ahm... what?

;) just kidding, I understood, but I am not good at French as I am at English, well...

Be careful to use "Chameleon-1.0.11-installer.zip", prefer tu use the boot installer from the UNIVERSAL OSx86 INSTALLER I have posted... Remember, you need pc EFI v9..

The rest should work just fine for you...

maintenant j'aimerais bien savoir si cela marchera:

Retail, as the name shows, uses the vanilla files, no patches, no mods, no workarrounds... I have tested it here before, I wanted to know what installation was the fastest while installed, using Xbench, with vanilla I got the highest score...

ahci is faster, you should keep it on..

There is a topic explaining (link)

Why is it faster, can you explain that to me. I think mine is already fast, quick startup (within 10 seconds) program also start fast or can it be even faster than that.

I think i wil try both, then i can see the diference.

1 question do i need ahci turned on in the bios? My mb doesn't like this i cant get this to work even with vista or other hd drives.

I will post my findings here.

Hi!

2 Ways, using Time Machine and manualy ( boot using the install disk, cd /Volumes/Your Hard Drive , make a backup folder and move everything to that folder)

i'm so sorry, i was so far when i've typed in french because of posting on both language boards.

dear Jimmy, it's so kind of you to answer my query.

you help me so much !

my last question will be : do you backup your install and how ?

my first attempt at a hackintosh. p5k se/core2duo 2.2/radeon hd 2600 pro. it took a few attempts but using the instructions here i got 10.5.6 to install. ended up changing the order a bit - did the 10.5.6 combined update last instead of in the middle and finally all good.

had software core image and no quartz extreme but searched around and found an updated driver for my video card. all good now.

running all apps final cut studio 2 perfectly. no problems with 2K redcam / prores 422.

thanks for the help!

can anyone recommend a firewire 800 card?

i've just replaced my E2140 Cpu by a Q9400 (upgrading the bios to latest 1201) but

in About this Mac i get a "2,67 Ghz Unknown" any ideas on how to fix that ?

does i need to reinstall all my system due to upgrading the Bios even if it seems to works well like that ....

i don't find AHCI option in this 1201 Bios

as i've read it's better for disk access i'd like to enable it.

Probably it is default to ahci, and about the cpu clock speed, install the AppleSMBIOSEFI.kext, it is in the pack...

If you don´t get the correct speed, don´t worry, you can set it manually using OSX86TOOLS

It is only a text displayed, to check your real cpu clock use "MSR Tools" (clock per core and temperature per core) Run it, restart, and run it again...

MSR_Tools rocks but only for 2 core CPU

about OSX86Tool

it doesn't show the right cpu maybe due to my Bios ver (1201).

re-installing kext pack made a lot of issues.

i think it has modified my startup because some apps start alone

after using it.

anyway, it seems that with P5K 1201 Bios there's no AHCI available !

i've seen here that the only way is to downgrade or to use a bad Bios.

as my system is still bootable i'll try OC, AHCI and some other tricks

after re-intalling a clean "Jimmy's way" Retail

I did once... but it happened with kalyway... Haven´t happened with vanilla.. but time machine is working just fine, I have an external 1 Terabyte HD (E-SATA)

Hope you succeed...

Thanks Jimmy. I will do the timemachine full restore later cause i need the basic stuff to work first.

I finally burned the .dmg with a friends dvdr. I followed your instructions and almost everything went well.

Let me explain a bit. I used to got kalyway 10.5.2 working with my videocard. But somehow i didn't write down what i did. (i'm allmost sure it was just NVinject) And after trying to go to 10.5.4 my OS crashed. That's why i asked for the full TM restore.

Anyway i started kalayway 10.5.2 install again but this time i couldn't get my video to work with QE. Only with the standard vga. I don't think i used special device id's in the first place but i could be wrong. I know i used nvkush in 10.5.3. because i can see that in my TM machine backup files.

The problems with kalyway install and now with retail install is that when boot i'm stuck at the gray apple logo the clock stops spinning.

I'll have some things i need to check:

- Bios. Latest for p5k se should be 1104 but i can't find my own version when i open my bios.

- I can't get to verbose mode. Do you know a way to get there? When starting up the boot it shows no bootoptions like kalyway did

- The universal installer picture on a few pages back show different things then i remember when i installed it yesterday.

I think i need to get to verbose mode first. Do you know how to get there with this retail install?

Thanks!

edit: bios is 0304 I'll install 1104!

edit 2: oops. Checked it again and i have the se/epu which means the latest bios is 0501

Well, the enablers (nvinject and nvkush) are not to be used with retail, use the EFI STRING that can be set in the Universal installer choosing your video card from there and installing PC EFI V9

PRESS F8 TO CHOOSE YOUR BOOD DRIVE AND HIT ENTER AN RIGHT AFTER PRESS F8 AGAIN TO GET TO THE VERBOSE MODE.. (MUST BE FAST)

USE THE BOOT DVD TO GET TO THE SYSTEM, AND FOLLOW THE STEPS, YOU SHOULD BE FINE

There should not be a problem, unless you don´t use the EFI sting for video cards, if you use netkas installers you may have some problems.. and never use enablers for video with retail...

About the sleep, I am checking... I also could make it sleep and wake once, for a few times... as I said before, too troubling.... But I ´ll check again If it works here, It may work in some systems and not work in other systems...

Did you follow the complete procedure for installing, did you install any other kext?

Thanks Jimmy but I used the EFI string in the universal installer and selected my 8400 gs 256 card. But it didn't work.

Do you think my display could be the problem? When i had QE working and my card was recognized i used a different display then i use now.

I try the verbose mode right away. Do you think i should use my latest 0501 bios instead of the 0304 i have now?

edit: started in verbose mode. Last line is ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin::start - waitForServices(resourceMatching(AppleIntelCPUPowermanagement) timed out

edit2: The reason why i asked about the display is because in the verbose mode i get 4 lines which say: display: family specific matching fails.

Thanks!

the display: family specific matching fails. msg is normal...

The timeout is also normal...

Well, be sure you don´t have any nvinject or similar installed, otherwise it won´t work, check your com.boot.... plist and see if your device is really there

As the ..GS cards are known to have issues, try using SwitchResX to get your resolution fixed, if you need

Jimmy, I have some questions about this Universal installer. When i open it and follow your instructions my screen looks different than the above.

- I haven't selected Apply kext package. It isn't selected when open the app. Should i select it though?

- Native boot resolution i've set to 1024*768 is that oke? I'm afraid if i set it too high it gives me troubles

- Install Custom Kext from HD isn't selected. Or is this the same as step 10: 10- INSTALL CUSCOM KEXTS FROM HD, RUN THE P5K-SE INSTALLER (link) AND REBOOT WITHOUT THE BOOT 123 CD/DVD!

Thanks

edit: Install Custom Kext files in the above setting in the picture is the same as step 10.

Ok, so your configuration sould be...

apply kext package = NO, you should use the KEXTS PACK INSTALLER (link)

set native resolution = YOU DECIDE, ... sometimes it does not work... default is 1024x768

instal pc efi v9 = YES

apply ethernet efi ... = YES (time machine fix)

apply efi string for video card = YES (choose yours, do not choose any other than yours)

install custom kexts = NO, you should use the KEXTS PACK INSTALLER (link)

Good Luck!

Oke thanks Jimmy. I selected apply kext package = YES. And now it restarted after boot and i'm back at the non spinning 'clock' and gray apple logo.

I did check the com.apple.boot.plist after i run the uInstaller.

It said: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

I've looked but i can't get into the OS. Even with -x it still hangs.

So i'm gonne install without the video strings this time. And do my own strings when it's working with the standard vga.

As I said before, your card is a bit of a trouble :D

Guess solution is here (link)

And again, do not aply any pack ork kext for the universal installer...

Update: It Worked

Ok after some trial and error i finally got to work and found out what the problem was.

The problem i had was a blue screen after the apple logo, first i thought it was a specific kext, but after some trial and error this didn't work. Then i found out that the video driver was another one i always used. So i did everything like the tutorial except the resolution setting, video driver and none of the extra kexts. Instead i installed the driver for the ati 3870 from the Iatkos 10.5.5 boot dvd and nothing else and that did the trick for me.

It booted fine into 10.5.6. Afterworth i could install some kexts with osxtools like ethernet, sound, ps/2 keyboard all from pcwiz website. The only thing is, shutdown still doesn't work, i get the hold power button message. I tried a lot of different workarrounds but still nothing.
