.

Hi,

yeah probably. If it works for Big Sur and not for your Catalina boot then the problem is within Catalina and not the EFI, Clear your cache and NVRam ETC ETC

Australia Rocks, I love that place. Your all Awesome:thumbsup_anim:

Hello all!

I was long time away, so I'm still at 10.15 (19A602)

Tried to read all  the older post, but please be nice with me :)

I want to upgrade to latest 10.15.6

What is the safer way to do it?

Can I start updating kexts and clover (while I'm still on 10.15) ?

Whats the best and safer way to update clover?

I'm still on BIOS F10

Should I update bios to rev 12d ?

I'm just scared of messing things that now are working

thank you!

@gino8080 Just download the latest EFI and if you don’t want to update the bios then copy your dsdt and ssdt from your old EFI to the new one and that’s it.

Do it to a USB install key to double check it works for you first and then once your happy just move the EFI from your USB key to your EFI partition on your hard drive and then go ahead and update.

You can do a test with the EFI before you update to make sure first.

Clover will work up to the last version of Catalina but at the moment it will not work with Big Sur, only Opencore will work. so I suggest you stay with Catalina as BS is still Beta. For the moment and update all your kexts, If you still want to install BS, then read and familiarise your self with the requirements of Opencore whereas you will need to remove all aspects of Clover from your machine before trying BS - Fully read the Guide on this link a few times and then you can make a decision about upgrading - https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Install-Guide/.

Stop that right now. LoL

Don't be a OC preacher...I can’t stand that {censored} bro.

Each to there own and Clover works just fine and by the time BigSur goes release Clover will be fixed for it.

Hey AG, In your latest EFI, under Generic, you have SpoofVendor = False, this seems to be a change from previous and contrary to the OC Guide. Is there a reason for this?

Also which smbios is better 19,1 or 1,1? I'm running a very similar hardware to you. ie 5700XT.

Cheers

I don’t like spoofing the real system info but if you want it on then by all means set it to true.

as for what smbios to use. 1,1 is the most stable but 19,1 gives you Sidecar other then that it’s up to you.

i personally use 1,1 as I hate having my igpu enabled and don’t care less about Sidecar.

Why do you hate having you igpu enabled? Isn't enabling it transparent? I do mostly video editing. Isn't it better for me to have it enabled for H264 encoding? I'm using Radeon VII. I'm interested in the pros and cons. Maybe I read about it once in this forum but forgot.

There are some particular patches for DRM that mess up encoding in QuickTime when on iMac19,1 with iGPU enabled. Also I think that @AudioGod has a far more performant gpu than the UHD 630 so why would he need it in the first place?

For you with a Radeon VII you are pegging the GPU performance in a big way having the igpu enabled. Your chew though a render much much quicker without using QuickTime.
Your gpu is the perfect example of somebody that should be using smbios 1,1 not 19,1 TBH buddy.

Do a side by side for yourself and your see what I mean.

Also on a different flavour the igpu eats up a massive chunk of space in the nvram causing the odd boot failures, it’s no big deal but again it’s something else I don’t like.

Lastly I’m a Overclocker and love to squeeze every drop of performance I can from the CPU and in windows the GPU too and that’s something that gets effected with the igpu enabled.

Guys, any recommendations for how to clone the system drive including the EFI etc. ?

I mount my boot drive, copy the EFI to my desktop, use carbon copy cloner to clone the drive, then mount the clone and copy across the EFI folder from my desktop.

Works great for me.

Thanks Matt, just successfully cloned it using SuperDuper and a similar method to you.

Thanks for the info. I have a big issue now though. I replaced my 19,1 EFI with the 1,1, deleted boot arg, pulled battery, loaded profile, and now none of my USB3 ports work. USB2 works, but not USB3. Any help on what I can do to bring it back to life? Thanks

Huh, Let me check my 1,1 usb.kext for you.
Maybe I made a mistake when I converted it. Il let you know as soon as I’m back home and infront of my hack to check it and il send you a revised one if I did.

il get back to you ASAP bud.

Thanks for your help. I'm perplexed.

Hi all,

I bought myself new monitor (AOC 24G2U) which is connected using HDMI cable (which was included with monitor) and sometimes when I wake my hack from sleep screen has pink/purple tint.

Monitor was brand new, I don't remember but I think I had similar issue before with previous monitor.

Could you help me what might be causing problem?

Is that because I have iGPU enabled and I should disable it (I have 5700 XT)?

What you have there is a MacOS bug with your Particula monitor that you’ve brought.

heres the fix. ;)

I was just testing and plugging in different devices in the USB ports and this is what I found. When I plug USB3 hard drives into USB3 ports, they don't mount. The small portable USB3 hard drive's light comes on but doesn't mount. They all mount fine on the rear USB2 ports. Keyboard works if connected to any USB port thought. Very strange.

Im just waiting on test results from a few other users as by my eye it all looks fine.

Will send you a second Kext to test as soon as I can bud.

could very well be a flaw in the kext as I don’t have a pro board anymore so I have to do it all by eye.

Il get it sorted for you as soon as I can bro.

do you guys have any ideaa why I get no signal after systems wake up from sleep, I have to unplug HDMI and plug it again to get it working?

I am using iGPU if that makes any different,

add

igfxonln=1

in boot arguments. Of course have updated kexts (especially WhateverGreen)

Ugh, yes. I had this same problem with my old Dell monitor.

A thought on USB being wonky with the iMacPro1,1 OC 0.6.0 EFI: I happened to try that EFI because of the discussion of relative performance on this thread, and while using it, had no such problems. Then switched back to my* regular iMac19.1 EFI. After each switch, I changed iGPU enablement appropriately in UEFI, and cleared NVRAM. Note that “OpenCore” as the lead boot option in UEFI always stayed as it was, the default behavior since OC 0.5.9.

After I had followed this process and switched back to my iMac19,1 EFI, then my USB 3.1rev2 USB-C port on the back refused to mount an external drive connected to it. A restart did nothing, but a restart and another clear of the NVRAM got it to mount again upon reboot.

So maybe it’s less a USB.kext thing than NVRAM settings getting borked between EFIs, maybe with some interplay with OC setting itself as lead boot option in UEFI?

Anyway, two NVRAM clears in a row seemed to fix it for me (if, with it happening once I was back from the iMacPro1,1 EFI to the iMac19,1 EFI, was in fact related). YMMV.

*(hereafter, "my" EFI in this post refers to @AudioGod's, just with my MLB/SN/SMUUID settings, and some very minor other tweaks I've applied: SIP configuration, -v & naming the drive to my brand/model rather than Samsung Evo 970 or whatever is in the original config.plist; nothing to do with USB.)
