Well, at least I get a normal MacOS X crash screen when switching resolutions (press powerbutton to reboot yada yada...), it's better than just getting a bluescreen I guess. In other words, there's still problems with X1800/1900-series of graphicscards.

lol let me know if it works that's good for u, cause a lot of guys changing resolution or rebooting experiencing the screen scramble like in b001 and b002

I rebooted again just for giggles and it worked absolutely just fine. *shrugs* We'll see if I have any issues farther on down the road, but for now, this is working perfectly for me.

Here: Inspiron 6000, M300 64M ID 54601002, 1280x800

OS.10.4.6 Koverg patched ATIRadeon9700.kext

works great at 1280x800

(chess, screensaver all work under it)

thanks , omni

(on your install section,

vi CallistoHAL.kext/Content/Info.plist, should be

vi CallistoHAL.kext/Contents/Info.plist... )

success:

Dell inspiron 6000, x300 (id 5460) 128mb,

Running Native 1680x1050!!! WITH QE/CI

FOR QE/CI fix, do the folllowing. (for you with x300 id5460)

Change the ATIRADEON9700GA.plugin -- show contents -- open contents folder -- edit info.plist, add CallistoFB (like in #11 in omni's FAQ)

Start System Preferences and go to "Account".

In the login options add the display prefpane

(to do this search for it (by typing "displays") using spotlight, open (show all) spotlight and move "displays" to the login options)

restart

BLIND MODE

when osx has FULLY loaded (the screen might be completely garbeld)

WAIT UNTIL THE HARDDISK ACTIVITY HAS STOPPED

Hold ALT and press TAB once (ALT is the "windows key" next to the real ALT key)

then just press TAB (without ALT), then use the arrow keys to go up and down to choose a working res (1680x1050 works if that native res)

DONT RUSH IT (unless you like hacking in bash)

i hope those instructions are of help to someone..

Cheers!

Alpha 3 has limited success on my x800 XL[PCI-E], and my ye olde dell LCD flatscreen. I get the Apple Middle Finger whenever I try to switch resolutions or refresh rates. FYI, the Apple Middle Finger is the restart in 4 languages screen. Alpha 2 worked fine, albeit the occasional "dual screen" glitch.

I rebooted again just for giggles and it worked absolutely just fine. *shrugs* We'll see if I have any issues farther on down the road, but for now, this is working perfectly for me.

The only time I've ever gotten messed up screen after it working was when I didn't shut down properly, ie used the Apple ->shutdown. If i do anything but that such as sudo reboot or just hit the power button, the driver gets funky for a couple restarts, but then I restart a couple times and then I get the two screen problem, then i play the switch resolutions around game then it all works, but it's good. Now for dopefish, scousi, and I to finish this sound driver.

OS 10.4.6 QE/CI enabled

Just tried on 10.4.6 with modified ATIRADEON9700GA.plugin... (ATIRadeon9700.kext was koverg patched already)

first reboot the screen went to a mess,

second, third reboots, the screen seemed ok, and with CI/QE enabled. (mouse tearing is back again)

what is the difference with and without the QE/CI

I thought one of the way to tell was if one can play the game "chess"? but without modifying this ATIRadeon9700GA.plugin, it is already playable, without mouse tearing....

flow,

I've got the same machine, but have been having some trouble getting QE/CI working. If you highlight Callisto in System Profiler | Extensions, does it tell you that the Dependencies are incomplete?

In my case I'm told that it can't find a valid version of IOGraphicsFamily... I suspect this is the cause of my trouble...

I checked, both of them are "statisfied"

I dont know if you did anything to the ATIRadeon9700.kext. with koverg patch?

and one more thing, sometime it needs multiple boots to get out messy screens

luckly, I have a USB drive with a working OSX on it, anything went wrong, I just boot from that USB to fix

flow,

Yeah I've used the koverg patch... I am fairly certain that something is poopy with the JaS 10.4.6 install DVD. Looking around it seems to be people using that install who are running into trouble. Did you install from JaS' 10.4.6 DVD?

munky,

I'm guessing you did install from that? If you didn't would you lie to prove my theory? It would make isolating this problem so much easier :-p

(Just messing... Don't lie :-))

EDIT: munky, are you saying that the deps are satisfied now? That dep issue can be seen across all the ATIRadeon* extensions for me too, amongst others...

this one works, as far as setting resolutions. but when i reboot, it freaks out. it shows two desktops on one monitor, and i have to navigate around until i find the system prefs and reset it back to 1280x1024 or lower, then i can reset back to the native resolution of the screen. i get failed dependencies IOPCIFamily and IOGraphicsFamily. both of these are present in my extensions folder.

10.4.6, mobility 9600, dell inspiron 8600.

much much better. i can at least boot now with the callisto drivers installed. :D any suggestions to get these dependency issues sorted out though?

Here is the detail of my system.

inspiron 6000. x300 64M, 1280x800.

10.4.5 installed. updated myzar 10.4.6 updater .

applyed Koverg patch on ATiRadeon9700.kext --->1024x768 with QE/IC enabled.

applied omni beta 3. 1280x800 ok, chess ok, no QE/IC

modified the ATIRadeon9700GA.plugin. multiple reboots

1280x800 with QE/IC enabled. ( mouse tearing again)

Nice one omni :( tnx

What about core and quarty ?

All those asking about Core Image and Quartz Extreme should go have a read on Omni's web site....

Basically, he stated that CI and QE are NOT controlled by Callisto....His driver has nothing to do with those two....

It's possible to enable one or both, (depending on your card) by adding your card ID# inside a specific extension kext.....

You will find the recipe for that if you search this forum, maybe in the Genius bar (I think)......

this is why i still swear by my 10.4.4/10.4.5 install DVD. Then manually patch with myzar's 10.4.6 update. seriously if you are having trouble with the 10.4.6 Install disk.. go back.

In other news if you use JaS 10.4.6 image then DONT select to install ATI Radeon Mobility gfx pack at install (it will screw your system up)

In the meantime we'll continue to ask: Any inspiron6k users got it working after a direct install of 10.4.6 disc??

if you want a working system NOW then go HOTiSO.4 (don't know about HOTiSO.6)

well, i can just say that "Hi"10.4.4 without update works.. but good luck get it working under .6.. i'll come after you when you do ;-)

cheers!

Heh get moving, I just enabled QE/CI in my JaS 10.4.6 install :-). I'm one happy camper now...

I did it by using pacifist and getting the 10.4.4 kexts (ATIRadeon9700*, IOGraphicsFamily, IONDRVSupport) out of the Essentials.pkg file on the install disk, dumping them in /System/Library/Extensions/, running koverg's patch, and editing ATIRadeon9700.kext's Info.plist.

Now I've got no more dependency issues and acceleration. Teh win.

EDIT: This is on an Inspiron 6000 :graduated:

Reporting Success with an Inspiron6000 and an ATI Radeon x300 (id 5460)

I'm now able to have my native resolution of 1920x1200. Thx omni

There are still two things not working correctly though:

1. After most reboots the screen is eather white flickering with the desktop recognizable or totally destroyed, by switching resolutions inside the os I can fix this

2. mouse tearing, but oh well, who has not his problem?

Keep up the good work, omni

003 was a huge improvement for us lcd users!
