my understanding is that xbench IS a unibin

yes, but doesn't benchmark rosetta.. since most apps aren't unibin.. they'll run on rosetta.. therefore requiring more processing emulation power to get the job done..

Wow just benchmarked my IBM R51 laptop..

Score 43.55

I'm impressed esp seeing that this laptop is almost 2 years old.

Good job on the forums guys.. It was a lot of help setting stuff up. Really looking forward to getting a wireless card in this though..

My setup:

CPU: P4 D830 (3.0 GHz dual core)

RAM: 2GB 533MHz

MOBO: Intel D945GNT

CHIPSET: i945G

SOUND: HDA sigmatel 9220

GRAPHICS: GMA 950 CI+QE

NET: Onboard Intel Pro/100 VE

HDD: sata 150GB WB Raptor 1500 (not AHCI)

Results 80.77

EDIT: upgrading to 10.4.3 and using AHCI made the machine a bit faster, XBench score around 85.

Enabling QE2D and disabling beam sync made a huge improvement to GUI speed, XBench score is now around 115

Although I'm not posting any results today I would like to know what difference memory has on the usability of OSX. I've been getting scores of around 74 with 1gig of ddr by enabling QE2D and disabling beam sync and was wondering if it was worth raising it to 2gig

me got 60.26, no additional modifications apart from JaS 4.2b :guitar:

Hi, I have edited my post, above, the first run with Xbench was wrong, i am unable to duplicate that run. My score now is bit better than 10.4.1 with the 10.4.3 upgrade I was running.

Sorry for any confusion!

It is weird, I'll have to look into it, luckily I saved a copy of the high run too.

got a 70 and some spare change.

rig is in the sig.

NOTE: 1 core is disabled. for some reason, osX doesn't like amd x2 procs. booted with cpus=1

try running with idlehalt=0 instead of cpus=1

i am running an AMD Opteron 165, which is basically a beefed up 3800+ and it works like a dream.

Why is the processor score so low with xbench, vecLib seems especially low...I guess apple was right Intel cant compete with AltiVec. The real question is should these xbench results be trusted as accurate? What about some real world benchmarks...I guess it may be too early and not enough unibins for that but does anyone think xbench is cheating us?

Here's mine. A little disappointing to say the least. I notice even as I type this the letters are a fraction of a second behind my hands. I don't really type that fast either, about 45WPM.

I suspect that the low score is partly because of the old HDD that I am using, but even without the disk test, the numbers don't improve that much.

I'm gonna be searching for some information about increasing performance after this post.

System: 8f1111 with Jas Generic 4.2b

CPU: P4 506 @2.66Ghz, (bios shows 20x133, does that sound right?)

Mem: 1Gb pc3200 @400mhz dual channel mode

Foxconn MB 915GL chipset, GMA900, GB ethernet

Can't think of much else

Resolution is set to 1024x768x60mhz colors set to 'thousands'

i got 114 in xbench on 10.4.4

cant run it with openGL though. this time around it freezes xbench.

Me too, doesnt freeze excatly takes agaes to finish, I think it may be an Nvidia issue, I have the 7800GTX

I can see the open GL shapes refresh if I drag the window around when that test is running.

Can you see that too?

yea i just noticed that too.

must have to do with screen res/ overlaying images.

atleast we KNOW that the openGL is THERE, because it is being processed. its just that the videocard doesn't seem to want to detect it during driver installation.
