Oh wow, sounds like it would be silly of me to not use 1,1... I also don't use sidecar.

Thanks for all the time and effort you put into this project!!!

It’s a lot more stable and mean a lot more stable, drm works with no shiki value, the igpu is disabled in the bios freeing up a massive load of space in the nvram so you get no boot failures on start up. All gpus bar the lower end Polaris preform better.

Only real downside to 1,1 is Sidecar does not work but I personally don’t use Sidecar anyway so it’s no biggie to me on that front.

From my experience and based mostly on testing in FCPX, I have found performance to be the following: MP7,1 > iMP1,1 > iM19,1.

7,1 is the fastest and cleanest, especially when it comes to scrubbing. 1,1 is close but stutters more scrubbing. Both generate the same speed on export using x264. But both do not support Sidecar. 19,1 does but is the slowest of the bunch. And I mean noticeably slower. I run a skeleton system (don't even have SATA enabled) so YMMV. These are my own tests results. If you have a Polaris GPU you may not see this. All these tests were done using the equipment in my sig.

All true but 7,1 like 19,1 doesn’t scale the cpu properly where as 1,1 does. Also minimum lows is the worst Of the 3 under 7,1 but the only people that would effect is that tiny group of users that like to game on macOS.

Basically all 3 smbios have pros and cons and it’s down to the base user what one he prefers for there scenario. All good choices at the end of the day.

Interesting. What can I use to test this?

Edit: Oop nm, Intel Power Gadget.

Edit 2: Preliminary, but nothing jumps out as abnormal.

You can see it on your min frequency. It should be going down to 800mhz not 1.9ghz. Il update this post in abit with my cpu frequency from 1,1. I’m surprised your not seeing that when it’s jumping out on that graph (Missing states)

Dam your cpu is toasty with 37c ave on idol

Ignore my Max Freq as I'm overclocked. Compare your states using Hackintool and your see how many are missing compared to what your meant to have.

You can fix it for yourself by using CPU Friend my Friend (I'm not using anything like that though, that's just straight up from using 1,1)

It's not the biggest of deals tbh but correct is correct no?

I was asking cos your cpu is fully scaling with all the p states showing correctly.

thats the whole point of what we are debating. I’m on 1,1 aswell now as I’m sick of 19,1....:hysterical:

5 minutes ago, eSaF said:

Actually I totally agree with you especially in my case, to my limited knowledge the speed stepping is spot on, when I had it as 19.1 it was all over the place and hardly idling so for me it was definitely a good change, but I am sure initially you advised me to change it but I stuck with it because I carried on using details from when I had the GA-Z87X-OC FORCE with an i7 CPU so the moral of the story is - I should listen to you more in future.

CPU Friend can fix it for 19,1 and 7,1 but tbh it’s not the biggest of deals. No more energy is used and not dropping right down or missing some of the states is not really a problem.

Yea I hear you B but I tend to think right or wrong if the numbers are all over the place in Stepping, it aint working as should.

a lot of people when overclocking disable most the p and c states anyway that’s why I don’t consider it a biggie at all. OCD is OCD I guess lol

Seeing that you have a 9400F 19,1 was never the correct smbios for you to be using anyway. No igpu no 19,1

No I’m missing a lot.

I’d prefer not to use CPUfriend. Even the guide says SMBIOS is the optimal way to fix it and I want to stay on 7,1.

I do want a perfect system, but tbh, for a desktop I don’t care that much. It would be nice to find out why 7,1 can’t assign the right states. Same goes for 19,1 given that the iMac actually has an i9 in it (the rest are all Xeons).

It’s CPU Friend or live with it buddy, that’s it if you want to stick on 7,1 I’m afraid.

as for why, MaLD0n says it’s a bug in the programming with a 8th and 9th gen CPU.

:( Sorry Bro. I really did not mean to rain on your parade, I just thought you would prefer to know then not. Apologies from me.

Nah it's all good. I would rather know the truth than bury my head in the sand <3 Maybe I'll give 1,1 a try again. Would be nice to dump that memorykextdisabler too. 7,1 just runs soooo good. But nobody really uses it so it's hard to make improvements to it given my lack of knowledge with all this stuff.

I picked up a real Broadcom and just waiting on my PCI adapter. So I do have other things to tinker with :thumbsup_anim: I can't wait to kick that stupid Fenvi to the curb. Biggest POS that "just works"

@Tiem @eSaF I don’t think I need to tell either of you how I feel about the Fenvi cards. I think most people on here know how much I can not stand that card :hysterical:

Be warned The 2CS can be a little troublesome with Catalina and sleep and you might have to use BrcmPatchRAM to resolve it.

The CS2 with the dual antenna is the most trouble free one of the bunch.

I couldn't find one of those, but the card cost $12, so even if I can't make it work, I'm not out much. *fingers crossed*

On the USB, I just re-mapped my ports and notice Hackintool sets a different provider class and adds a new entry IOPCIPrimaryMatch.

This is my current set up:

And this is the updated kext from Hackintool:

Do you happen to know why the change in provider class? Everything is working perfectly now. Also for the 7,1, I thought powersupply was supposed to be 5100, but Hackintool sets it to 4700.

Would the following be a better replacement? {snip}

That's some URI.

No. Worse. I don't believe it's got a 100% genuine BCRM anymore than anyone selling 100% genuine PS2 memory cards. Grab the card and pull off the plate. I'd be shocked if it was legit. Moreover, that card is slow as molasses, nearly 10 years old now (from 2012 Macs).

Get yourself a real Broadcom from a real Mac. Then source a decent PCIe adapter. Stay away from already built units.
