knight, if I am not mistaken, I think the only wireless tha OSX natively supports is their airport deal. *maybe* *nix drivers would work? My ABG wifi on my 710m doesn't work, but the wired ethernet does.

I've found some stuff, but I'm at school right now so I'll try it when I get home. But :( :censored2: I just want it to work.

Hiya guys.

This is my first post, I'm a new member.

I've been dunked in ubuntu for a few months... :)

So anyways, I think you guys can save a lot of time not going through the convert to extended and back thing. I guess you might've thought the 'extended' in 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)' meant extended partition...it doesn't, it just means it's better. So you can save oodles of time just using a primary partition and letting the OS X installer format it. BTW, the VMware thing is because a lot of people don't want to go into their BIOS to change the boot sequence, or because they don't have a DVD drive (like me).

Anyways, the install was great, and I'm using grub to boot it up...I just boot into my ubuntu 5.10 CD and let it install grub (the installed OS thing in grub updates when you reinstall it). So yeah...it's just a misunderstanding with the names. You can let the OS X installer format and install straight to a primary partition. :)

wished that said "Installing Finished"...this took forever...(I installed all the languages so I could get all the characters displayed properly)

though i've heard many people said grub works fine, i've never used grub for anything, so i cant say anything regarding grub. but it seems to me that getting grub to work as bootloader is a much more complicated way than using darwin or window bootloader.

Here's the not so good update. I did a fixmbr to the C: drive and still no dice. I'm getting an HFS+ (sp?) error when I attempt to boot into XP which leads me to believe that Acronis OS selector is still doing some dirty work despite having disabled it. Both the XP and the OSX drive were active the last time I booted into XP. I wonder if that has something to do with it.

Anybody have any advice?

ok, more bad news, i was informed that as of now, there' no way to add windows into Darwin as a choice of booting. Whatever choice you get in Darwin is pretty much not editble.

see this post linky

i will look around some more....

Yay! I finally got it installed. But there are some problems, and I’m not sure if this is the place to post it.

But my sound card, wireless internet isn’t working. And the only screen rez I can get is 1024x768. I want to change it to 1280x1024, how can I change it. And one more thing Acronis won’t let me increase the size of that partion (even though I have lots of space left)

Other than that it works like a charm.

I have the drivers for my D-Link Air DWL-521 Wireless PCI Adapter (Wireless Internet) and for my audio driver on CD, but how do I install it on the MAC?

hey, so you solved your dvd problem? what was the problem?

...so now use the Acronis Disk Director Suite to make an extended partition about 10 GBs from C:...

Im new to this, so, when you are talking about an extended partition, is it any special than a normal partition?

And if I do make a partition, I go through Acronis Disk Director, then click on "Create Partition" on the right panel, then check the button that says "use the free space of existing partitions option", then select the C: hard drive (I only have a single drive), then set up the size of the new partition, then choose what partition type? Active, Primary, or Logical? Then what do I do next? (Also, are the steps that I did above the right way of making the "extended partition").

Thanks.

Here's what I did. I made a partion that is Logical. Then when I rebooted and started installing OSX86, I clicked on the 10 GB partion and (using OS X) Disk Utilities) I clicked erase partion. And what that did was erase all the stuff on the partion and made it the journalled partion. Then I could install the OS.

Anyways that's what I did. And I had no problems installing it all at.

I saved the partition as None, so Mac OSX could format it, but when i boot mac up to install it off the cd, it loads and then a (\) appears on the apple (A circle with a slash through it). When I type in -v, I get a list of words, but I get what i think is an error towards the bottom.

USBF: 58,181 EHCI controller unable to take control from BIOS

USBF: 58.182 AppleUSBEHCI[0x2855000]: unable to obtain ownership: 0xe00002be

USBF: 58.184 AppleUSBEHCI[0x2855000]::UIMInitialize - Error occurred (0xe00002be)

USBF: 58.188 AppleUSBEHCI: unable to initialize UIM

Ok, so new development in my case, im the guy that git the trackpad error. I did some stuff in VMWare, and got OSX to install to a partition, and Acronis acn pick it up. However, when I try to boot it, it says HFS+ error , or sopmething like that. Any suggestions?

No, when OS X tries to format let it do it in jounalled. Then it will be able to install.

However don't flame me for saying this. But after using MAC OS X for 2 days, I'm going to have to say that it's already boring.

basically, dued to speed and ati graphic card limitations, i found little to do in osx also. but i do have to say, even in a hacked environment osx runs much smoother on my pc than win xp. :(

i've never used vmware, even when i first started to get dual boot i didn't even look at vmware.

so now i have a question, what does vmware do exactly to the osx installation? if you install osx in vmware on a partition, does it really install it on that partition? and did you try the chain0 method?

It wont even load up, so I can't format the hard drive. Maybe its because im running a USB connected external dvd drive. I'll try to install it on an internal.

so you got windows on a interal drive and osx on a external?

I got the installation to boot up, and long and behold, a new problem arises. After choosing my laguage, and about to format my partition, the partition is GONE. I booted into windows, and even tried to partition a new one with Acronis Desk Suite, and it will not allow me to. Everytime I try to, it gives me 7.58 to work with-- just the unallocated space. Even when I try to format my C: hardrive, it gives me just the unallocated space. I have almost 40 gigs free on the C: hard-drive, but it won't let me do anything with it. Ugh, I'm so frusterated right now... I've already had to go out and get two dvd drives.

Hm - I've got that DVD, burned it and it boots...

The problem is, that it takes awfully long to load - the laser in the dvd keeps on moving non-stop very large amounts of space making loud sounds.

I get the grey paper with an apple and a looping circle and it takes loooooong then.

Then I get a blue screen, a mouse pointer and..and nothing. The dvd stops reading, the CPU diodes indicate no cpu usage and nothing happens!? WTF could be wrong? I've waitet long (20 minutes?) with that blue screen, but nothin happens - why?

Yeah, OSX ran beautifully on my computer. However I couldn't find anything to do. Looked though the finder sw some pretty cool apps. But I found out that when you use OS X you have to have something to do. And when I'm using Windows even though I have nothing to do. I can stay occupied for hours..doing nothing.
