Johnny V
Yes FromMac2Hack! As mentioned to fix the audio I just had to reapply PCWIZ's installer a second time. You video card should be fine... The DS3P was my first choice but decided to go with the ex38 for future proofing...but now wish I had the 8 sata ports of the DS3P. Congrats! Kronoid
Yep I have DVI working on my 8800GT. The proper DVI port is the one that is closest to the motherboard...are you using that port first? My video card actually only has one DVI-D port. Then it has a VGA and a S-video out. Unless I misunderstood your question? installed NVInstaller v.41 (after everything was installed via PCWIZ's tutorial.) I'll be adding a VGA monitor later today...so wish me luck! Bad news. I downloaded that and installed, restarted and got a black screen. I left it on for like over 30 minutes and it never worked. Then I tried restarting over and over with different monitors. With my DVI only, then with my VGA only, then with both and it didn't work. Then I gave up and re-installed OSX again from scratch. And here I am again, connected to the internet on a fresh OSX install but still without a video graphics driver. Any ideas? Thanks again. Johnny V
Geez sorry about the black screen with the 8400GT. Didn't know the card had one DVI and one VGA port. Try a search for punk92 installers...might have better success. OK go here for the punk92 Nvidia 8400GT drivers...but read to make sure! http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=78980 As an aside, the forum's search engine is really stupid awful. Not sure why but took me weeks before I figured it sucked the big one. But anyway I usually just do a google search by placing insanelymac.com with word or phrase I want to find. An example: "insanelymac.com 8400gt", of course with out the quotes. Do you think the fact it has only 1 DVI and then a VGA is part or is causing the problem? I will search for punk92 Nvidia installers. But is there a way to back my system up or something so if it doesnt work I dont need to install everything again fresh? By the way, this is my first time using a Mac. Im a clueless Windows user. By the way, its a 8400 GS rather than 8400 GT, if that makes any difference. Thanks John. kinkster
Okay I solved that problem by hooking up the hard drive the to the cluster of SATA ports that the CD drive was hooked up to. They come in two sets of two. Got it all installed, with GUID. Now on rebooting after the install its bringing me to the normal apple logo and spinning white thing, but then Im just brought to a blank unchanging grey screen. Im using an ATI 2600 and i did check the NATIT ATI drivers in the install. Im using a DVI connector. What should I do? Can anyone please give me some advice? all the same is true from my above post, but now I've tried doing a "-v" boot, so it would show me the diagnostics. Not its showing the following again every couple of minutes: Still waiting for root device. Still waiting for root device. Johnny V
No problem John. You were just trying to help.Do you think the fact it has only 1 DVI and then a VGA is part or is causing the problem? I haven't read anything on having one of each a problem. I will search for punk92 Nvidia installers. Check my above post with a link to punk92 installers. Also my tip to avoid using the forum's search engine and use google instead. But is there a way to back my system up or something so if it doesnt work I dont need to install everything again fresh? By the way, this is my first time using a Mac. Im a clueless Windows user. Thanks John. Well I got myself into trouble last night when I tried to install Vista. It ruined my OSX install and I didn't have a backup. All the files were there but I could not boot off the OS system. I was able to install a fresh OSX on an empty drive and use the Migrate Assistant Tool (in the Applications> Utilities folder) to move most of my Apps, system settings and files over. But I learned my lesson about having a backup. There might have been a way for you to boot up in bios or Kalyway disk and remove the offending video driver without a reinstall...but I'm just new to this stuff...I'm sure the info is out there. Anyway I'm working on my perfect system then I'm going to clone it to a separate hard drive partition using SuperDuper! The unregerstered version will let you clone a bootable system. kinkster
Thanks for helping me guys. not. anyway I got it fixed by not installing the ATI drivers on installation. Richn
Video Card seem to be working fine. However sound is not working. I read somewhere that if the sound is not working that could cause it. How can I tell if the sound driver is configured correctly. Richn
Well after reading my post last night, I can see how tired I was.... Let me readdress my problem and let everyone know my solution. After I installed everything according to the guide I had just about everything working with the exception of the video from CNN and the YouTube. I did alot of research (googling) and found a post that had the same problems. It said the solution was to get the audio working. After sitting and thinking awhile I realized I was just taking for granted that the audio was working since I hadn't hooked up my speakers yet. Before I hooked up the speakers I did some more reading and found out that sometimes using the installer that the audio doesnt work and you need to rerun it so, so that's what I did. And bam the videos were working now, however I still had no sound. I then connected up my speakers to the out connector and no sound. I then went and looked at the audio section of the system preferences and ensured that the sound was setup to use the line out. Yep! Still no sound ..... While playing aroung I happen to click on the internal speakers and I had sound. Super!!!!!. So I now have a fully operation system with the exception that shutdown and sleep doesnt wwwork correctly yet but I can live with that for the time being. I loaded up VMware Fusion and then installed Windows XP and it ran great!!!!!! Here is my system configuration: Mother Board: Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3R LGA 775 Intel P35 Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Quad-Core Hard Drive: 160GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s RAM: Corsair 4x4096MB PC6400 DD2 800MHz Graphics Card: GeForce 7300GS 256 MB Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/90795-guide-installer-leopard-gigabyte-ga-p35-ds3pds3rds4-1052-efi/page/33/#findComment-773528 Share on other sites
Johnny V
Congrats Richn on getting everything working. FromMac2Hack
This guide was very helpful. My system is awesome and working pretty darn good. The only problem I'm having is that the computer won't actually restart. I'll click "restart" and the screen goes black, but the computer doesn't load up the BIOS and then go into OS X. The weird thing is sleep and shutdown are working fine (I used the kernal in the installer)! So it's making installing the sound drivers a bit of a problem. Any ideas?
