There is only one way to do this if you want quick, no hassle, no problems and easy to repair. Have a drive with Windows on it running normally. Install Acronis Suite on it and then Install the OS Selector. Disconnect it and attach a second drive and get OSX or Linux or Whatever running on it. Attach both or more drives and boot the system. Get the bios to boot the windows disk first in it's boot priority menu. Your done. If one of the OS's is wrecked it doesn't set you back all the way to square one.

yeah i had to install the mac os x 10.4.6 jas dvd like 4-5 times to actually make my sound work.. 1st try i didnt customize and install so ended up installng amd, sse2, sse3, intel, etc... 2nd time i did but installed stuff i didnt need, 3rd was a clean install but ended up messing with the files, 4th was a clean install with working sound, but i added fm=8 and couldnt boot and messed up my kernel, and my last install.. PERFECT!!! now im starting to get use to the whole mac scene...

Hello everyone, i am new here and i saw this and i thought i would love to do it. Anyway i have an SATA hard drive and it won't appear in the disk utility and then i tried again with a IDE hard drive, well i think it is 1 it the type of hard drive you can use with the cable that has master and slave on it, what are those cables called? Anyway is there anyway i can install this because i really want os x and xp dual boot.

Hi,

first of all, thank you for the work and time you have put into writing this guide.. :D

following your guide, i was able to install mac os x 10.4.7 on my Dell Inspiron 8600

i used grub to tirple boot, ubunto, windows xp and mac os x

the iso i used is

Mac-OS-X-10.4.7-AMD.Intel-(JaS)-ISO-Repack

my laptop specs are:

Dell Inspiron 8600

Intel Pentium M 1.7 ghz

512 MB of RAM

the partitions look like this:

1 primary fat32 - win xp

2 primary af - mac os x

3 logical ext3 - ubunto

win xp and ubunto were already installed before i installed mac os x

let me know if anyone need more details

Mac.OS.X.Tiger.10.4.6.X86-HOTiSO

working

my hardware:

AMD Athon X2 4800........is it possible to do "C&Q...powersaving"?

Asus A8N32 SLI deluxe

2x 1024MB Corsair Ram

Sata Raid-------------------not working

IDE 1: 2x 320GB HD.....install on HD1...OSX...OK...no bootloader..just use bios to boot from Sata raid or IDE.

IDE 2: Pioneer + LG DVD-RW.......OK

Asus X1600pro PCI-E 512MB..............HELP needed !

only 1024x768 on my 20" (LG with 1680x1050) looks {censored} !

via DVI

The borisbadenov_3.2.pkg.zip made a black screen (monitor turns off!) after rebooting OSX.

I saw the driver is for 10.4.7 and I have 10.4.6 maybe that's the reason ?

The only update to 10.4.7 is for intel I saw out...

I think your problem is the SATA drive. Unfortunately, OSX doesn't recognize all SATA controllers. Dig up an ATA drive and install to that.

hey.. my dell got a "160 GB NCQ SEAGATE Barracuda 7200 RPM SATA", and i got osx installed multiple times on it. i was lucky maybe? :censored2:

The specific problem is osx on a nforce4 mobo, like the asus a8n which the user Ram was replying to has. There are other mobos with this kind of problem, but nf4-based ones are 'notorious' (at least from an amd system user p.o.v.!). The sata drives can be read at least; problem seems to be limited to writing to them.

I'm having the same issue as Harvey.

I have a SATA HDD, and the Partitions do not show up. The HDD does, but not the partitions (ie NTFS for my windows installationa and FAT32 (empty) for my MaC OSX installation).

Does anyone know of a workaround for installing on SATA HDDs?

I don't want to install it on my IDE HDD :offtopic:

Thanks,

Ed D.

Could someone help me out here. I have installed fine and applied patches. i have a mobile amd athlon 64 processor, ati radeon 9600, and has se2. It is a emachines laptop, m6811. I am dual booting xp and os x. when i select os x it gos through all the text scrolling then it comes up with a screen that is all scribbled up and cant see anything. i have a video of it on youtube here(

) (sorry for the crappy quality, mde with a still camera that has video). is my graphics card not supported or something? i installed the mac os x 10.4.7 amd-intel jas iso repack. any help would be appriciated. thanks for the time, help, guides and any one who has made this possible.

On the Wiki hardware compatibility list, where everyone should check first, someone with a m6805 managed to get a workable system with the help of a few tweaks. Maybe these tweaks could help you with your m6811.

Investigate the situation, search the wiki and the forum for solutions on similar hardware.

Good luck.

I had success installing OS X following your instructions too. The installation ran smoothly as you mentioned. The only problems I am facing now are related to OpenGL in the graphics card (chess and the screensavers are not working) and my NIC card is not recognized.

My computer is a IBM ThinkPad R40, it has a built-in Intel NIC card that does not work even in Windows XP, that's why I have a D-Link DFE-690TXD card. My computer also come with a internal mini-PCI Wireless LAN adapter that is not being recognized. I have two other wi-fi cards that I am not able to make work either: D-Link DWL-G122 revision D1 and Cisco Aironet 350 series (AIR-PCM350) revision A4. Also, as I am not familiar with the Apple keyboard (command key, control key, etc.) I am not being able to use accented Latin letter like á, ô, ü, õ and so.

Do you guys think that there is a driver available that will make any of my network cards to work?

Do you guys know anything about the OpenGL issue?

How do I map the Apple keyboard to PC keyboard?

Thanks a lot.

Ok, everything was running smoothly and then when i get to the Disk Utility part the only thing recognized was the dvd with the install files on it. I think this is because of the fact my HD is SATA, but i was wondering if it could be something else.

Specs:

AMD Athlon 3200+

ASRock 939 Dual SATA2 mobo

200gb SATA 150 Maxtor Diamondmax HD

1 gb ddr 400

Saphire X1300 plus

NEC DVD_RW drive

Thanks alot in advanced and awesome guide ;) .

Check the wiki hardware compatibility list:

http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/HCL_10.4.6

and go in the table where your asrock939 mobo is listed several times; according to these testimonies, there's some tweak to do with a kext to make it work with sata's. So you might need pata hd for install, indeed.

Check the wiki, search around on the forum for your board.

Good luck.

well...here is my story: first I got the "waiting for root device", next I got a crashed and finally I could not boot on XP or OSx; after a fresh install I tried 10.4.6 myiso and got lucky (before the install I tried jas release);

1st step ...... it hanged on me while the beachball cursor was running..so I had to restart it

2nd ...... stopped working after the install, right after the line that finishes with "maxbaud=11520" or something like this...so I had to restart again

3rd......(im on this step now) finally all went ok and its asking for a keyboard (my laptop one is not recognized) so tomorrow ill get one and let u guys know how it went

guess it will be another succes story after a week on failures

i advise everyone to follow ur guide to the letter and try different images too; dunno if in my case the image helped me or the fact that I did a clean install b4 :poster_oops:

UPDATE: if I not use the "-v" command before starting up OSx it hangs on "maxbaud=11520" ; wonder why?

system specifications : Acer ferrari 4002

UPDATE: why OSx its so slow? not the booting, but the system itself? any ideas how to make it work faster? its like winXp on a pentium II

tried the trick with editing "com.apple.Boot.plist" but the item cannot be moved because "SystemConfiguration cannot be modified" ...so how can I replace it?

Just wanted to say thanks! My gateway m320 is now dual booting up under OS X 10.4.3 faster and a lot more stable than it ever did with windows (It was a bad sign when it crashed out of the box and I had to do the emergency reinstall after 2 minutes of run time). OS X has run for 14 hours straight without a crash at all, and still is going strong. Your guide was fantastic. :poster_oops:

I have a couple of little buggy problems still - like sound and wifi just wont work. Another guy posted here with the same laptop, same problems, and was told to check the links at the bottom of your post. I did that, followed them through, and still I have no sound or wifi. Any sugestions???Anyone???? Link to specs are here, and as you can guess, I am cheap and went for the base model

I get the volume bar up when I move my sound knob, so it found AC97, 2 speakers, but still no sound. In windows runs on IRQ10

so, for the past couple of days, i have been installing and reinstalling endlessly..trying to get vista dual boot with osx on my dell, and its making me nuts. lol

i know that vista is known to hate osx and won dual boot with it.

here's my experience:

first i tried it like it was a xp + osx setup, but OS selector does not support vista, and then i installed osx hoping that darwin would pick up vista, but after i deactivated OS selector, i got an error that says something like no operation system found, something like that...

then i tried to install osx first, then vista. but after i installed osx it wont boot, got an error which i dont remember...and stupid vista won't install on any partition at all when osx was installed. so i had to delete my osx partition in order to get install vista....

then after a couple more of installs and using vista dvd's repair startup tool, somehow i got vista installed along with osx. this time i tried the chain0 method, not working. i also tried to use os selector again, not working neither, neither osx nor vista is bootable!

so now i have vista installed on C:.....lol, any one have any thoguhts on this?

i actually read that thread and this in the wiki

http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Vista_Dual_Boot

but what it said in the wiki doesn't work ( for RC1). and i didn't really understand what sn8k said in his thread. my understand is of his instruction is like: during an xp install, install vista??? :sorcerer:
