Swad
It'll never happen, but here's a great mockup for a future iMac. http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/ful...mage_id=1248178 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/21374-cool-future-imac-design/ Share on other sites
bluedragon1971
Hey, never say never. That could actually be achieved with current technology, similar to the windows that have LCD's in them that change from clear to opaque depending on the sunlight or user settings. Technobob
That's one sweet concept, Apple should hire this guy because the current iMac is ugly with that huge bezel making the screen look smaller then it is. I remember watching a technology show that showed off a clear OLED screen, so who knows this might happen some day. gwprod12
That is a gorgeous design. And aside from the screen, could be done with a mac mini motherboard. I dont think that any clear LCD exists, because if it did, I'd totally buy one. boo50
it's really cool.... i suppose what in neearest future.. maybe in 5 years we'll see smthng like that ...... i'm totally agree with bluedragon1971... Pippin
nice but Apple never makes that mice! And the thing behind the screen is too long, it should only be as small as the circle having the Apple logo. However it looks very cool... Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/21374-cool-future-imac-design/#findComment-141071 Share on other sites

U.C.
This is not impossible. An LCD is just Crystal between 2 Glasses. One of the side is just mirrored. Mirroring is done, in order to reflect the light required to see the display. My only qualm is that some plastic would have to be there to hold the display, ie to give it some protection from bumps, etc. Otherwise, I would love to see a display like this. Technobob
Unstable is right we all ready have see through LCD, all LCD are see through. For something like this screen to work it would need to be a OLED because it produces it's own light vs LCD that needs light to be added. Also with OLED it is possible to use plastic panels instead of glass so more durable. vince29
Too bad you can't build that thing. It lacks the circuitry to feed the lcd with signal. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/21374-cool-future-imac-design/#findComment-141100 Share on other sites
xiberia
Adam is a brilliant artist, and yeah, Apple should hire him. one thing that bothers me about that image, and its not the clear lcd, transparent keyboard or glowing mouse. its the fact that a future iMac is still using OSX! he should have done a mock-up of OSXI Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/21374-cool-future-imac-design/#findComment-141109 Share on other sites
Wuzzie
That is awsome. Apple should hire you to make the Core 2 Duo iMac or something. Apple are so lazy not even changing the design in 3 iMac generations... (Well, 2 and a half...ish being original G5, G5 w/ iSight and Core Duo) Just as long as they get the screen technologies up to date this could easily be possible. The computer itself t excellent... is all the hardware in that plastic looking bit attached to the back of the screen? I don't like the keyboard and mouse, but that's just me. It should have one of thos elazer keyboards that are just a light on your desk, and it detects where abouts your hand is (dont ask how) and uses that to change the position of the cursor. excellent mockup! jihuiwen
cool concept, but do i really need to see what's behind my imac when there's nothing for me to see, with all the addtional cost what usefulness would you get from that Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/21374-cool-future-imac-design/#findComment-141170 Share on other sites
BlueDude6
Well I suppose if you were in an office-client setting, doing something that wasnt too text based, the person on the other side of the desk could see some image you might want to present to them if it were clear, or on a section of the screen text could be mirrored as well so it's readable to them. There are a couple of sci-fi movies with screens like this concept that showed uses like that: dual-opposite-side viewing. kernalzero
I like the concept. My only critique is with the keyboard, the arch it creates isn't very ergonomical and might actually be less helpful than a standard keyboard. Maybe something like a vertical ergonomic keyboard. I haven't used one but they look futuristic Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/21374-cool-future-imac-design/#findComment-141660 Share on other sites
Takuro
I read somewhere that in 10-20 years, LCD screens are on their way out. Holograms will create any monitor size you want, depending on what work you're doing. Some Japanese company was testing this technology, and apparently the display is also touch-interactive. This could either be a future iMac or even just a new Cinema Display. If displays like this do come out, that amount of hardware connected to the back will be just the machinary needed to generate the image, let alone be a whole computer. BlueDude6
Yeah LCD's are definitely on their way out...I havent heard much about holograms replacing them yet. The hype i'v heard is about OLED displays which are organic, self iluminating (meaning a transparent screen like above is possible), and can be printed by slightly modified modern inkjet printers...which is amazing in my opinion. They can be printed onto lots of things such as clothing. Holograms would be pretty cool too. U.C.
Actually the plastic on LCD's has minimal (read none) circuitry. All this would require is probably a small plastic border, with a marginally thicker bottom, which will hold the circuitry. Also, the glass of LCD's is a circuit in itself. But the Aluminum printing is so thin that it is impossible to see. Each LCD Dot is a self contained light switch, thus requires seperate wiring. This will be easily doable with OLED's. With the Mini's components, it should fit in the stand too. BlueDude6
go the whole hog and get a projector keyboard :-) http://www.iwantoneofthose.com/search.do?productCode=PROKEY Weird how they say it's an infrared projector. Not only can we NOT see infrared with normal vision, but infrared is heat transferring part of the spectrum. If you wanna see another interesting keyboard check out the Optimus keyboard. Those keys are OLEDs that were mentioned before: http://www.artlebedev.com/portfolio/optimus/ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/21374-cool-future-imac-design/#findComment-141809 Share on other sites
kernalzero
BlueDude that's a nice keyboard and the customization possiblities are endless.
