Whenever I try and boot up using the CD, to start the installation, I get this error:

"Still waiting for root device"

I've read around, and found it could be down to an IDE drive. My DVD-RW drive is IDE. But that's never affected any other installation DVD's EVER!

Kalyways & iAtkos released have always worked.

I've also removed all USB devices, but i'm still getting the same error!

Could it be a faulty disk ?

Can someone/anyone help me?

Why is it that people insist on inserting HUGE images in the post, why not try and keep the thread somewhat clean and "attach" the file rather than insert it. its a high resolution image that's almost completely out of focus... :)

@ The Epic One:

Make sure your DVD-drive is set as Master, not slave. Also check your jumper(s) (don't know if you're using multiple dvd/cd drives?) on your drives. Hope this helps..

Another question for the rest; I've installed this great release on my Acer Travelmate 430, and finally got it to work properly. I've only got one problem, USB devices are not recognized, only when they're inserted before booting. I've tried both IOUSBFamily.kext, but no luck with that. I know it could be kernel-related, but both StageXNU and 9.2.0 Sleep do not solve the problem. Anyone knows how to fix this?

Intel ICH4

Hi. What ítems select in the install (kernel, chipset,,...)?

I have an ICH4 too.

what do i do if com.apple.boot.plist is not found?

can this be because of the guid partition map?

everything went okay on MBR, now there are only 3 problems:

- Azalia says it was installed incorrectly and won't be able to work.

- My processor is recognized as 4.30 (!!!) Ghz Unknown (while it's a 2.8 Ghz Pentium D). This appears on both non-vanilla kernels.

- PS/2 keyboard doesn't work.

Thanks for the reply.. but are you sure of that?

I've also tried to disable the (only) built-in ethernet device from the bios, but it hangs after the "jnl..." lines.

I thought as a graphic problem also because there's no nvinject or natit kext in this release, unlike leo4all.

@ {censored}: It has something to do with IONetworkingFamily, I had exactly the same problem after installation... Maybe it'll be fixed in the PPF :D

@ The Epic One: hmm that's too bad :P . Are you using one or multiple drives?

Ahhh.. this is so frustrating.. the install always freezes when it gets to 9 minutes left. (I've tried about 5 times now with different settings and stuff, also.. Kalyway 10.5.2, iATKOS v4.0i have also froze.)

I have a

ASUS P5B Deluxe

Pentium D 950 3.4GHz

4.0GB DDR2 800

nVIDIA 7950GT 512MB

40GB IDE (Trying to install on this one.)

500GB SATA

I don't get it...

1 drive

Then I've no idea what to do, sorry :)...

Santif; I've selected the StageXNU kernel, no custom chipset drivers - but the Intel ICH and PIIX Controller package in the "Device Identification" section. Don't know if that last package does anything, but it didn't work without that one.

{censored}; Then it looks like it's something else :P, though I have no idea what it could be.

Sorry guys I am scrabbling a bit right now but I should be able to help with your issues soon. I hope to get things sorted by tonight if ppl keep offering support (donations) like they have been. I am also still working on the ppf while trying to get the other issue covered. I am following this thread and seeing what I can find in relation as far as a cause in the installer for each issue being posted.

Thanks Jas, i'd appreciate it if you could help me aswell, as i'm the only one having this problem :(

And perhaps you could share your paypal email, or perhaps give us a link to a page allowing us to donate. Because there's a few donators out there that don't know how to/where to donate money to.

Hey JaS - very nice release (although I have a custom slip for my rig) - good to see you're still active..

I donated you a lil something - and I think others should do, thats obviously a major amount of work you did putting the disk together.

Please toss me a pm when the ppf is ready, i have a few systems to test it on.

Cheers,

One

Hay Jas Just wanted to let you know that The "Still Waiting for Root" error i was getting is gone now. I injected the Nforce ATA driver in the package and it went away now i am getting a "Unknown SIGSEGV Code 0" error. I probally inject it wrong. Something that should be put in the PPF?

Thanks for the Help

sorry for asking this stupid question, but what is a PPF?

Is it a new updated release? Or is it some sort of patch we add to the iso? If it's a patch for the iso, is there a guide we can use showing us how to?

And yeah, shogren, I have the same "Still waiting for root" error.

yeah, a PPF is a patch applied to the ISO.. Its quite easy, just use an app like ppf-o-matic and it'll do it all for ya..

Burn the new patched image and voila!

By the way, I had the "still waiting for root device" error on my leo4allv3 install, and by doing this it worked fine:

Step 1 - Boot up DVD (assuming you have already installed the system and are able to at least boot the DVD)

Step 2 - Open Terminal from Utilities

Step 3 - You need to copy all the ATA kexts from DVD to HDD by typing:

cp -pr /Volumes/Leo4allv3/System/Library/Extensions/*ATA* /Volumes/MacHD/System/Library/Extensions/

Replace Leo4allv3 with the name of your install dvd and replace MacHD with the name of your hard drive volume.

Step 4 - set the permissions for those copied kexts:

chown -R root:wheel /Volumes/MacHD/System/Library/Extensions/*ATA*
chmod -R 755 /Volumes/MacHD/System/Library/Extensions/*ATA*

Replace MacHD with the name of your hard drive volume.

Step 5 - Remove the kextcache:

rm -rf /Volumes/MacHD/System/Library/Extensions.*

Replace MacHD with the name of your drive volume.

Step 6 - Reboot with -f boot blag to force reloading of kexts..

Worked for me :D
