Tested right now with 460GTX 786MB Gainward

Not working

Blank screen afer booting :-(

8800GT working flawlessly

Greetz

If you haven't realized, the GTX 460 is not supported yet. Not the 768MB version or the 1GB version. We will have to wait for mostlikely a drive update from Nvidia for the GTX 460's to work.

Has anyone done comparison benchmarks for the FERMI card in their OSX system?

Im using a BFG 285 OCX, and it works awesome! (little hot tho)

Im wondering the following, does the newer cards Run cooler?

Was it HARD to get the FERMI cards working? Do all apps run smoothly (photoshop, final cut, 3d games in mac)?

How long did it take everyone to get this 100% with ZERO hiccups?

I have an important show and im not sure if I should upgrade.

Anyones enlightenment would help!

vjkevlar,

please look at the screenshots on post one, then compare the xbench score in the ss to your own. if I understand correctly, IF you manage to get qe/ci and resolution functional, there is still vsync and powermizer(as in, the board doesnt step up the clock when the os needs it to) to think of. It looks like gtx480 is the most cut-and-dry solution, but not worth it if its for osx only as you may only be running at the lowest powermizer profile(for instance, my gtx260 smashes the 480's score in the xbenches ive seen). to answer your other questions - on my evga 470, idles are around 70, loads never above 81, and fan always around 40-50%. was it hard to get working? Ill let u know when I get it working(fingers crossed for fishinrocks95 method)... and it appears that nobody has zero hiccups yet(forumers, correct me if im wrong) - from reading the thread alone you can be sure that an upgrade is not going to gain you anything especially if you are relying on it for VJing (likely will take a performance hit until better support comes along)

hope this helps

also would like to note(not singling out vjkevlar), it is accumulation of posts like this that cause threads to become blown up and thus a tough read for everyone - please read what's here before making additions

fishinrocks, good {excrement deleted} homie! i do believe the magic lies in the pciroot of 1 in boot plist generated by that myhack package

Im fully running now with 3d acceleration and dual monitors on my evga gtx470. there is definitely noticeable tearing when moving windows around but cinema 4d and steam games(tf2, etc) are running great. Will experiment further with efi strings, the NVFERMI.Fix.kext(so that using vanilla kexts may be possible), and the provided bootloaders and will post my findings/benchmarks as things develop(or fall back apart)

10.6.5/10H525 geforce driver was updated to version "1.6.20.39 (256.00.05a13)"! yes, R256 based driver :)

this ought to perform way better on fermi cards (nvdagf100hal.kext wasn't included btw), but as always i can't test it right now :( i will do so tomorrow or on monday.

Hey cmf, did you have any success testing the new drivers? Is there a way to find out if a 460 is supported in these drivers?

I mentioned the problem of 10.6.5 on the previous page. There are many errors with NVDAG100Hal.kext and 10.6.5 and I have been experimenting with a fix as it will not load. If you have another 10.6.4 hard drive you can boot from, I have made an installer that installs the 10.6.4 Nvidia drivers and frameworks so you can try 10.6.5. with the 10.6.4 drivers. Let me know if you want this.

Well, I highly doubt that the GTX 460 is supported now, but the GTX 465/470/480's may have gotten a boost with the Snow Leopard Graphics Update that became final today.

Can anyone confirm if this is safe to install?

I'm afraid it will break my working 470.

Well, i tryed the this patch in the developer edition, installed with the installer then added the 470 string in the new NVResman...

I booted but with the 1024 resolution, system info identifies the 470 but i can`t change the resolution, so i think its not safe yet to install it.

But u can try, if it doesn`t work just replace the kexts in s/l/e with the kexts of the first post.

I have been frustrated with this problem for days and i finally have my gtx 470 working at full res!

1. install SL and update to 10.6.4 but dont reboot to install the update.

2. Download the fermi package posted by CMF on page one.

3. install the kexts in the package with KextHelper B7 and then copy the frameworks provided to System/library/frameworks

4. Install the Myhack 1.1.4 bootloader and before starting the install, hit customize and under extra, check the graphics enabler box.

5. reboot ignoring caches and it should work flawlessly. :)

To people with low perf issue:

set you system id to MacPro 3.1 only OR remove AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext

CINEBENCH is 8fps with low power and 31fps with macpro 3.1 or AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext.

Hope it helps.

That's good news. It's some progress, but I can get 30fps with an old 9800GT. I kind of gave up on Fermi support for now.

Replying to myself: when connection a cable the error was:

Sound assertion ""Graphics vendor property indicates CODEC is attached but

Presence Detect is FALSE!\\n"" failed in

"/SourceCache/AppleHDA/AppleHDA-187.4.1/AppleHDA/AppleHDADriver.cpp" at line

3614 goto handler

So it seems there is something missing or the new codec is incompatible.

I'm trying to get SLI 470 working. Not in SLI of course, but just so it's bootable and ideally 3 monitors.

One card works beautifully.

Plug the other card in and boot hangs on no particular message, but will not go to gui, just stays on the verbose boot screen.

Does anyone experienced have any tips or pointers?

Thanks
