wuzzle
NVIDIA 9800GTX I got QE-Support through EFI-Strings in the iATKOS-Installation. Do I have to install anything else, to get this card working under JAS? The best method currently seems to be GFX strings. I have full support and only one small issue where it seems to be locked to only 1280x1024x32 at the moment. I hope to figure it out shortly. Luck and if you find any useful information please share so we can all benefit!

But I really need confirmation on which packages to install, because I would like to minimize the reinstalling proceedure (last time - if i recount correctly - I installed iATKOS about 8 times before I finally was satisfied) I really would love to have a description of the packages from the different distributions. vkd
I'm waiting for JaS to upload his ppf fix package so I can update the ISO I already downloaded and think about testing it. I say think as I already got Kalyway 10.5.2 installed and updated to 10.5.4 no problem (except screensaver doesn't come on according to schedule but no big deal.) One other ting is I agree that people should pay close attention when selecting install options, to match everything with their hardware properly. I reckon a major problem is kernel selection, it is better NOT to go for vanilla anything unless you are ABSOLUTELY SHURE ASH SHURE CAN BE that it's a goer on your h/w. Me, I got a flimsy old Gigabyte board with VIA chipset and old-skool AGP but thanx to Kalyway it all runs sweet, EFI and all and of course a hacked kernel for me Pentium 4 CPU. Maybe you all already know that to boot with a different kernel you can name it on the Darwin command line at boot time (where you get like 5 secs to select partition, switches, '-v' etc.) Find out what the names of the kernel's you got at / root on your Mac drive are called and stipulate them there, eg. mach9.4.0modbin or whatever. Vanilla kernel's are about 10mb whilst hacked kernels are about 1/2 that (5 mb). You can find out by starting Terminal in a working installation and 'cd /' then 'ls -l' or use MacDrive for Flindows if you insist on still using inferior Microboff products... OK that's all, except a big THX to JaS for all his excellent work over time. My first Mac OS X install was JaS 10.4.8 which was a real buzz; Leopard is far superior product so here's hoping so will be JaS's first 10.5 release... csir
Gave this a shot last night. Thought I would upgrade from Kalyway 5.2. It worked VERY good straight off. Most things seem to be working great, including sound and CI/QE. The only problem I have come across yet is Ethernet not working. I have a Marvel Yukon chip on motherboard. Checked the right options, all combinations I believe. No luck so far. The other little annoyance was lack of ps2 support which I think is included in the upcoming patch. Edit: Motherboard Abit IP35 Solution: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...mp;#entry245032 In my case I just copied over IOnetwor... from Kalyway 10.5.2 disc backup I had with KextHelper. Working great now :-)
knew know
Just rename your OSX partition to a single word, ie. rename "OS X Partition" to "OSXPartition" and it should get by the NVKush error. If any support for nvidia 7800GTX in JaS?I choose NVKush and see that: Appreciate any help.
scorpioserve
Just wanted to say thanks for all the hard work and to ask if anybody knows of a link or forum that may give more information about each install option, I mean it would be great to click on an item and get a whole story for dummies, im sure I am not the only one who gets to the install screen with about 100 options and thinks hmm now what, I spent about 5 hours on Google to get all of this working and now it works so well, that my wife wants me to update her machine, so now what, another 5 hours on Google cause all the information is so technical and alot of it is guess work by others, I think it would be great if JaS himself added the information into the installer as he must know what it is cause he knows everything. I have found information a little skechy on most of the distro's I have tried except for iAtkos however that particular distro did not work for me anyway. This is just a suggestion or maybe there is someone else who can give all this info Thanks

Kramark
Guys, just wanna confirm. This release doesn't have any intel graphic and i have a gma 900, i tried to install this one but all i can see is black on my screen and when i connect it to a external monitor it says that its out of frequency?? Is the problem connected to the disk that it doesn't have an intel graphics driver or there is something i should try?? By the way we can browse the cd of jas and install directly from it.. Actually it boots i can see the installation process but its like the graphic is distorted and its too big to fit my laptop screen and the external screen i can't click the button that i have to click.. My external screen support up to 1280x1024. Anyone have a solution or should i wait for the ppf of jas??
Hagar
well, topic cleaned to the best of my ability, priority given to posts that contribute information, and making the topic clean & legible. One-line "thanks" posts were also removed, JaS will have read those by now, and your appreciation is noted. Hopefully this will now avoid repeating the same stuff over and over. _azure
joeventura: I'm presently running Kalyway 10.5.1 (with update to 10.5.2 and the ToH 9.2.0 kernel) on a Thinkpad X41 tablet. My install was dying at the same place as yours until I tried the -cpus=1 flag and that worked for me. I'm still downloading JaS 10.5.4. I'll report any boot problems here. WRONG!. Perhaps if you had read Hagars post, he clearly said that "priority given to posts that contribute information" regarding installation. 2. Since this thread revolves around the Jas 10.5.4 installation, I find it only appropriate that this is an ideal place to discuss problems related to this installation! Jas doesn't object to it, neither does the mods. And his information is not "irrelevant"! There are lots of people who are coming to this thread, finding others with the same problems and are able to get solutions! Just because your not using this distro, or not having any problems with it doesn't give you the right to come in here and tell people off! 3. Bug off!
