530geek
Hi guys, I just got done installing my new i7 setup... Everything except for sleep works. The only other problem is that I don't seem to be able to read CPU temps and fan speeds. Tried a few different programs, but they only see the hard drive temps. No CPU temps. I upgraded from my trusty old DELL Inspiron 530 to this build, so I used some DSDT.aml file I found online.... could this be the problem? Thanks in advance for any help! jhrfc
Yes thats it. The only thing I did was to add the HPET fix http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...&start=800# sometimes helps to delete the powermanagement plist and reboot for a fresh start I only use my 2 front speakers and integrated sub, I had rears working a couple of times but I'm not bothered too much as if I want surround sound I'll use the tv and hifi. So I just use one of DD DSDT edits and run with native Apple kexts, seems to work for me I think I've cracked it at last! My mistake was to enter my mobile me info at the os registration stage! This mounts your idisk (via webdav i guess). This is what was KPing after sleep. After logging out of mobile me things where better, but still got some KPs with Sleepenabler. Now I've patched my DSDT and running native apple cpu kexts and so far so good, sleep works and all my apps migrated over. Maybe even idisk might now work but, i fancy a break for risk of KP for a while! Thanks to Locusofcontrol and Crusair + d00d for his DSDT info! I've now noticed some turbo messages on boot, has 10.6.2 got some support for this as new imacs can have an i7? Cheers Jon
pcace
I did it ...finally. This is how: Partitioned my disk into 1 HFS+ and a FAT32 Restored a cloned version of my working OS X install (would otherwise install at this stage) Reinstalled my bootloader Rebooted and installed Windows (formatting my FAT32 partition as NTFS) Rebooted into OS X and set partition as active Reboot to check if bootloader worked correctly Boot into OS X and set Windows drive as active Boot Windows install disc and repair install Boot OS X and set partition to active (again) I'm 90% sure that's how I did it. I'm not sure if all of those steps are necessary, but it works so I'm not gonna bother myself too much with the facts. Thank you soooo much!!! You saved my day! THANKS! mangopeach
I changed some kexts around for 10.6.2 to boot into x64 mode and now my geekbench is 12400. Which is low (relatively speaking) my maintenance drive is geekbenching at 13444 which is normal. Is there a kext that i am missing that is maybe disabling turbo mode to effectively bring my multiplier down to x20 instead of x21.. Have any of you experienced your geekbench going down dramatically by changing kexts around?

I'm wondering also wether these are kext related. i do know that after switching to chameleon bootloader rc3, and there was one time kexts did not install the proper way, my geekbench went WAY down to about 6700 on a 4.0 ghz overclock, maybe DD can look into this and tell us which kexts are directly related to affecting CPU temps and performance! ed
digital_dreamer
MAJ MAJ, thanks for the reply. Here is a picture of the KP. I am installing from an image of my retail purchased Snow Leopard disc, so it is 10.6.1. The error I mentioned happened while using the script, not the OS x installer. Thanks! That KP is not revealing what process has crashed, so it _looks_ like a non-kext-related crash with little information. Next time you boot, try using the -v flag at boot time, so we can see most of the log during the KP. You're installing from a Leo install to another partition on the same system, correct? Using a 10.6.1 retail disc. Have you tried a preboot CD or USB drive method? Don't really see what's going on, sorry! MAJ

mangopeach
I am at 3.8ghz. I was simply saying that i had 10.6.2 running in 32 bit mode at 13400 then i booted into my maintenance drive which also geekbenches (64bit version) to 13444 and then i followed some comments about 64bit booting. I changed some kexts around according to posters in this thread and now booting into 64bit mode I lost 1000 points in geekbench.. system seems stable and everything but why the lower geekbench. Since we are not talking about a change in the hardware settings in bios but rather changes made to kexts in extra and s/l/e on my snow 10.6.2 drive. I stupidly did not make notes as to my previously configuration.. so i'm trying to get things back to 13400 but I can't so far.
Sinusoid
I am sure the issue related with shutdown is due to your bios settings, u can try and reset your bios settings and edit only the needed ones which will enable the machine to boot. I have also noticed that overclocking also sometimes messes up reboot/shutdown/sleep. You can check d00ds post here, maybe that might help you if you want to patch your DSDT. I honestly dont know why your sound isnt working in direct 6 channel mode, can you provide a log or check your system profile to see if the kext is being loaded. I tweaked my BIOS and got shutdown working properly. I'll see about sleep later, but that's not as important. pvdbogaard
I have the SL install DVD copied to a bootable USB stick. This works great. Had a Leopard based Hackintosh that worked flawlessly and trying to get SL intalled and working SL installation is troublesome. In order to speed things up a little I created an archive from S/L/E. SL kernel paniced. Booted in Leopard. Copied the sle.tar to SLE and than recalled it wat the SLE of Leopard. One minute later Leopard was frozen..... Leopard panics now when trying to boot. And Snow Leopard was already showing this behaviour :-( I can boot from my installatio USB stick. What do I need to do to get the network working? I tried kextload-ing the Realtek 1000 module, this worked and two interfaces show up. ifconfig functions ok. Have the interfaces up. However I can't do anything. Is there more to get to a Leopard computer on the same network (192.168.0.X)? Used: ifconfig en0 192.168.0.246 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.0.255 and same for en1 (not sure which one of the interfaces is what) after destroying en0 If I get there, I can "just" copy the SLE of that installation to my destroyed SLE directory. Hopefully it will boot again for any final repairs if any. Other solutions are welcome too ofcourse Thanks Paul

Thank you for your clear explanation of what's happening. I'm in 32 bit mode running geekbench 2.1.2. Should i be expecting a lower score because of that? Apart from that, I have turbo boost enabled, and hyperthreading enabled too!! And when i get the chance i will take same picutres of my bios. I have also read somewhere else that having more than 6gb of ram can cause problems with temps and overclocking and geek bench scores. I have 12gb of ddr3 ram and maybe that could be the cause of my low score. You'd have to advise me on that. I'd say i'm not complaining about a 11500 score. I'm using it for music production and i would say i can barely make a crack on this computer when i'm running protools, logic runnning tons of plugins ( if you know what i'm talking about). But if someone is getting 13400, i'd like to know how!!! haha I also had another core i7 setup with a DFI lan party junior x58 motherboard, and i remembered i overclocked that to about 3.4ghz without much voltage change, i only geekbenched close to 10,000. So i don't know how you're getting 12,400. I also had turbo mode enabled and hyperthreading enabled. i'm using a D0 stepping chip by the way, just bought this about 2 months ago. i used to have the c0 one and yes that was very difficult to get it past 3.6ghz!! the d0 ones are superb for overclocking. I'm using a noctua cooler with two noctua 120mm quiet fans in push pull.. along with about 4 more around the case for airflow. Yertil
DVD Player is not installed during Snow Leopard clean installation. I think this is a common problem with installs on non-Apple hardware. This is pure guesswork on my part, but I think the primary installer bundle checks for supported DVD-playing hardware and only executes the player install on a hit. In my case, the LG BR/DVDR drive must not have produced the hit: HL-DT-ST BDDVDRW GGC-H20L: Firmware Revision: 1.03 Interconnect: ATAPI Burn Support: Yes (Generic Drive Support) Profile Path: None Cache: 2048 KB Reads DVD: Yes CD-Write: -R, -RW DVD-Write: -R, -R DL, -RAM, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO The fix is simple, and I'd wager could be easily built into DD's script: Insert or mount your SL installer. I have not tried installing using any other method as I have always had good luck with your script loading to a separate HDD. Thanks! Ouch. Your KP is happening right at the beginning just after loading the kernel. Anyone have an idea here? I suspect the boot cache in Extra. Is there a Extensions.mkext file present in Extra? What size? What kexts is it composed of? Built in Leo? Do you have a DSDT patch installed? If so, remove it for the time being. We'll try to cut this down to the bare minimum. MAJ Anybody got news about the core i9? issit out yet? i heard our core i7 mobos will support that!! woohooo NDA... Yeah, it's nice our current X58 chipset will support it! An increase in performance of about 20-25%, clock for clock! 12MB L3 Cache. But, I hear the price will be in 4 figures, like the eXtreme versions. Bet it'll come down, though. RickyTan
Upgrading to 10.6.2 for NVidia Users If you are using an NVidia 9xxx, 8xxx or 7xxx series graphics card, be sure to visit this thread for information on problems you may encounter when upgrading to 10.6.2. Basically, if you get a solid blue or black screen after installing the 10.6.2 update, but no kernel panic, you may be affected. Snow Leopard 10.6.2 brings new NVidia drivers which may cause problems for users who have certain NVidia 7, 8, or 9 series cards connected to an HDCP capable display. This would include all HDMI monitors, as well as some DVI monitors (especially newer ones). VGA monitors use analog video, which does not have HDCP protection, so it does not appear to affect those. Essentially, the solution is to use the NVidia drivers from 10.6.1 to work around the issue. They can be installed in the EFI or system partition. This thread has the details of the problem and how to resolve it.

leitoo
Hello, Does anyone knows a way to make the Gigabyte GV-R485OC compatible with snowleopard? I still have graphics corruption.. the only way to boot snwoleopard is to boot in safe mode, and the system recognize my graphic card, but shows only 256mb of memory. I've heard about rom injection...?
