1. This is such a great tool! The Lionize process is slick and painless, but I am getting an error that says "Pthread support ABORTS when sync kernel primitives misused" then the dreaded "Still waiting for root device" when I boot from my USB. THis occurs directly after the USB devices are initialized in the boot process. I have tried different USB ports and have even made the EFI partition on the USB bootable with a direct boot-uuid call. The same error occurs. I am trying to perform the method from DVD to rule out a USB issue, will check back. Thanks. -Ben EDIT: for anyone still having 'still waiting for root device' issue on the USB boot, I solved this by deleting the AppleTyMCE.kext from the S/L/E folder on the USB Boot drive. Now the installer initializes just fine! Still unable to install on my Snow Leopard drive as it says "this disk doesnt support OS X boot" or something in the disk selection window, but working on that EDIT2: ok! up and running. For anyone who has reformatted their EFI system partition to use as a backup/primary place to store your /Extra/Extensions and other mods, under Snow Leopard, and are getting the message in the Lion installer that your SL disk is unable to boot OS X, you have to get the gdisk tool and change the identifier of the partition to be EFI, instead of HFS+. This post says how. Those of you who use this method should always keep a backup /Extra folder on your normal OSX boot disk, as I believe a Disk Repair in Lion reformats the EFI partition as FAT32 Surprised others hadnt posted solutions for these before (or i missed them)! I installed 10.7.2 into the BOX folder and am up to date thanks ErmaC <3
2. Rampage III Gene

Hey all, I haven't been checking this thread too often, but I am still on the same mobo. About to update to 10.6.7 Wish me luck. If there are still people out there trying to get this board working and have questions, feel free to PM me
3. Rampage III Gene

@maissiou23 other than the posts linked in the first post, the other one I referred to was the Rampage II Gene thread, although a bit of the hardware is different. Can find it here @Ray_001 I havent seen that error before. I am using my RAM in a 2GBx3 config also. I would suggest re-downloading and installing a fresh copy of the latest fakesmc.kext (search around) as well as NulllCPUPowerManagement.kext Good luck. Actually, I just reread your post. Just try the DSDT before anything else. it will probably solve that problem.
4. remove and reinstall ethernet

This came in handy. It is a Plist in the /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration called NetworkInterfaces.plist I backed up the original, then deleted everything in between the <array> </array> tags (almost the whole file) then rebooted. Interfaces are all re-generated and en0 is detected again. Thanks.
5. Rampage III Gene

I can get audio working fine with VoodooHDA.kext. By 'fine' I mean when the system boots it works fine, but more than half the time the system KPs at VoodooHDA.kext while booting the OS. So for now I am without sound as well.
6. Rampage III Gene

Unfortunately, because I installed OSX from a working hackintosh, I am not familiar with the ##### setup. For the still waiting for root device error, I would search these forums, there are a million posts on that topic. Have you edited your BIOS and set all your hard drive and RAID settings to AHCI? I used RC5 mostly for the graphics injector for my 470 gtx. There are modded versions of rc4 that have the same functionality, if I remember correctly. Good luck!
7. Rampage III Gene

Vanilla 10.6.4 It seems to be working just fine. I am seeing the usual issues where CPU and hard drives will be halted, but fans keep spinning in the case and I have to hard reboot. I don't really shut down my machine so I haven't tested shutdown or sleep capability. I think the RC5 bootloader with the graphics enabler flag is a good solution for most gfx cards now. If you search that card in these forums, Im sure there is plenty to be found. http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2010/02/cha...-installer.html I was able to boot up the first time using fakesmc and a DSDT from a rampage ii gene I found on these forums. I then created my own DSDT using http://www.kexts.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=131 and although I am sure it isnt perfect, it works fine so far. Thats why I made this thread I am definitely not a pro, but it was harder for me to get the board working without any thread focused on it, so I figured I could help a little.
8. Just wanted to get this topic going. I wanted to try a Rampage III Gene and just got it up and running. I wanted to post my Extra folder. Pretty basic stuff. I am using Chameleon RC5 bootloader. I can't help actually getting this booted from a retail disc, I used my existing osx install and changed the /E/E and S/L/E contents. Network was sorta hard to find, but from Windows device manager I could see the model. It is Intel 82567v-2. The IntelE1000e.kext in the folder included works fine, but I had to install to my S/L/E folder before it worked, it wouldn't work from /E/E. Graphics took a second to figure out too, but I got my gtx470 booted using the new bootloader and GraphicsEnabler=y along with modded Nvidia kexts. For graphics this post helped: http://www.insanelym...howtopic=214219 Edit: I currently do not have a audio solution. VoodooHDA works fine for me while the system is up, but when it is in use the machine KPs during boot very frequently. Update: 11/17/2010 - Updated gtx 470 drivers with new official drivers from Nvidia. Working great. After update to 10.6.5 my restart fixed itself (still have evoReboot.kext in Extra), so now only nonworking feature for me is the audio. Finally got sound working with this modified VoodooHDA . What a hassle. My gfx card's "Digital-out HDMI" was the only audio device that could be seen. The modded VoodooHDA adds a section where you can skip a device. Voila. I think the normal VoodooHDA should work for most people without a gfx card issue. This mobo is now fully working except usb 3.0 and sata revision 3 (waiting on Apple for those). Alternate download Extra.zip: (no longer relevant for 10.7) http://www.mediafire...317qk2sf5pa1ip9 Update 02/07/2012 - To get to 10.7.2 I followed this guide http://www.insanelym...pic=267001&st=0 In order to boot from USB I had to delete the AppleTyMCE.kext from the S/L/E folder on the USB Boot drive created following this process. Then the drive booted and all was well Extra.zip
9. Adding my contribution, my hardware list is posted on MightyLedZep's thread for the Z8PE-D12 M/B. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1466142
10. Howdy, and thanks MLZ for taking the plunge on this one. Just wanted to confirm that was able to install Snow Leopard 10.6.3 on this board. I installed 10.6.3 from retail to my boot hard drive on a Mac I already had set up. I then installed Chameleon bootloader and a few kexts (Disabler, fakesmc, dsmos, one or two others). I tried booting a few times on the Z8PE-D12 but it would always hang after some network output. I could never get this board to boot from the OSX retail CD so I then went back to my existing Mac and set up a USB drive to boot Snow Leopard (very easy, just copy DVD to .dmg then restore .dmg to USB then install Chameleon on the USB along with an Extras folder with a few kexts required to boot). I then booted into Chameleon on my Z8PE-D12, booted from the USB, installed 10.6.3 again, and from then on its been working. I had to edit the smbios.plist for the correct info, but no big deal. I havent gotten the onboard network working, because I have a 10Gb Chelsio NIC in there that is working great with our 10Gb switch at work. This machine is a true storage server, I have a Areca RAID card in there with 16 1TB harddrives in a Chenbro enclosure and it has an internal file transfer speed of over 1.4GB/s In other words, if anyone is interested in utilizing OSX as a server for some real performance oriented stuff, this machine looks like its going to be a beast of a file server. Giving iTunes 9.0 and 10.6.1 a try! woohoo!
12. Asus P5N7A-VM

Update: hehe like anyone cares x64 - sound with vanilla appleHDA and alc1200, everything else works fine (i have not done gfx bios flash yet, waiting on-->) except my ntfs-3g driver, which most ppl probably dont use but is necessary for me. fuse kext fails on boot. They will update soon probably. x32 - Alls well, will try removing some extra kexts i have to see if it breaks or not..first to go nullCPUpm that was mentioned to me a page back (heh i didnt ignore you!). I would still have dsmos and fakesmc, so i would try removing dsmos i guess? fakesmc is supposed to be pretty all in one right? or maybe my DSDT already handles all this hmmmmm Ill get back to you on this one. Oh and shut down leaves the fans spinning, so i have to hit the button. Havent tried sleep.

I have a favor to ask...Could someone take a second and upload the vanilla AppleHDA.kext from 10.6? I have overwritten mine and lent my install DVD to a friend... thanks!

Great info here, as always! Just wanted to sum up my current situation for anyone who might be having similar issues, or anyone who knows how to solve them! -x32 mode: Everything seems to work as expected. I have: fakesmc.kext NVDarwin (for dedicated graphics) AppleHDA.kext (NOT the red-labeled one, that seems to be working for everyone else. It kills my audio on x32 and gives me KP on x64..) NullCPUPowerManagement.kext (not supposed to need it but KP without it on boot) AHCIStorage (Orange drive icons otherwise) PlatformUUID.kext (edited for my hard drive) I have tried a few DSDT.aml, from different sources and from myself, they all work fine for me -x64 mode: With red AppleHDA.kext, I get KP as soon as I hit the desktop. With other AppleHDA, I can boot to desktop, but no sound. Graphics do not work for dedicated card, but all I need to do is flash my 8800GT bios. I will do this if I can get sound issue figured out. Many DSDT.aml and none solve the sound issue. Other than some software, everything else seems to work fine in x64 mode. Thanks for the great info!
