Leo4allv3 finished and released

apowerr

Version 3 of eddie11c's popular Leo4all release has been uploaded to a private ftp, and should appear 'around' shortly. Leo4all is a 'universal' release and works on AMD and Intel. The official release notes are attached, here are the highlights:

First and most importantly is a totally rebuilt filesystem. The advantage with this is I no longer had to script a repair permissions from the DVD. This speeds install a good bit for most people. Don't worry if the timer says some outrageous time, as it does not calculate it correctly. The initial package install is very large and takes the most time, but once its done the install is almost done. I still recommend running repair permissions from Leopard once your all loaded up to fix some errors, but none of these will stop the system from booting. If you run it twice you should see zero errors on Intel and 2 SUID files on AMD. There is an install script that crashes on AMD machines causing this, but to keep everything perfect on intel I chose to leave the script intact.

This DVD now supports AHCI with more than 2 drives thanks to the updated kext's posted by Cyclonefr.

Also fixed this go around is X11 for both Intel and AMD. If, when you close it the first time, cpu usage jumps to 100% open terminal and type xeyes & to fix it. You will need to reboot after, but it should never glitch again.

There is no longer a ./RemoveVideo script, it has been updated and is now called ./options.

ACPIPlatform:

1.1.0 or 1.2.1. Included in each is ACPIPS2Nub to fix PS2 issues.

AppleSMBIOS:I put in lots of choices for different versions based on bus speed if you want it to show your proper memory speed, or if you want your hack to look like a real mac. The default install if nothing is selected is Netkas improved version 27.

Options are:

DDR667

DDR800

DDR1066

DDR1333

iMac

MacBook

MacPro

Kernel:

I have added Netkas 9.2.0 sleep kernel, and 9.2.2 binpatched kernel ny Modbin(Be warned this does not work on all AMD machines! SSE3 CPU is required!). The default install is still Netkas 9.2.0 speedstep kernel. There are also the Stock kernels(vanilla) 9.2.0/9.2.2

RemoveFireWire:

For those that have issues with FireWire, or those that just want to speed their boot time a little. This moves all of the IOFireWire kext's to /FireWire folder in the root of your install drive.

About This Mac:

This is my own little installer to customize "About this Mac" with your processor info. No it does not fix memory speed, you have to do that with AppleSMBIOS. It should work for all languages and should report overclocked CPU's properly.

Power Management:

By popular demand I added the laptop power management bundle to the install. You will still need to set it up in system preferences. This is known to have a few minor bugs. It may not report the proper time remaining or any time remaining for that matter, so use at your own risk. If you select this please do not select an ACPIPlatform, as this requires version 1.1.0.

AMD System Fix:

You will notice it is checked and greyed out by default. To take out alot of user error (people forgetting to check it for their AMD systems) I have added a script to detect the CPU and patch accordingly. When its running it will echo your processor information in the install log (if you show all). It will then skip the patch process if your on Intel or patch if its an AMD. I hope it works well for everyone!

Bootloader:

This option is checked and greyed out by default. It is Dense's script to install EFI and make the partition active. If you already have an existing bootloader (like from Vista) on the same logical drive it will not overwrite it. It will however flag the partition you installed to active, so you will have to manually set your Windows partition active again if needed.

Chipset Drivers:

(NOTE- JMicron is the only driver that always installs so please choose at least 1 option, some will have to choose 2 [if you have Marvell IDE and Intel SATA for example] ) If your not sure you can click all but 1 Nforce, as they will overwrite each other.

Nforce Old - This is the older version of Medevils Nforce(1.0.2) driver. Install this if you have issues with SATA enabled causing a panic. Known to work for some Nforce3 users.

Nforce Test- If you have a SATA DVD or do not have issues booting the DVD normally choose the NforceTest.

SiliconImage3132 - I have not found anyone that uses this specific chipset to confirm if it works.

VIA, SiS, Marvell and SB - Please install this if you are using any of these chipsets. If you have a Marvell IDE drive please install this as they should be supported. I have added many ID's here so I hope they all work! This chioce installs AppleVIAATA, AppleOnboardPCATA and AppleGenericPCATA. Confirmed working for SiS!

SAS - By request I added support for this, as of my writing this its untested. Hopefully it works.

Intel ICHx- If you have ICH7/8/9 chipsets you should install this. This is the modified version by -Dune- to support more than 2 drives and fix the over 2Gigs of RAM panics.

Audio:

These choices have not changed much, only added support for STAC9271 by request. If your not sure what chipset you have, please choose AzaliaAudio(for most HD) or AC97Audio.

Choices are:

ALC850/882/883/888/889

AC97Audio

ADI1988

STAC9271

AzaliaAudio

Graphics Drivers:

I have updated many of these packages.

ATI- there are options for:

3850

3870

2600XT(PCIE)

2600XT(AGP)

3870X2

2600PRO(PCIE)

2600PRO(AGP)

X1600(PCIE)

X1600(AGP)

X19X0

X1400 Mobility

Nvidia- I have updated the drivers to the latest available from the Mac Pro's and edited to include all Device ID's I could verify. This should cover mostly all 6XXX/7XXX/8XXX series cards. (List of ID's found in attached release notes)

NVinject- By request I have added options for different version of Nvinject(0.1.3/0.2.0/0.2.1). If your not sure choose version 0.2.1 with the proper amount of RAM your video card. I have added a modified version of 0.2.1 for 1Gig of VRAM.

GMA950 - QE/CI+resolution change with some artifacts

GMA950 - No Aritfacts QE/CI but no resolution.

GMAX3100 - suppose to give QE/CI(confirmed for device ID 0x2a02)

Network Drivers:

ForceDeth- This is compatible with most Nforce LAN.

ForceDeth-V - This is compatible with most Nforce LAN(recommended version)

Skge - Driver for most Marvell LAN cards.

RTL8187- Just as it says for Realtek 8187

Zydas USB- For the USB Wireless LAN adapter

Tiger IO80211- Some Atheros cards require this Tiger version to work. Default install is IO80211 from 10.5.2

Broadcom- WLAN driver for BCM4306/4309/4318/4320/4324

RT2500- Suppose to support Dlink WMP54G v4.0, may support some others.

ViaRhine- Just as it says, for ViaRhine chipsets

Intel 100Pro VE- Just as it says, for the Intel 100Pro VE chipset

RT2860- Driver for some chipsets like WL-181, may also work on some others.

Good Applications:

You can choose to install or not, but I do recommend many of these useful programs. They include:

Adium

AppZapper

BBEdit

CandyBar

Colloquy

FireFox

Gumby 50c

Invisibles

KCNScrew

KextHelper

Marvin's AMD Utility

MD5

Pacifist

PackageMaker version 2.1(old harder to find)

Stuffit Expander

Textmate

Transmission

TubeSock

Unison

VLC

Xbench

The Official Leo4all Wiki can be found here.

The mentionedAbout This Mac CPU information installer is an absolute gem! Thanks for all of the hard work eddie11c: I can't (and I know many of you can't either) wait to try this out :thumbsup_anim:

Query #1.

Almost there. Everything is working apart from the filthy net.

I'm running an Asus M2N-SLI Motherboard (with NVIDIA nForce 5 chipset for lan).

Forcedeth didn't work so I'm asking you guys for help.

Query #2.

Has anyone managed to get Leo4all V3 running on VMWare? There's alot of screengrabs around showing this off but no one has posted instructions on exaclty what settings/modifications you need to make to the VM config file for it to work. (oh and I'm running Vista x64 so this would further complicate the process I guess).

Alot of people would just love to run Leo4all on VMWare I tells ya!

Ta.

Booted with everything supported but audio (simple hda patch) for me and my badaxe 2 q6600 box, only issue i have is that about this mac and profiler both display my cpu as stock and do not correctly show the 3.01 ghz and 1336 FSB overclock.

Geekbench sees the cpu as 3.01 ghz so Im sure it is fine, would be nice if it displayed correctly though.

Im having a rather wierd problem after installing Leo4allv3.

Downloading went fine, no problems, burning the disk, no problems here either, setup. easy...

installation nr 1: 100% default.

installation nr 2:

vanilla 9.2.2 core, x1400 video, sigmatel pack audio, laptop powersupply.

After installation i restarted my laptop. an BOEM EPIC FAIL. (installation nr1 & 2 gave this error)

No bootalbe devices--strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility

press F5 to run onboard diagnostics.

I checked if the right partition was flagged as active, it was correct (htf). Any tips / hints =/.. i dont even get to see the darwin bootloader.

I tried formating my pc, installed windows xp, than installed ubuntu, (grub gave me an fatal error, but what ever.. i dont use linux that much).. after that i installed mac... and got the error again o.o...

Anybody know whats goin on?

formated pc... installed windows, than mac, no errors... mac as active... Still same error... installed ubuntu again, wtih bootloader *grump* still same problem.. and still no solution ;)

If the other OS's are on the same logical drive you will have to use another bootloader to do this. The bootloader for Leopard won't overwrite an existing, but it will still flag the partition active. Flag your Windows partition active and use it to boot the Leopard partition.

Great release, it's running rock stable now. Though there's one thing that bugs me; sleep. I'm using a Gigabyte P35-DS3R, with 8600GT (newest nvinject) and sleep is just not working. My computer turns off instead of going to sleep. I've tried both S1 and S3, and all available sleep modes in OS X (now running default 3), tried different kernels (netkas 9.2.0 sleep, vanilla etc), but still no luck. I just know this config has the abilaty to sleep, because it did once on kaly 10.5.1

Any fix for this, what could be causing the shutdown instead of sleep?

Thanks a lot, eddie. It installed and booted and loaded everything after all -- that is to say, iATKOS couldn't boot properly, but would freeze with "devfs_make_node: not ready for devices" message when first booting the installed system.

I have ASUS P5B with Nvidia GeForce 7800 GS.

Works with Nvinject and doesn't work without it -- freezed at booting.

Even though I tried adding device id to the appropriate *.kexts, nothing would work until I installed Nvinject(from the Leo4All DVD) after some RTFM-ing.

Shall try now the AppleHDA patcher approach to make the ADI 1988A audio work and will report the results.

It says there on the Taruga wiki that it might work on ASUS P5B.

Oh, nearly forgot to say a few words about the downloading/unraring of the Leo4All torrent.

It works OK, guys; just one needs to use the right unrar utility.

I downloaded under SUSE10.3 linux and used Rarlab's linux unrar utility -- a trial command line version. I have several times experienced it when the linux GPL-ed unrar couldn't unrar the files created with WinRAR. So I considered using the vendor's unrar and it really worked for me.

You just unrar the *part01.rar and it will process all the rest of it, so you get your *.iso at last.

So remember: use the Rarlab's unrar utility (get it here -- http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm).

I guess this is a dumb question, but if we have a system installed, and everything is working, should we still install this? THe only things not working on my laptop are sd card slot reader (haven't even tried to fix that, not a priority) and my scrollbar slider on my synaptics pad.

...and if so, does it have to be a fresh install, or can we install "over the top"?

BergerKOS and others,

Within the macOS, UnArchiver did NOT work but UnRarX has unravelled the rar files properly. Toast has rightly burned 2 DVDs. Yay!

Those with a Dell e1405, do you remember what you selected during the install. That would be helpful (or post at the WIKI). I swapped in an Atheros minipci wireless. Which has only worked with Uphucks tiger and Leopard offerings. Of all the DVD's I like the Uphucks 10.49 1.4ir2 best. Pehaps this 4All disk will kick*ss...

All the best to you all.

@mauseman

Did you patch with Taruga's AppleHDA patcher? Usually, unless your components are fully supported, you have to do a sound patch with Taruga's patcher.

Is installing the video kexts from the CD recommended or do you do so after the install of OSx86?

I had a version of Kalaway installed and ran some Terminal commands after the install to get my video card to work and now I get a kernal panic and cannot boot into the OS, so I don't want this to happen again.

Hi there,

First of all I would like to thank eddie11c for this fine release, great job here! Osx is getting every day easier to install and more compatible. :)

Here's where I stand with this new release.

I've installed the leo v3 on my system. Everything works just fine exepet for this. It boots ok but when it comes to restarting or shutting the system down I often get black screen with a bunch of text ending server shutdown. It won't shut completely or restart.

I installed vanilla 9.2.2 kernel with ati x 2660 xt driver and apple mbios's default nektas

any hint on how to solve this?... this release is really great for me since the lan works fully on my badaxe 2 now without a stretch.

What version of ACPIPlatform did you install? I have problems with restart/shutdown with the stock platform, but works great with version 1.1.0 or 1.0.3.

Going great here.

Using Kext Helper (had to paste its code into Terminal as it wouldn't activate root user) and my former backup of the IO80211Family.kext, and upon replacing this, Airport popped up as "detected", it wasn't at first- though I selected that text in the install. Airport switches to off upon restart however. ?? How can one seal that permanently?

These two things could be improved/added with these Leopard revisions.

Sigmatel 9200 wasn't there either.

Loving it now though. I keep telling people to buy a mac and why....

Also, UnRarX was the only decompressor that worked. Onward...

I am still having boot up problems. Sometimes it boots to 'waiting for boot volume with uuid .......'

other times it stops on 'appleacpips2nub startup complete'

Sometimes it boots up to the login screen but the keyboard doesn't work.

Generally it takes about five or six tries to get a successful bootup. I'm wondering if this has something to do with having two partitions with Leopard on but a similar setup on my other laptop works fine.

I pretty much went with the defaults during install, so as to have speedstep, went with powermanagement too, both seem to be working though the fan is pretty active. Acer 4720z, intel dual core, gma x3100.

Anyone know a solution to this one? :)

Downloading now.

Eddie: If you are planning on a Leo4all v4, perhaps it would be a good idea to include the nForce fix for nVidia graphics cards. I've not been able to make this work even once. I'm probably doing it wrong, but if you could include that in a future release I would love you forever :(
