I see that others have had success so I'm hoping that I can get a little bit of assistance. Unfortunately a few of the nvinstaller packages that I've tried not only fail in that they result in a kernel panic, but many times leave the system in an un-bootable state. Fortunately I have a full backup so it's easy enough to get back up and running. Oddly enough I was able to get a friends EVGA 8800 up and running and no time. Thanks all I appreciate the help! I have a Gigabyte 8800GT with a Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS4 running Leopard 10.5.5, so lack of QE was disappointing. But 20 minutes with your guide and all is well. Then I have to navigate to where the dock should be and an icon on my dock with display. Then I have to open an item on my dock to start getting bits of the screen back. Any fix for this. Also system profiler is giving me this message: Display Connector: Status: No display connected Everything else seems to work. Running an 8800GT on a GA-EP45-DS3R with an E8500. I had a very stable 10.5.2 system and recently I upgraded to 10.5.5 but in doing so I lost sound and QE/CI. Sound I was able to recovery quickly and I’ve been busting my brain trying to recover the full use of my EVGA 8800GT 512. I tried a few different methods and nothing seemed to work. Next I installed Chameleon for hard disk with success!!!!! leopard still able to bootup Then I follow this guide to add GFX-EFI Strings for my 8800GT 512 display card During bootup ,the system loading a while and it will go in standby/sleep mode automatically ( The LCD monitor led turned in amber color Any thing wrong with my steps ? or some missing steps I was missed ? tanyildiz Posted November 7, 2008 Share Posted November 7, 2008 thank you so much for your hard works! i did what you wrote in the tutorial. but i couldn't any result. when it goes to desktop, it shows nothing but black screen. and i tried to put the files back to original places. but again black screen. i used the kalway 10.5.2 DVD to boot and went to Disk Utility. after repair permissions, everything starts to work like you said. there may be another people, who were experienced this case. it could be fine to add 'repairing permissions' part into your tutorial. thank you again! Regarding the Video the system will not boot with a wrong string, and will just throw a kernel panic. Also there are alot of video cards out there i dont think its doable even if it is possible to make the system boot with a bloated com.boot file. HaTaX Posted January 17, 2009 Share Posted January 17, 2009 I had iATKOS v4.1 installed on my desktop and used the iATKOS v5 disc to goto 10.5.5 and then upgrade to 10.5.6. When I was going through making sure things were working well, I noticed Quartz Extreme was disabled. Off I went on google and forum searches looking for what works in 10.5.5+ with my 8800GT, I figured there couldn't be too much magic as it was a pretty common card, and I had gotten it working with no trouble on an obsecure Quadro 300M chip. Tried nvkush, injectors, EDID methods, editing my own kexts for EFI support.... None of the how to's out there would get QE enabled on my card. BUT! The help in this thread worked PERFECTLY! I noticed a difference in the "in.plist" XML files listed here and offered in other threads and sites, the cyclonefr.plist had quite a few more entries and was formatted differently then the other files provided. Those extra lines made the difference as I followed the same procedure using other in.plists and they plain did not work. Thank you again for the time put into this! For the record this is an iATKOS v5 install with the vanilla kernel, nvkush was selected at install only because it worked perfectly on the laptop with the Quadro. Intel P35 system with an E8400 CPU.
