swede420
Changes: 1.Snow Leopard support 2.smbios.plist support http://www.apple163.com/thread-1476-1-1.html Edit: tried to boot the DVD but i get ´´still waiting for root device´´in x64 mod, in 32 mod it gets to the page that comes just before the installation with mouse arrow and stops there, it does not hang but it seems it cant go further. Anybody knows why? EDIT2: I reproduced the DVD image on my hard-drive and BootTink 2.3 booted the installation flawlessly! But i still don't know why it cant boot from the DVD drive? Schwinn555
Chameleon RC 2 boots Windows 7 64 bit or Mac fine on my machine. RC 3 is needed for Snow Leopard. xtraa
So, which one is more compatible with SL: BootThink or Chameleon RC3? If you need dsdt.aml support and Chameleon doesn't detect your DVD drive, then you should try Boot Think instead. mitch_de
Yep - the manual of boot think is at least for experienced OS X users much more usefull than ALL chameleon "manuals" - near useless for detail questions. I like chameleon crew but can completly NOT understand why they arent able to make an manual which is useful to use all available RC2+RC3 features without asking around in their forum or here. At least i will try the new BT 2.3 on an USB-Stick (as PreBoot volume to boot OS X DVD). tdtran1025
I was using BootThink 2.1 before. It was beautiful and functional, but without support for SL that I was tesing3 months ago, I went back to CHameleon. Chameleon is a great product. But it is a bear to tame and I don't know how to do it such that my RC1 will boot SL but RC2 won't - RC1 will bott RC2 but not the other way around. I don't even know how to control the boot background with RC2 and the new RC3 does not seem to install properly on my machine. Now that this new 2.3 bootthink does SL, it's all the more reason for me to go back to it. It took 3 mins from install to restart and it boot my current SL. It even boot 2 other partitions with SLs installed with Chameleon. But the Chameleon won't boot BootThink. I don't know, maybe Chameleon team is hard at work on something real big like booting SL DVD. I trust the dev team but for now BootThink stays for a while. miliuco
Tried with success in my PC (see sig.), only 10.5 for now. It boots perfectly Windows XP from other hard disk. Putting AHCI or SATA extensions into /Darwin/System/Library/Extensions it can boot from Leopard DVD. Both commands "# p=-" (hide non bootable partitions) and "# b=3" (timeout for default partition) work well. tdtran1025
I was relying on the ability to boot in 32-bit and legacy mode so that I could use Menu Meters, Little Snitch, and Pacicfist. Now all these applets are available for Snow, forget the 32-bit startup. BTW, the x64 driver for Attansic Ethernet is also available. My SL is now PERFECT, except I still cannot boot from CD or DVD. I tried to re-install it twice but still no change. Anyone having better luck? oSxFr33k
This seems to be a bit confusing. I see this Thread and two other threads on the Boot 132. I am guessing I have to try both boot 132's and bootthink 2.3 to see which works better for me. I have a near mac hardware clone so I am guessing they all should work? See my Signature. CJP2
Worked perfectly for me. I'd been tearing my hair out for 2 weeks trying for a successful Snow install and could never get past a KP on first boot. Tried every flavor of Chameleon, PC EFI V10-10.2 (and 9), from DVD, from restored partition, from Terminal, something about my board just didn't want to cooperate. And I've been running retail vanilla 10.5.5-8 fully from a EFI partition and plist strings up till now so I'm pretty sure I know my way around these things and my boards own peculiarities. Then I stumbled on this thread late one night and thought "why not, give'r a go". I installed it on a internal ATA hd (MBR) that had my old original Kaly 5.2 install on it, set that disk to boot from my bios and TA DA! Through the selection screen I was able to quickly find and boot the Install DVD restored onto a USB drive partition, boot into it and install Snow on a blank partition on my GUID main internal hd just as easy as on my real 07 Macbook. Easy set up just like Chameleon but everything goes into a Darwin folder at root. DSDT, com.apple.Boot.plist, smbios.plist are all supported. (* they go where you installed BootThink so in my case it's on a partition of another drive than my Snow install thus leaving Snow completely unmodified.) It can be installed on a disk, partition or EFI. Best of all it can boot an OS from another hd which Chameleon can't do yet which is great for me because I've got 3 internal hd with multiple OS and different builds scattered across all of them. Good documentation with the dl and a uninstaller. Works great and updated to 2.3.18 as of yesterday. If you've been frustrated with Chameleon and Snow then give this a whirl and take the pain out of 64 bit love. Scottapotamas
Any chance someone running snow would be able to screenshot their CD, and Library SL folders... I have fakesmc.kext, PlatformUUID, NullCPU....kext abd IOATAFamily.kext Mine won't boot the dvd or install(not finished yet) and my cd has the same kexts... markwen
This is my Experience. I have 3 OS on HD. Win 7 x64, Leopard 10.5.8, Snow Leopard 10.6.1. I install boot think 2.3 to boot. It's perfect. Except boot from SL Install DVD. First time, i plus all kexts and replace Extensions.mkext of mine into CD Folder. The system boot from DVD into a gray screen, and stoped.(Not Apple LOGO) 2nd time, i replace the Extensions.mkext from boot think pkg. The system boot into lang screen after 2 minutes. CJP2
Try restoring the Install DVD to a small partition and going that route, DVD seems to be iffy no matter what approach you'r taking. The only kexts I have in my BootThink folders right now are fakesmc.kext and intel82566MM for my ob ethernet. I do have a couple I'm testing right now in S/L/E including openhaltrestart, AHCIPortInjector (cosmetic to correctly show my ICH type) and AppleVIAATA for my Marvell IDE controller. Start with the minimum you need just to get to the OSX installer, you can always add more later to the BootThink loader once you've got Snow going, not neccessary to have full graphics, sound and network right away to have a functional install. triple675
Finally, I got SL running on my system using Bootthink on USB and used retail DVD (no restore to USB Drive). Only issue I'm having now is being able to install it to EFI partition of SL hard drive. When I run the Boot Think installer from SL, EFI option isn't enabled and installing from Leopard (10.5) the installer gets stuck half way trying to write bom files to /Library/Receipts/boms/. /Library/Receipts/boms directory doesn't exist under SL. Anyone successfully installed Boot Think 2.3.18 to EFI?
