  1. Thanks for the new info and thanks for all your hard work!!
  2. I created a detailed step by step install for the Inspiron 9400/E1705 if anyone is interested: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=129661
  3. Just as a follow up I have found if I have a USB device (drive or mem stick) installed at power up then the system will recognize removal and insertion of new USB devices.
  4. Are you talking about internal speakers or external?
  5. VMWare Fusion on a Hack?

If your video does not support QE/CI then it won't work. Make sure you have correct video drivers and QE/CI supported I had same problem and right vid driver fixed it
  6. Many have asked what is the best laptop for OSX86? I struggled with that and after doing a lot of research on this site I have found that the best hardware that most people seem to agree upon is the Dell Inspiron 9400/E1705 As of Oct 2008 you can get a good quality 2Ghz Dual Core, 2Gb Ram, 100GB HDD for about $600 USD on Ebay (plus shipping) I have spent the better part of a month installing various distributions of OSX86 on this system and the following is my step by step process on how to get the best results for this laptop. This is a more detailed step by step than you may be used to seeing on this site as most people who post these things talk in short hand, abbreviations, and make assumptions of what you should know or where to find stuff. I provide you all the links to all the threads for all the add ons etc. This website would be of much greater value if others did the same instead of forcing beginners to ask a dozen questions in leiu of you just writing the tutorial right the first time. I hope this helps and I look forward to hearing from you. 7. Sorry but that is what TimeMachine is for.
  8. Installing OSX 10.5.4 On VMWare

Or you can Install OSX86 as your main OS and then run VMware Desktop Fusion to run Windows in OSX Like I did and its very cool!
  9. An incredible problem!

    Try booting with -v -cpus=1
  10. kalyway 10.5.2

Start by turning off the Quad core via the BIOS if you can, Then at the Darwin prompt try installing with the following: -v -cpus=1 or -v -cpus=2 and see if that works.
  11. First you should always post the specs of your system, which are: Pentium M 1.8 GHz Dothan processor with 2MB L2 Cache, 512MB 333MHz DDR RAM, ATI’s Mobility Radeon 9600 PROTURBO with 128MB of RAM, 8x CD/DVD burner (DVD+R/+RW) Problem is that the Pentium Ms are a real pain to get working. I should know I tried to get a Thinkpad X40 working with anything above Tiger 10.4.8 and forget it, it just won't happen. Try JAS 10.4.8 and you will probably have more luck. or do what I did and sell the system you have and buy an Inspiron 9400/E1705 and you will be much happier!!
  12. Yes sadly on the Inspiron 9400/E1705 the more updates I did the worse things got, by the time I got to 10.5.4 things were real wacky so I went back to 10.5.2 and I am perfectly fine there for now.
  13. Well its helpful to know its a known issue so we dont have to wonder whether its a hardware failure. Thanks!
  14. Any idea how to get Firewire working? Is it working on yours?
  15. Anyone have a KExt or instructions on how to get Firewire working on an Inspiron 9400/E1705? I have it turned on via the Bios and the System Profiler sees it but I fire up Final Cut and it says Apple Firewire NTSC (720 x 480) cannot be located
