+ one for this feature - but please allow negativ steps aswell (i want to undervolt ).

memphiz

Yep this would be also an good thing !

Maybe negative value compute is more work, would also be such OCvidPlus = 1....10 and OCvidMinus = 1...10 possible , if -values in keyes are not easy to get/compute.

(backgound: my idee , on page 26, to add an new OCvidADD key to set VID (mVolt) steps up for OCed CPUs - used in great working pstates generator.

Well, i have a big temperature problem and i notice that comparing two Operating Systems. In Windows the temperature marks 78º working 100%, but in Mac the temperature marks 92º working 100% too. I'm sending you two screenshots for each Operating System. I'm sending too the DSDT file which is modified in several times in this forum.

Chameleon v2.0-RC5 r486

ChameleonRC5_rev486.zip

For some reason it detects my RAM as 1069Mhz instead of 1066Mhz, i'm not sure if this change affects performance or it's cosmetic only. It happens with DSDT and without. When i set it to 800 in BIOS - it detects it as 800, but when i set 1066 it detects 1069.

Another memory problem (a little bit more serious) is when i install another stick of 2GB i get the following error:

dscf1275i.jpg

This error appears only with DSDT, without DSDT and with NullCPU everything works fine.

This is my current DSDT: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1541027

My question is: is it possible to just remove all RAM related information from DSDT in order to fix this, or it's more complicated than what it sounds like?

Thanks oldnapalm! :) If there's no simpler workaround for this problem, i'll have no choice but to start messing around with DSDT. :)

And what you think about RAM frequency detection issue, it has nothing to do with DSDT - i checked. It's something to do with Chameleon.

If there's no simpler workaround for this problem, i'll have no choice but to start messing around with DSDT.

Redump your DSDT with the extra RAM in, search both old and new DSDT for all instances of "OperationRegion" and compare.

And what you think about RAM frequency detection issue, it has nothing to do with DSDT - i checked. It's something to do with Chameleon.

It's not important. Chameleon is probably accurate, it's possible that your memory actually is running 3 MHz faster, Chameleon just doesn't round down the numbers. Same with your CPU and your bus frequency, in reality they probably don't run at exact to-the-decimal official speeds either.

According to Chameleon, My 1066Mhz memory is at 1068Mhz and my 3166 MHz CPU at 3.17 GHz.

What happens if you don't overclock?

Without overclock, if i set only XMP (for 1600 mhz frequency) i've the same problem yet. I don't use any smbios. It's a problem? Under information about this mac i can read 1333 mhz instead 1600. My pc is recognized as mac pro 4.1.

Has System Profiler/About This Mac ever shown the correct speed for your RAM with a different bootloader/configuration?

Try setting your RAM to a slower speed (but not 1333) and see if Chameleon detects it correctly. This will be helpful in determining where the problem lies.

now i've tried with 1333...System show 1333 mhz frequency...Which other chamaleon's release with mem detection can i try?

And here the rev. 487 (trunk 487) with default theme, package w/o kext

Unofficial Chameleon 2 RC5 installer

What does this package?

- (Optional... Select by default) Install the chameleon bootloader (boot0, boot1h and boot).

- (Optional... Unselect by default Install the chameleon bootloader (boot0htf, boot1h and boot).

- (Optional... Unselect by default) Create a directory called util inside the Extra with the executable bdmesg for the Boot dump tool

- (Optional... Unselect by default) Creates / overwrites the standard theme with the new from rev 473

- (Optional... Unselect by default) Added the Chameleon Preference Panel Version 2

- The smbios.plist, DSDT.aml or any SSDT Tables and com.apple.Boot.plist and any kext present inside the Extra and Extra/Extensions will not be touched.

Thanks to everyone who made this possible!

To be honest there's not much else I can add without going over the top as I want to keep it simple
and it still has to fit most if not all resolutions.
The device icons are larger than the embedded theme to make use of the quality of the renders,
so as a consequence I have set the max_devices to 4.
I hope they're not deemed too big for small screen sizes, and if so I can either reduce their size
(which I don't really want to do), or lower the mac_devices further.

BootHelp.txt

The boot: prompt waits for you to type advanced startup options.
If you don't type anything, the computer continues starting up normally. It
uses the kernel and configuration files on the startup device, which it also
uses as the root device.

Advanced startup options use the following syntax:

   [device]<kernel> [arguments]

Example arguments include

device: rd=<BSD device name> (e.g. rd=disk0s2)
        rd=*<IODeviceTree path>    (e.g. rd=*/PCI0@0/CHN0@0/@0:1)

kernel: kernel name (e.g. "mach_kernel" - must be in "/" )

flags: -v (verbose) -s (single user mode)
-x (safe mode) -f (ignore caches)
-F (ignore "Kernel Flags" specified in boot configuration file)

"Graphics Mode"="WIDTHxHEIGHTxDEPTH" (e.g. "1024x768x32")

kernel flags (e.g. debug=0x144)
io=0xffffffff                      (defined in IOKit/IOKitDebug.h)

Example: mach_kernel rd=disk0s1 -v "Graphics Mode"="1920x1200x32"

If the computer won't start up properly, you may be able to start it up
using safe mode. Type -x to start up in safe mode, which ignores all
cached driver files.

Special booter hotkeys:
F5 Rescans optical drive.
F10 Scans and displays all BIOS accessible drives.

Special booter commands:
?memory Displays information about the computer's memory.
?video Displays VESA video modes supported by the computer's BIOS.
?norescan Leaves optical drive rescan mode.

Additional useful command-line options:
config=<file> Use an alternate Boot.plist file.

Options useful in the com.apple.Boot.plist file:
Wait=Yes|No Prompt for a key press before starting the kernel.
"Quiet Boot"=Yes|No Use quiet boot mode (no messages or prompt).
Timeout=8 Number of seconds to pause at the boot: prompt.
"Instant Menu"=Yes Force displaying the partition selection menu.

"Default Partition" Sets the default boot partition,
=hd(x,y)| where 'x' & 'y' are the disk and partition numbers
=<UUID> or specify the selected volume UUID string.
"Hide Partition" Remove unwanted partition(s) from the boot menu.
=hd(x,y) [hd(m,n)] only non mac osx boot partitions can be hidden.

"Rename Partition" Rename partition(s) for the boot menu.
   =hd(x,y) <alias> [;hd(m,n) <alias2> ...]

GUI=No Disable the GUI (enabled by default).
"Boot Banner"=Yes|No Show boot banner in GUI mode (enabled by default).

@iFabio - Thanks for your latest package installer - it works great

As a suggestion, I have been thinking about adding some words in to the installer to give some simple guidance / explanation of the first options - Would it be possible to add something like in the attached pics?

If the words are incorrect or anybody else can phrase things better then please feel free to change it. :P

And it would be nice to offer a ZIP archive for power users which only contains the "boot"-file. I do not want to go through the hole install process only to upgrade my bootloader.

Another suggestion: The P-state generation process does not work very well for me. The voltages are higher than Intel planned for my CPU. There should be a file in which the users can define the P-states on their own. That would even make undervolting possible.
