JaS OSx86 10.5.4 Client Server Intel SSE2 SSE3 released

apowerr

JaS's latest DVD comes with the following release notes:

Finally after much hard work and effort, repackaging / cutting driver to have the most stable release I could, along with months of hard work my version of OS X for Intel based systems is ready. This release features upgrading from the customize installation menu along with StageXNU (SSe2 SSe3 kernel thx everyone in xnu-chat for keeping older hardware alive with this great kernel) , NVKush (thx Diabolik) , chameleon (thx zef & Kabyl), SMBIOSResolver (thx Superhai), SMBIOS (thx iGuru) The whole range of Radeon HD Series drivers (thx netkas and lastExile). HDA drivers (thx Taruga) Along with the standard drivers usually found in other leopard install dvds. This release does not include any apps/mods to the UI. Also this is a OS X 10.5.4 Server (thx for the packages f41qu3 and SJobs) / Client installation dvd. Installation of Server will require a valid serial that I have not included. The base for this release was built with slipstream (thx Dense). DVD art by Realityiswhere.

Thanks to everyone over at irc.osx86.hu , irc.moofspeak.net , hackint0sh.org , insanelymac , and osx86scene.

Remember the point of this is to have some fun and learn a bit if we can. Also to help each other out, remember " no one left behind that can be supported" this is our motto and our creed.

JaS's releases are renowned for their high quality, and no doubt this one will continue the trend. Good luck installing everyone, I know I can't wait ;)

EDIT: Got a screenshot of the Installer options, looks very complete with a plethora of drivers. Nice work! -REVENGE

I am also getting the same error when I try to install on an ASUS P5KR.

Does this has something to do with the mobo?

I am not sure why the basesystem would fail, I could understand maybe a package, when you boot into the installer open the install log its un the finder bar under window--> install log and get the exact info on what failed and what packages were selected please.

@JaS

sorry to bother you i know your busy helping others out but i'm running into a problem with my attempt to run OS X on my computer. Every time i Install it, it keeps on hanging when it starts to install the 10.5.4 combo update.

I'm running a GA-EP45-DS3L ryt now i'm guessing that since my mobo is recently released there's not alot of support for it. I could get kalyway 10.5.2 running perfectly tho....any help is greatly appreciated

This will be added in the ppf that JaS is making

It is a amd package that has a script in it to patch the cpuids and decrypt the apps

Just a heads-up: it seems that both Forcedeth packages (Forcedeth and Forcedeth-V), while referenced as options in the installer, are in fact not present in /System/Installation/Packages/Patches. Potential point to be fixed in the PPF.

I injected Forcedeth-V.pkg from the Leo4Allv3 disc and am now attempting to reinstall; will report back.

Also had to inject AppleNForceATA.kext from Leo4Allv3. That might be another thing to consider including in the PPF if it can be done at this late point.

I really hope this Jas release will be work flawless on my machine, with all those patches. The only other release that's worked well on my machine is iAtkos v4. But i'm still plagued with the nVidia Nforce 680i ethernet problems, which I assume wont get fixed anytime soon. I tried the the kext found here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...e+ethernet+680i I boot with -f but i'm getting kernel panics and random freezes.... on heavy loads.

But the person who made it has never been online since, last time he was online was when he said he was working on one for 10.5 :S but he hasn't been online since god knows when. Would it be possible to update that kext for 10.5?

Any cheapo Realtek 8169 Gigabit LAN card will do. If you have a PCI slot free, these are about £3-7. PCWorld does a generic one for about £6. It will cost you about the same from Ebay or online due to postage. I have seen a PCIe equivalent in Maplins, but this was closer to £25.

Hi, very good, cheap and proven is Edimax EN-9230TX-32 (PCI, RealtekRTL8169S-32 Single Chip) - working for me long time without problems... http://www.edimax.com/en/produce_detail.ph...=2&pl2_id=9 ... But there should be a lot of another cards like this...

thanks alot guys :D:unsure: hopefully now I can put my ethernet woes behind me :(

@Jas:

I dont know if you read my comment about, ATI 2900 card, the driver is intalled but ATINDRV has permissions issues, requires booting with -x otherwise screen gets scrambled! Just to let you know..

Also if you add chameleon boot loader as an optional PPF, would be nice for many people as majority of intel chipset questions regarding plist not found issues are related to bootloader...

Here's a follow-up picture to the problem that I am having with the original JaS 10.5.4. When I boot up this is what I nearly immediately get, and the computer freezes at this point. I've tried all kinds of different settings in the BIOS, and the result is always the same.

This is a Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop with a 2 GHz Core 2 Duo chip, x3100 graphics.

This may or may not be related, but iAtkos always boots right up, and the two Leo4All versions I have tried (v3 and v3 with JaS 10.5.3 PPF) will boot sometimes, and sometimes they don't. About 4/5 times of trying to boot from the DVD, I'll get a kernel panic. But without changing anything or doing anything differently, sometimes it boots from the DVD just fine -- I have absolutely no explanation for this.

Thanks for looking :-)

Gma is already planed, pm me a link with any other driver you would like to see included. That goes for anyone.

Hi, I am with you on this one, the current distribution boots - but fails with a blue screen.

I haven't tried it (because I can't find any Leopard dstrib that correctly installs) but here is the driver for GMA900

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=119422

Generally speaker it would be great if we could have a way to open a terminal before the distribution switched to GFX mode.

This will give us the oportunity to deploy new drivers...

Cheers,

Jas, i hope you got my pm with the links for GMA 900 and intel wireless..

Hi there, I believe we are in the same boat with GMA 900.

I sent this link in the forum

Curently looking into rebuilding the JAS DVD with this kext bundled in.

Cheers,

Olivier

That's an awesome new driver! I had working QE/CI with the GMA900 before, but by installing everyhing on that link i don't need to use the paperclip anymore!

JaS mate, if you can add that to the PPF it'd make things a lot simpler at installation :( I'm holding out on using your DVD only coz I wonder what goodies you've added to the PPF hehe...

Again, i guess i'll need to make a fresh installation yeah? Doubt i can upgrade from my working 10.5.2 installation?

You're AWESOME JaS! Thanks for all yer help and support! If I had a PayPal account i'd be donating like a b***h, but for now i can only offer my support and my thanks :)

What's the best SMBIOS option? I'm a little confused by it, because of the SMBIOS Resolver application, and the fact that all the other SMBIOS options are showing 0 as their size. Am I supposed to chose the resolver and something else?

Actually, you don't have to select the resolver; I would suggest the MacPro option for desktops, and the MacBook version for laptops/notebooks (I use the MacPro SMBIOS, despite having a Northwood-C [sSE2!]-based Hacintosh).

I've got this same problem  Exact same LAN chip, I selected the Skge driver and the Marvell Network, and I still cannot get it to recognize my ethernet port. Makes me sad because this is such a great release. I've tried using other releases Skge driver's, and no luck with that either. I'm confused because I've never had a problem with this until this release.

Been a lurker long time... I have really learned alot and have enjoyed the journey too.

I am running a Biostar P4M80-M4 Socket 478 Intel 2.4. It has as well an EIDE 500GB hard drive. It is actually a refurbed eMachine! I was able to install and am running JaS 10.5.4 now. I had been running JaS 10.4.8.

Installation required several attempts, but after partitioning the drive with one partion and GIUD as an option, I ran the installer with the AC97 audio and the Via Rhine drivers. I did not choose a video driver. This MB is AGP onboard and 'cause I'm cheep I don't have a another video card. After about 30 minutes the install completed and the reboot took place... WOW.. it works! I had a few issues... audio playback just a touch fast... switched to SPDIF in MIDI and it slowed down to what it should be. Repaired permissions and rebooted to be sure and it is still working... cool!

noob question... is this install using EFI? Can I safely use the Apple site updates without breaking anything?

Thank you JaS for your determination and hard work (and ever lasting patience with all of us)

Tried first run at this release last night after researching parts and drivers after messing around with a little HP tablet for a bit. The tablet, while it works, still has a few issues and not really solid as a portable device.

hint: I find a good bet is to always burn the dvd at a slow speed for best reading.

The only odd things I'm encountering are as follows:

- at boot in the Darwin menu, I cannot seem to pull up a menu of available commands like earlier releases. '?' just flashes and returns to the prompt. It shows no list of kernel or video hints.

- not directly attributed to the release, I have to fix my sleep issues which still aren't perfect, and when it does sleep it kills my usb mouse and keyboard, but I'll research this. (I turned off sleep for now)

Mucho thanks to aqua-mac for his instructions on getting my BFG Nvidia 9800GTX 512 up and running with GFX Strings

Also many many thanks to Allsop for his wonderful guide to the P5E-VM!

Hi there,

Thank you Jas for this release. I'm already looking forward to install it onto my hackintosh

I would have one request though... Could someone point me the right packages for the following Configuration? I really aren't that certain which packages fit my current spec...

GA-P35-DS4 (Rev 2.1)

  • Which ACHI/ICH9 drivers should I select? There are many diverent drivers - what is the difference between chipset and device-identifications? Is secondary only for displayed information in the system-profiler?
  • Wich audio-drivers should I select? I used to have HDAEnabler.kext and AppleHDA.kext running well with my last installation. Should I go with Azalia-Audio or select the ALC889-package? Or both?
  • Wich Network-Drivers should I select for this mainboard?
  • Wich SMBIOS should I use?

ASUS WL-138g V2

On my iATKOS-Installation this card was recognized as Airport Extreme. Do I have to select any drivers for this card?

NVIDIA 9800GTX

I got QE-Support through EFI-Strings in the iATKOS-Installation. Do I have to install anything else, to get this card working under JAS?

Are there any other Packages, which could be suggested for my installation?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Cheers!

The best method currently seems to be GFX strings. I have full support and only one small issue where it seems to be locked to only 1280x1024x32 at the moment. I hope to figure it out shortly. Luck and if you find any useful information please share so we can all benefit!
