Yet another source to the "3 hour" battery claim.

Actually, this one says 2.5h...

Tisk tisk.

That battery life is pathetic, really. The MBA isn't *that* portable (in terms of battery life). Plus the battery isn't user replaceable, so you really can't take it places.

I get about 4 hours with my MBA with the brightness turned down pretty low and wifi on.

All I can say about it right now is... I love it!

And it's speedy, really, really thin, and has great thermal management. I got it three days ago, and I haven't fully put it through its paces, but so far so good!

SSD isn't worth the extra 1300$ for almost no performance gain.

People have to be crazy to pay that much for a measly 55.5GB :D

However, the SSD aside, everyone buying a MB Air is very happy with them, even one guy who got rid of his MacBook for one and he says he doesn't miss the MacBook at all.

I wouldn't be able to have to have an Air. I only use laptops and as just about everyone has said, this is a complimentary system to another compy. Why have two laptops? That's just redundant and not bright.

I get the same battery with the brightness all the way up on my MacBook, though.

It's a nice looking design, none the less. That's good to hear that you're enjoying it!

not yet !............................

ssd price is still high,...

cpu's are still hot,...

first, I'd want to get speedstep, throttle, powermanagment working,...

2 disksleep, have camino stop the cache/swap game,.... disable system swap,

put 4gb total ram in, migrate user account, to expresscard-slot SD flash 8gb,

3 try the os on the flash card, maybe a fast usb card,...

4 ssd sata disk , instead of dvd drive , and use the disk for storage only

5 low voltage penryn,...

6 pimp the battery, custom cells

7 powermanagment,...

looks like 2010,

so what about osx on pendrive (USB) ? hmm leo needs 12gb,...

You whine about the price of the Apple SSD on the MBA, just look the price that Dell offers SSD:

Your MB is just a plastic toy, and does not have LED display, yuck.
Ionic Breezes are hot {censored}. No idea how they work though.

They use a charged plate electrostatic system for air flow.

If you want a real laptop get a macbook pro 17"

That is only your opinion. I doubt you've ever even held a MB Air in your own hands. I've been following the responses from actual MB Air owners over at Apple to compare their satisfaction of the laptop with other MB Air owners. Most MB Air owners say that they are VERY happy that they bought the MB Air. Several people traded in their Macbooks for a MB Air, and they said they don't miss the Macbook at all. Here are a few quotes from actual MB Air owners:

The Macbook Air itself is a marvel of design. Although it is thin, it is sturdy. Although it is sturdy, it is light. It seems almost space age... Overall, I think Apple has a winner here.

I just picked up my Air tonight and want to echo what the experiences of the original poster. Sweet machine. Feels much lighter than my MacBook and I look forward to traveling with it. Machine feels fine speed wise and has been very quiet in normal operation. As in silent.

My Air is a replacement for my four year old G4 Powerbook. In a nutshell - the MacBook Air ROCKS!

Got mine from the San Francisco Apple Store yesterday, and agree with the comments here: it's a quite fabulous machine. Once I got past the oohs and aahs from friends, installed software and started using it, I discovered that it's a beautifully engineered laptop that seems fast enough for everything I need it for

I love mine - and I must say, the SSD is fantastic. Startup times for programs, documents etc is unreal and beats my Mac Pro - which is to say something

I gave up a MBP 2.4/ 2g for the MBA 1.8 64 SSD. I am SO HAPPY.

I'm wishing that one day I wake up and my MacBook Pro has a larger area trackpad on it now after using the MacBook Air's.

Gave into an SSD Air last night. Screen is also a significant improvement - so bright in fact, I can't use it with the brightness on full. Very nice.

Now of course not everyone would be happy with a MB Air and no one here is saying that. What is being pointed out here though is that the MB Air does have a solid market, and for those people the MB Air is a great product. If the SSD drops in price as it should then it will be approx. 40% less next year. The price of the MB Air will also probably drop and then you'll start to see a lot of people switching over to the MB Air. You'll probably also start to see MB Air features added to the regular Macbook line-up. Many people have fallen in love with the MB Air's keyboard and trackpad so look for those probably in (at least) the 17" MB Pro soon. I think a lot of the nay-sayers will be quite surprised at just how many they sell when sales figures are released.
