You know, I'm on way to make a hackintosh. And I was wondering if there could be an interface to this database. Let me explain:

Users can freely add their hadware, make note about, indicate what kext to use... Maybe could it be the other way? Such as:

- First step: What processor have I.

- Second: What motherboard have I.

- Third: What graphical card have I.

- Fourth: What soundcard have I.

- Fifth: What exotic hardware have I.

And so on...

At the end, the user have a result of what kext are indicated in the database and the user sould get to have an operational sytem.

I believe it wouldn't be 100 percent operational, but it might help a lot. Or not, it's maybe better if users keeps use the good old way of searching by themself ;) .

I believe this is what you are kind of looking for: http://www.osx86library.com/hardware/build.php

We are going to add Download / kext attachment soon. We are currently in the concept / design stage for that.

Submitted my hardware the day it opened for submission and nothing yet.

Thanks mods - I guess I'll contribute to OSx86 library instead, at least they care more.

@dr. hurt - we've been inundated with submissions, in the thousands now - we'll be getting everything live next Friday, so please stay tuned!

@Icchan-san - as mentioned above, we're still busily going through all the contributions, thanks so much for yours, they don't go live instantly as we do need to check and approve before going live.

I submitted a handful of things, but haven't seen the list updated since it's been posted. Wiki was instant, but I guess thats not the biggest issue. Looks good all in all, really like the new look. *except for those ugly google ads for pystar in the top banner, they need to be framed or relocated IMO. But I understand someone gotta pay the bills ^_^

Great idea. A big help for the note users (for having the closed architecture) would be the drivers development or paths for the various lines DV (as my notebook dv6110br, because I don't have discovery compatible distros for him).

Thanks,

Great resource, thanks for the hard work! I submitted a couple of entries on items I've worked with.

Any chance of integrating this with the data that PC Wiz has collected in his hardware compatibility database? Not trying to step on any toes here, but it just seems like consolidating all this compatibility information in one place would be a big win for the community. Just throwing it out there.

It looks like a nice interface for adding entries, but what about doing queries? For example I followed the tree down to my motherboard, the ASUS P5GC-MX/1333 and there was nothing there. Is that to say that there is nothing populated in that data node? How can someone see which items actually have data in them instead of just empty nodes? I don't mind putting in my info from what I've had working but it's nice to know there is some way to tell if someone else had any success, even if it's someone looking for my results...

This might not be the place to ask but can anyone write a guide for a Sony Vaio SR Series laptop? I'm trying with iatkos 5i and keep getting stuck near the very end. I think it's the customize option that I'm having trouble with. If anyone has written a guide for it already or something similar, could you please help me as I haven't seen any guides yet.

Thanks in advance,

Corey

OK, I'm adding my hardware to the database, but how can I see other hardware instructions and opinions ? Because when I'm clicking on any hardware pops up window in wich I can add my own opinions etc. I don't see what other users written...

I went through and put my machine in the database, logged in and nothing.

Nvidia 8500 GT

:)

Is it working ? or absolutly useless, right now !?

Fantastic four ,..... osx database is not in it,...

flame on !

- previous database was useless to me,.... even the best, most compatible hardware was not listed,...

+ best hardware, list first , would that be something !?

- new face , same story ?

- if people going to waste their time, putting in info,.... at least, should be able to find their own stuff ?!

- search is not working, is'nt it , a database, ehm, for searching ?

- all those tabs, of 10.4x , 10.5.4 , 10.5.5, 10.5.6 with nothing in it ,

great hmm, just click on it,.... hehe,... wasted your time, dead link here,.... nothing listed, oh, got you !!

Do everybody a favor,..... go fix it.

Do a TOP 10 list

- Laptops

since more than 50% of new sales are laptops,...

here is a easy one for you,....

1. Macbook

2. macbook pro

3. dell ,....gues wich one has the most forum hits ?

- netbooks

1. Dell mini 9 , since it has the best support

2. MSI , XXX , since it was the first,....

- motherboards ,

break it down by intel/amd and sockets

- graphics-cards

- misc-adapters

========

and now the "he who must not be named" 10

..... basically stuff, what's worse, or definitly is not working

- laptops

- motherboard

- graphics cards

after that, use the database to glue the 2 together,

and fill in the blanks. that's the gist of it,....

search , results,....

=> want to find what definitly works !!! and how to

=> want to find the stuff, what's not working, so I could stop, hitting my head , against a brick wall,...

=> and then the stuff, with a lots of maybes,....

last note,

if it takes more than 3 clicks, or searches,....

- and can't find, one usable entry

- can't find my own entry

- can't find what's not working

point blank,.... it's useless !

now go, put the flame out, by fixing it !

now if you don't or do agree with me,.... post here,... since its a forum, it needs your post,

@rschultz101 - thanks for your feedback, lots of good points raised in there, most of which we're already aware of and/or are working on - we're still working hard on the database so that we can display results, but we're taking our time to get this right, so we may have a few more weeks yet until we're able to deliver it - we're keen to test it thoroughly before releasing it in the wild! It will be worth the wait though! =)
