I have had the same problem today @ the office. I have a 250WD SATA drive that OSX installer fails to recognize. I guess there's no other way to install OSX but connect a PATA drive.

I'll try installing to my USB-2 60Gb drive tomorrow (I think that m/b can boot off it) and see what happens. If the thing is successful I'll let you people know. :)

when i boot up into osx, at the login screen, a warning pops up telling me that the usb device is using too much energy, and that it will be disconnected fromt the hub. I have an external harddrive, and it shows up in the sytem profiler, but it wont show up anywhere else, and i cant access it. i support sse2, and i am on a intel machine, 1.8 celeron. any help would be greatly appreciated.

can anyone help me with this please

SUCESS!

The only thing Im having trouble with is iTunes, it says that theres not enough memory for it to load.

anyone know how i can fix that?

USB mouse works.

Internet works.

Extra screen works.

everything Ive expected it to do except iTunes works.

Thank God.

Go read the iTunes problem thread: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=27441

Im really not familiar with Rosetta or the PPC stuff, is there anywhere I can get iTunes 6?

I liked that better anyways.

itunes works very very nicely

I got to the screen from which i need to choose the HD

but the box is empty

in the disk utilty i see onlt the dvd drive and not my hd

actually i have some problems... my mouse/keyboard lags? when i type or move my mouse it loads for some reason.. the circle keeps spinning... is that normal? or is there a fix? thank you

ok, big problem.

I reinstalled to get iTunes 6 back, but now when I go to run OS X it just gives me this grey screen with none of the cool menus that I got the first time.

anyone else had this problem.

I tried wiping EVERYTHING on the OS X partition, including making it unallocated space, then reformatting it to FAT32 primary, and reinstalling again, still have the same problem. the load screen (grey with apple) comes up fine, and it even blinks into blue, but when it goes to activate the other monitor, it goes grey, and never comes back.

anyone else ever had this problem?

OK scratch that, it works again, however I still have no sound. it says the driver was installed improperly. is there anything I can do about it?

I think your problem is the SATA drive. Unfortunately, OSX doesn't recognize all SATA controllers. Dig up an ATA drive and install to that.

I have SATA x 2 ...But I am not using them for that...

I actually Trying to install that one on an ATA HDD!!!

Since your DVD drive is recognized, try putting your ATA hard drive on the same cable. Jumper the hard drive as master and the DVD as slave.

According to the manual for your motherboard, your sound is Realtek ALC850 and your network is both Nforce4 and Marvell 88E8001.

Hi,

Great tuturial and everything goes well untill the final step... starting the os!

Just like other I too was having problems with the boot menu (xp starting when choosing osx) but with the tips found in this topic that problem could be resolved.

But now when I start osx I get the white screen with the grey apple in the middle and after that a blue screen with a window with a loading bar. But when it says "starting osx" it hangs.

Did I select some wrong options (or didn't select the right ones) when installing?

I have a dell6000 with a pentium M 1,86 processor and a radeon mobility card.

These are the options I selected:

INTEL BaseSystem

Intel.sse2

10.4.6.Radeon Mobility support

Wireless networking support

sigmatel9220audiosupport

options I didn't select:

10.4.6 combo update

semjaza 10.4.6.intel.decrypts

amd.basesystem

amd.sse2

amd.sse3

intelsse3

soundblaster

10.4.6 gma900.support

I have the JAS edition

Thanx for the help in advance

Anyone know if you can partition the hard drive as I want to if possible install the Myz and Jas versions on the same HDD. I 'found' a copy of iPartition BUT you can't partition on the hdd you are usuing nor will it work via my external USB / firewire drive

With my Samsung P28 no sound no DVD drive but it runs well :-) Maybe the Jas release will give me sound etc hence why I want to try the above. I don't really want to wipe the existing installtion as I've installed a number of progs anyway
