I'm pretty sure it's a 900mhz celeron m, not an older, 900mhz celeron

am waiting for the sse3 Merom version of eee in April 08. Leopard tells me it needs 7.5gb to install. How are you able to install with 4gb? I think the QC/CE does not work for leopard!!! (GMA900)

Systemprofiler crashes (need div/0 patch), ical crashes (sse2?), no phtot booth (QC/QE), no front row.. etc. need GMA900 fix first...

Yeah! Customise your install and remove printer drivers, languages, X11...that already saves a lot. Then you can save more by manually removing localisations and ppc code, as well as unnecessary files.

I would recommend uphuck 10.4.9, it has great SSE2 support, works full QE/CI on GMA 900, and it's the smallest OS X distrobution around.

Resolution is not 800x600, it's even less: 800x480.

Using Tiger is like going backwards.. like running Windows 2000, ME, 98, 95 on a notebook you brought today. not good enough for me ... hope some solution for GMA900

I am using a Celeron D Processor at home. This CPU supports SSE2 and SSE3. I've installed and used Myzar OSx86 10.4.6 for some time.

Mac OS X Tiger may be a good fit for the Eee PC due to lower system requirements and support for CI/QE Graphics.

I agree that it's cool, but I think Apple's new tablet will blow the eeePC out of the water; especially if you can touch Leopard. :-)

Without a doubt it will blow it out of the water, its an entirely different class of system.

Sounds a bit silly I guess, but this thing has also had a lot of hacking done to it already.

The Solid State hard drive is non-removable as it has a bga type flash memory chip soldered

into the sata bus 82801 using some sort of proprietary sata to ide to compact flash converting chip.

people have opened it up already and found two available usb headers on the motherboard and

hacked in a stripped down 8gb usb flash drive to each one making 3 available hdd's to install

Operating systems on.

With the default xandros linux on the original hdd, Xp on one 8gb USB flash drive and OSX on the

other it could be quite a nice light little system.

The wireless chipset is atheros so im guessing it would work in OSX don't know about the sound

but probably a ALC codec.

Put OSX on this system and Kismac and it would probably be a mighty fine little wardriving beast.

I am going to pick up an EEE PC when the screen resolution goes up (hopefully when the release the new models with bigger screens). I might just put Tiger on it, but I think Leopard might be a bit much for it.

This could a hoax, but it sounds possible as in performance. There is osx86 running on ultraportables with 1GHz processors. The eeepc looks like the same just in a laptop form, the processor is a celeron-m ULV @ 900MHz and soes support SSE2. I believe it is possible.

The Eee PC is an absolute joke in 2007.

I don't get what the huge buzz is about...The Eee PC is a piece of junk. The only good thing is its tiny size but then again I'd much rather prefer a sub-notebook laptop over the Eee any day.

Their decent for basic internet surfing, and basic media things. But for $300 you can build a basic basic PC.

I would wholeheartly disagree. If you're comparing it to a full-fledged laptop or a desktop PC in terms of power then yes.

However, it is not trying to be any of those devices.

Instead, it's a full-fledged subnotebook that works with a variety of OS' in the smallest usable physical space possible. (Yes, there are smaller but not as usable).

Mine is running Tiger off a 16GB SDHC card w/ Power Mgmt, Internet access, sound and is quite usable at doing what I need to do on the Mac. It has satisified my craving for a Macbook, which is suprising, given the price of the EEE PC.

To compare the EEE PC to a laptop or PC, is like comparing the Smart car to a standard saloon or sportscar. It's a moot exersize. Rather, compare the Smart Car to a 4-wheeled scooter and compare the EEE PC to a PDA (a la Psion 5 or Windows CE keyboarded machines of yore). Then you'll be loving it.

I run WinXP off the SSD main drive and when I'm bored, run a Nintendo 64 emulator and play games using a Xbox 360 wired controller (which all fits nicely in my laptop case thanks to the small dimensions). Plus I get to use WinXP @ 800x600 using a screen hack, and when I need the extra performance, I overclock the thing to 900Mhz (eg handling of watching DVD movies off solid state).

It's also my "portable" MP3 and video player. With my Hauweii modem, I can connect to the internet anywhere without clutter.

The great thing, like an iPod nano is that it has no movable parts (short of the CPU fan), which makes it light, better on batt life, and quick to boot into the OS. I like to think of it as a GPX2 with a bigger screen & a keyboard.

What's there not to like??
