  1. I have found using the same firewire chipset that Apple uses is the best fix for these sorts of issues. They use chips from Texas Instruments. I found a cheap card here: http://www.firewiredirect.com/product/114/ This worked for me on my Firebox External Audio device. Hope this helps!

  3. HP/Compaq 2710p Tablet - Success! With latest release off your blog, installed with OSX86Tools and then all maintenance scripts run and a reboot, the driver came up great. Listed at 10Mb/sec only, but at least I get better speed than wifi only now Thanks a lot!
  4. Logic and other apps working wonderfully here on a Firebox. I had to get a Texas Instruments (the people who created the firewire standard) PCI card and sourced one for $30... Check my signature for the url.
  5. I was having numerous issues with the onboard Firewire chip, and so I sourced out a nice cheap PCI one with Texas Instruments chip instead. Since then, it's been rock solid with Logic and my Firebox. You can find the url to the card I picked up in my signature.
  6. I paused on the laptop while I built up a new desktop which is ripping fast. (my signature) Now I'm rebuilding the 2910p with JaS' latest 10.5.4 cd. still figuring out what should and shouldn't be checked for the install. Much better support for the video now, no glitching. This time out I want to figure out the power management, sleep, etc. *update* I worked on the machine and got the keyboard and sound working under JaS' latest. Now for the rest
  7. Some perhaps. my hp2710p is a dual core 1.2 ghz and it is very spiffy on that.
  8. First, thank you for all the hard work you've been doing to help people fix these little quirks I will confirm all settings from your detailed how-to tonight. I wonder though if you know if these symptoms are part of the issues you do fix: Sporadic disconnects of USB keyboard and mouse or booting and both keyboard and mouse inoperable until they are re-plugged in? Thanks
  9. How can i get firewire to work?

    So don't pay that. $29.95 ... 3-Port FireWire/1394a Professional PCI Host Adapter
  10. The best method currently seems to be GFX strings. I have full support and only one small issue where it seems to be locked to only 1280x1024x32 at the moment. I hope to figure it out shortly. Luck and if you find any useful information please share so we can all benefit!
  11. 9800 GTX working in OSX86

Yes, very glad Do you know if there is a fix for being unable to change resolutions? This is a consistent issue, and it doesn't crash, only shows a blue screen. Thanks in advance for any kick in a suitable direction! ** EDIT** I seem to have found at least a partial fix here. I mistakenly added a few lines to the boot.plist relating to resolution and after removing it I am now in native 1400x900. I haven't yet mucked with changing resolutions since it is working.
  12. Thank you JaS for your determination and hard work (and ever lasting patience with all of us) Tried first run at this release last night after researching parts and drivers after messing around with a little HP tablet for a bit. The tablet, while it works, still has a few issues and not really solid as a portable device. hint: I find a good bet is to always burn the dvd at a slow speed for best reading. The only odd things I'm encountering are as follows: - at boot in the Darwin menu, I cannot seem to pull up a menu of available commands like earlier releases. '?' just flashes and returns to the prompt. It shows no list of kernel or video hints. - not directly attributed to the release, I have to fix my sleep issues which still aren't perfect, and when it does sleep it kills my usb mouse and keyboard, but I'll research this. (I turned off sleep for now) Mucho thanks to aqua-mac for his instructions on getting my BFG Nvidia 9800GTX 512 up and running with GFX Strings Also many many thanks to Allsop for his wonderful guide to the P5E-VM!
  13. 9800 GTX working in OSX86

Aquamac: Thanks very much for the help, I now have my BFG 9800 GTX OC 512 meg card working on JAS 10.5.4 with only one notable issue as of yet. Any time I attempt to change resolution it pops up a clean light blue screen and the only way back is to force reboot. It seems to stick to 1280x1024 consistantly. Otherwise, I'm quite happy in that I just built a nice SSF machine up with a 3ghz C2D, 2 gig ram, 160 gig SATA (testbed) and ASUS P5E-VM HDMI (no i'm not using the onboard video)
  14. Kalyway 10.5.2 and then the Kalyway 10.5.3. I've been leery to try software update since its working 'for the most part'. I too have the calibration way off for the tablet functions. At the moment, that is unusable for me. I've yet to get sound working or showing as a loaded driver I tend to just use an optical mouse instead 441090-001 Wireless LAN module 802.11b/g PCI card V6000 was the one i got. took a bit of wiggling to get it electrically connected. It should show in lspci as 10:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM94311MCG wlan mini-PCI (rev 02) Sleep is not working for me currently. I also find half the time, the video doesn't come up. It shows as a garbled screen. I have to reboot a few times to correct it. Having this issue and unsure if i have to remove some driver or what: Ideas anyone? 15. Greetings all, it's YAN (Yet another Newb) or shall we say, experimenter. I managed to scarf a HP 2710p from work as it was acting terribly under XP, and while passable under Vista Business, I thought to muck about. Tried to get it up using JaS 10.5.x with no luck. Then I tripped over Kalyway 10.5.2 and 10.5.3 update and its up most of the way without even trying. CONS: no WIFI, no Ethernet (both unsupported Intel), there is no 'trackpad' but it has a trackeraser which works, but it seems like the acceleration is way out of whack and does a side step with every movement. No Sound. Webcam doesn't currently work with iUSBCam/macam, but we'll see External devices: It is working well with my Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical 1.1. It is working well with my Linksys USB200M v2.1. It worked well enough with my Transcend 2GB USB drive. When I plugged in my external usb 2.0 sata drive, it appeared on the screen but I couldn't click on anything after that. It basically screwed all USB at that point I have e-bay'd a broadcom WIFI card to replace the Intel one. Overall a very nice start, and not one complaint from me. With a little more elbow grease I hope to make this a viable little machine!
