BuXb
Guys x86 users with last version before 10.4.7 can update also?hm I am not sure if we are just having an English problem here - the "last version before 10.4.7" would be 10.4.6 - from what I understand 10.4.6 is obligatory (necessary, required) for this updater from JaS, so only 10.4.6 users can update. If you are running hackintosh 10.4.5 or smaller, you will first have to update to 10.4.6 before you can apply this hacked 10.4.7 update (because there is no cumulative updater for hackintosh available at this time, and probably never will be). jrrjrr
Junio -- Apple released 2 versions of the update. One is for updating ONLY 10.4.6 to 10.4.7 and the other is for updating ANY 10.4.x to 10.4.7. JaS has modified just the 10.4.6 to 10.4.7 version for us. His package is basically the same as what Apple released, without the kexts. JaS is not going to also modify the version for 10.4.x to 10.4.7, so to get to 10.4.7, you need to be at 10.4.6 first. Correction, there are 3 versions of this update: Combo - 10.4.x to 10.4.7 with all security updates. Delta Normal - 10.4.6 to 10.4.7 with all security updates. Delta Small - 10.4.6 to 10.4.7 only. For people with the security updates already. The Delta Small is only available to people using Software Update. The Delta Normal and Combo are both available for download at Apple's site. BuXb
JaS' package is basically the same as what Apple released, without the kexts. Are you sure that there are no new kexts at all in JaS' hacked updater? BTW, JaS has hacked Apple's Delta Normal 10.4.6 to 10.4.7 updater including all security updates. It would really be great if he could post in here what (apart from the security updates) is actually included in his updater and what he left out - I already sent him a PM, so maybe he lifts the veil in a little bit .. Squuiid
But don't we want the kexts too? It sounds as though there are some improved drivers in there, especially for nVidia users? Templeton Peck
You can extract the kexts via pacifist from the official update if you want. But there must be a reason for them to have been removed, right? Maybe the new ones break compatibility with certain setups. Hopefully Apple will stop this nonsense by the time the Mac Pros come out. Better yet, hopefully the Mac Pros will be cheap enough that I might actually consider buying one. BuXb
You can extract the kexts via pacifist from the official update if you want.right, I just unpacked JaS Archive.pax - no Extensions in there .. . Kinda strange because that way we do even have less of a real 10.4.7 OS (apart from the missing kernel) .. Maybe you feel like packaging and uploading the missing 10.4.7 XTs for the rest of the gang here. John the Geek
Hopefully Apple will stop this nonsense... Yeah, supporting your unsupported hardware configuration should be their top priority with each update!!! Wow, that's pretty self-centered. I can't believe you said it so casually. If your unhappy with the lack of OS X drivers for your generic hardware then write the drivers yourself, otherwise stop b*tching about the fact that Apple isn't doing it. They didn't sell you the hardware, so they aren't obligated to support it. EDIT: Let me clarify that so I don't sound so aggressive. My point was that it's only natural for Apple to thin their drivers to only support shipping hardware. When 10.4 was released the Intel version was still hush, and the earliest builds ran only in BIOS. So the drivers had to support a broader set of hardware for testing. Now that the final product is out and running well, cutting the unused parts of the kexts is only natural to speed things up. To expect Apple to leave it there, or even to expand generic support for hardware they don't even sell, is an absurd idea. To make the official builds better and more stable you cut unused code. That's just common sense to me. It's not "nonsense" at all. But that's just my perspective. quixos
Extensions in there .. . Kinda strange because that way we do even have less of a real 10.4.7 OS (apart from the missing kernel) .. Maybe you feel like packaging and uploading the missing 10.4.7 XTs for the rest of the gang here. i'm using 4.7 with 4.4 Extensions, it runs smooth as butter, it's almost like having 4.3 back gui speed wise. mounting dmg is faster, the finder pops up., windows resized and max/min more smoothly. for what it's worth, i had the my highest "un-beamsynced" graphics score with xbench. all with 4.4 Extensions, and 4.7 Frameworks, plus the 12 updated applications and utilities. the Extensions are just drivers. if you HAVE functionality, outside of rare cases like the x1600, you are not going to find new drivers optimized for our hobby macs. how much more than functionality do we need in a driver. there will always be someone who'll explore the newest kexts and discover new functionality, or hack. but for everyone else, who just wants what works to remain working, without having to mkdir, cp -R, mv, nano and chown -R root:wheel all day, the new drivers are a waste of time and space. the new Extensions can always be found and extracted from the latest Update hosted at Apple. BuXb
I will be checking out the new 10.4.7 GeForce kexts .. Doing "Repair Permissions" from within Disk Utility after copying XTs into the XTension folder usually does the job. hanschien
Anybody here updated to 10.4.7 without using JaS's (Intel) update? Everything works fine except that I can't seem to be able to open dmg files anymore. According to pacifist, diskimages-helper was replaced in the update. Reverting to a backed up version didn't solve the problem. DiskImageMounter.app doesn't load either. I also noticed the apple and spotlight icon in the menu bar has shrunk in size.
