Anyone know if Refind is compatible with Oz? I was up all night trying to boot other Os's without luck. Seems like only Capitan and OS X will load up. Ubuntu, shell, Memtest all give me black screen. Maybe it's not compatible. Thanks.

Whoa! A 331.7MB html file!
Looks like the video bios disassembler has come in to trouble with your video ROM.

Here’s a fixed HTML file from your dump if you're interested.

I'll have to add a check for this to prevent it happening again.

Sorry for OT.

STLVNUB posted he's used it at the start of this thread.

when i add the HermitCsmVideo i must in bios select CSM=Enabled?

Some times ago i enabled CSM in my Bios with the Result: Black Screen on all Ports :(

Can this happen again?

Ah.. good question and I'm not sure. Here, I cannot disable CSM on my old ASUS mobo, and even if I could I haven't a GOP VBIOS for my ATI 5770 so AFAIK I need CSMVideo.

You can either test it yourself or wait and see if someone else can chip in and give a clear answer.

Because I could never get the Hermit Shell icon on the boot menu working, and that refind has icons preset for memtest, windows and apple recovery, restart and shutdown icons, recognizes my ubuntu installs, has an icon for efi shell, and i find it a little more customizable. I mean dont get me wrong the Oz xmas boot menu is nice and have no complaints with using it. Thanks.

Because I could never get the Hermit Shell icon on the boot menu working...

Use motherboard built-in boot manager for shell then...

I doubt someone will care enough to make refind work, especial b/c is not necessary.

I remember I told you that icon form Oz theme is for built-in firmware EDK1 shell and that is HermitShell you can find in AOS X-MASS release, if you try to use it for something else it will not work...

I guess I'll use bcfg to create a direct link to hermit shell because despite including that module in my bios and getting a boot menu item created for hermit shell by oz I can't get it to run. Not a biggy. Thanks.

Explain "can't get it to run"

Post darwindumper.

Someone may figure out if is a bug if users provide detailed information.

I mean if I click the EDK2  Shell icon nothing happens. About the darwin dump we went over that last month and there was an issue

with repeat GUIDs due to a bug in Kext2FFS which was fixed. So now each module has a unique Guid but there are a couple mods I made in my  rom bios you would probably point a finger at though I don't believe they are at fault. I'll investigate this further. Thanks for taking the time to respond to my post. I'll let you know. I guess a good idea would be to delete the Hermit Shell module and reinsert it. Maybe its corrupt. I can extract the module and compare it in a hex  editor to a fresh copy. Speaking of which anyone have a recent efi Shell program to share? Thanks.

Yes I remember the "soup" you had in BIOS that is why I asked for new DarwinDumper dumps...

Investigate and when you are done let me know if you got it working or not.

The latest shell is the HermitShell from X-MASS release.

Still working on that Darwin Dump. My hermit shell is a match for your xmas release. Will remove unnecessary modules and get back to you. Coincidentally I discovered that the last Oz release I had (thanks to dual bios I could tell) the last Oz release I could load hermit shell. Anyhow no longer a mess of a gumbo soup.

Edit: Just attached fresh copy of bios rom and darwin dump..

Edit Edit: Had to disable sip to run darwin dump unencumbered. Please re-download.

Is HermitShell in ROM or on HDD anyway? I don't think Oz scans the HDD for stuff...

Its in my rom. Just can't get it to load on demand. Was studying the QUO release and they have btfrs and extfs modules. Are they necessary? Also does the order of module insertion matter?  For example a few of their filesystem modules are listed early on starting as the 7th module and hermit shell is also inserted in the upper third of the rom module list unlike in my rom all the oz files are inserted at the bottom of the 2nd volume in my rom.

Thanks

The best way to arrange your proper and totally funcional ssdt/C&P states at all is to follow posted LINK. It´s for all newer osx.

I solved my C&P states and now i have fully funcional 21 P-states from 0,8GHz-3,1GHz (switched off turbo in BIOS).

Thanks for the link.

Thought you fixed the "soup"?

Why are you loading from ESP the same kexts you added in firmware?

I mean if I click the EDK2  Shell icon nothing happens.

But if you start HermitShell(Built-In EDK Shell) from F12 menu works?

The soup is a lot lighter. Low fat..

I must have forgotten to remove them.

No HermitShell does not load even from F12. It use to work on the last release of OZ but stopped working on xmas release. I used Ozmtool to transfer the new modules over. I suspect maybe either the acpi configuration, dsdt, or defaults file is to blame.

Thank you.

Then how you ask if btrfs/extfs is needed?

Or you installed Linux on FAT32?

Stupid question. I installed Ubuntu on Ext2 or 4 partitions I created following a guide on the Refind site last year.

As it turns out if I create a manual bcfg boot entry to Ubuntu it will load. Just cant get Oz to scan for Ubuntu.

Last version of Oz could do it though.

thanks

what modules should i delete to obtain extra space in the MB's rom?

if i removed some legacy ones is my BIos going to beep?(i mean something like Csr ones)

If you bother to read what I said/look on example I uploaded, you will find the answer, all you need is to spend few minutes and compare files like I did:

post-53345-0-89211200-1453541313_thumb.png

There is no "Csr" in your BIOS, if you look on released AOS BIOS you will find more that you can delete compared with stock Gigabyte BIOS...

How do i compare Z87 BIOS to Z77 one? they will definitely have conflicts.

Where do I said to compare with Z87?

I said to compare original AOS(Gigabyte) BIOS with Hermit released one, that way you can easy see what was removed/replaced.

And anyway there isn't much diff b/w Z77/Z87 firmware, only on APTIO V there are, but again you need to look/seek for answers to know that...
