I have a problem I have done the guide right and everything but when I use the Disk Utility to format the partition that I made logical and FAT32 my hard drive doen't show up, all I get is the DVD drive and I know it isn't he DVD I used in on another computer just fine. I have a AMD 64 3500+ 1 GB ram NVIDIA GeForce 6200 PICe and ATI mobo seagate 160 GB HD. Any help would be appereciated!!!! And I frogot to mention the HD is not a IDE drive but the DVD drive is.

Please guys, i did everything than the tutorial say and after all process i not can boot in none partition, In Acronis OS Selector if i boot with OS X or Windows XP, it return for me. Disk error - Press ctrl+alt+del for restart, This is the second time than this happen after the dual boot process configuration.

Hi add yet another success to the list,

I have finished building a fantastically speedy mac, same procedure as outlined in the forum, but this time I have a system that has full core image / quartz extreme supported

Used the 10.4.6 Hotiso

Processor: Intel Celeron D 346 @ 3.07GHZ ( got it for 38 dollars cdn on sale @ tiger direct)

Motherboard: Intel 915GEVL (this board is out of production but I found a place that had 10 in stock, bought 3)

Note: on the back of the box for this board, it even shows where the TPM chip sits.

Video: Onboard Intel GMA 900 - fully supported !! QE/CI working great, runs nanosaur 2 pretty respectably and my 3 year old nephew loves it.

Ram: 1 gig Corsair PC 5300/DDR2-667 (downclocks automatically to 533mhz fsb because of the proc)

HD 80 gig Maxtor ATA 133 - will soon replace this as the drive prolly won't live long

LG Dual Layer burner for install, this is confusing because the drive says unsupported, yet its fully supported and will burn duals in toast titanium, however i have not tried to use it in idvd

A really ugly 17" atx case that I will replace too, from a gutted older 700 mhz duron box

So total costs in cdn,

117 - board

38 - Proc

25 Heatsink / fan combo

113 - ram

a bunch of old parts - freee (given to me because the owner of the duron had xp, and was told by a sales guy that it wouldn't run xp properly (with 384 megs of pc133) :offtopic: and that he should get a new computer. Which, a week later he's asked me to clean spyware from.... :offtopic:

---------

273 cdn and I paid more for the ram than i had to i'm sure..

everything is fully supported except for audio in, which is a bugger since i like to use the Gizmo Project as my phone.

Also using the Acronis method, but I did not format the drive as logical first, I made it a primary and installed to it, I don't think that step is needed, because it sure saved time not having to convert the drive.

FAILED

JAS 10.4.6 DVD install

Motherboard: MSI 661FML

HD: 40 GB PATA

DVD Player: LG

Processor: P4 Prescott 3.0 Ghz

RAM: 1GB 2x512 DDR-400

Video: nVidia FX 5200 128MB

Acronis Disk Suite 10

Windows XP Professional

After ending all configuration, the two partitions not starting your OS, saying than exists the Disk error, i not able to fix this trouble. I give up in this moment after 5 attempts. :)

HELP!!! I'm SOOOooooo close. I followed the guide - the install seemed to go well (I had to enable sata enhanced mode with pata and sata for the install dvd to recognize the cdrom drive) I used Jas 10.4.6 and I have an Asus P5GV-MX with a P4 3.0gig cpu, 1 gig of ram in the "blue slots" (dual channel)... sata seagate 320gb hard drive and lite-on dvdrom and a lite-on dvd burner (mastered and slaved on the ide port)... anyway, when I try to boot into OS X from OS selector, darwin comes up, I get all the garbled text, but then the system restarts! I can boot into windows fine. I tried using Darwin's bootloader but same thing happens. One thing I noticed after converting partition to Mac OS is: the partition was fat32 logical (before converting) ... AFTER converting, it lists partition as "none" and type as OxAF (ShagOS swap) it is a primary though ... is that right???

Any input would be GREAT !!! I feel like I'm almost there. Did something go awry during the convering? I tried it twice.

OK... a little more info: I've been reading and I see a lot of people talking about how they applied the sse3 patch and the gma900 or 950 or whatever with the jas patched dvd... I did a custom install but the only box I saw was one that said intel/amd patches, but it was ONE box ... it didn't let me choose between sse2 or sse3... did I miss something???

This guide was the best ever! I managed the install of Mac (the JaS realease) using acronis software.

But when I'm starting up Mac osX via os selector, it continues after that grey apple and the wheel, and there is a screen showing: Starting up Mac OSX (normal). Then it just stops. I can move the cursor but the progress bar doesn't move a bit.

I have tried waiting, But several hours just isn't possible... or is it?.. no.

And I am sure that I have the right computer for it. Any help would be appreciated.

I am in the same boat as you, what is this about the sse3 patch? Had lots of problems got them sorted but am having the exact same problem. Garbled text appears screen goes blank for 2-3 seconds then reboots. AAAAAAARRRRRGHHHHHHH, why won't this work!!! :D

looks like a kext problem, try to boot with -x to be in safe mode

Update: It may well have something to do with the fact I installed the AMD Patches as well, LOL. Should really read things before clicking install...

Really strange this, I tried re-installing and for some reason whenever I boot the partition now I get my windows drive :/ wtf? I have re-done this 4 times now but to no avail it doesn't work. What is stranger though that before I make the partition 'Primary' the correct partition boots, yet I get the HFS partition error. ARRGGGHHH (again)

Hi,

Thanks for the great guide! I am using an IBM Thinkpad X41 to try and double boot Windows XP and OSx86.

The install was a bit tricky, the mouse kept not being detected and the installer stopped at the initial blue screen. I knew it should work since before I even adjusted my partitions I did a test run by starting the Darwin installer and it worked perfectly. Anyway, I finally got the fat32 partition created correctly (switched to Acronis from Partition Magic) and the mouse worked in the installer and the OS X installer loaded and appears to have worked.

Then I did the following:

1) Booted back into Windows XP and in Acronis I set the Mac partition to Primary (Acronis calls it a Shag OS swap).

2) Put the file CHAIN0 into c:\ and set the boot.ini with a mac option

3) Restarted, selected the Mac OS and quickly pushed F8 to get to the Darwin boot loader.

4) Darwin boot loader gave me 3 options (I have 3 primary partitions - XP, IBM recovery partition, and the MacOSx86). I select the 3rd partition and Darwin starts to load. I get past the gray screen and a blue screen loads and the system just stops -- just like what happened when the installer kept failing and I thought it was because I didn't have a proper disk partition for MacOS

Any ideas?

Will try it now. But does this have to be done forever?

BTW, the laptop is a P-M 1.5ghz, mmx, sse,sse2

Chipset Intel i915GMS/i910GML

Should I have installed the GMS900 patch during the install?

WOW! That fixed it!

Ok, please tell me there is something I can permanently change so I dont have to have broken paperclip in my vga port? :happymac:

What about if I just disabled in the BIOS the external VGA port?

THANKS!

You only need it to boot up. Should be able to remove it afterward. You can use a VGA adapter instead. But something (like a monitor) has to be there to boot.

You can try the BIOS change, but I doubt it will work. Only takes a minute though.

Just wanted to report another success. A couple of things though:

If you use OS Selector DO NOT USE DISK ADMINISTRATOR IN XP! It will break OS Selector and you will not be able to boot either OS.

Also, the borisbadenof method does not work with my Aspire 5672. This may or may not be related to the fact that I installed the ATI Mobility stuff at time of the OSX install.

There are a couple of steps left out in the guide but it's easy enough to figure out.

Thanks for a great guide!

i heard about hitting the FN-F7 key which controls the external monitor switch. Basically, the moment the screen goes from grey to blue, hit FN-F7 and the monitor blanks out momentarily and then then comes back and boot continues!

When I was in OS X I didn't have wireless or wired networking -- which makes all this sort of useless :happymac:

Any ideas? I saw someone with an X40 said to use the Atheros network drivers for wireless? Person linked to here but I wasn't sure what to do or what they meant?
