I updated to 10.5.7 on my P5K Pro, and tried using the P5K-SE_10.5.7.pkg, but I got the kernel panic on restart anyway. Fortunately I had read here that the P5K-SE_10.5.7.pkg did not work for some, so I saved my 10.5.6 AppleHDA.kext file before doing the upgrade, and just booted in to safe mode (-x) and copied it back using the "Kext Helper" app.

For some reason, I also lost my ethernet, and had to go back in to IONetworkingFamily.kext and re-edit it for my network adapter. Has anyone used "PlistEdit Pro"? It's a really nice utility for editing Plist's

I also had the Orange drive icon issue back, and I had to fix it again

Also I got the Nvidia jumpy mouse issue again, and had to delete the new version of AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext,

to make it stop. This issue was supposed to be resolved in the 10.5.7 upgrade, according to the documentation, but

it did not work for me, still had to delete the kext to fix it.

So after upgrading, I Have replaced:

AppleHDA.Kext so I can boot up without a kernel panic.

IOAHCIFamily.kext

Replacing these with the hacked versions fixes the Orange drive icon issue.

AppleAHCIPort.kext

Deleted:

AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext for the nVidia/Quicktime jumpy mouse issue

Edited the youkon2.kext within IONetworkingFamily.kext, to get my NIC back up

Chuck E.

I am "glad" to read that other people have random kernel panics aswell. I had LOTS when I tried Jimmy first package.

Did the new package make the Kernel Panics dissappear for anybody?? (P5k, Q6600 8GB )

I switched back to 5.6 but I´d like to update anytime soon.

P.S Pierunstwo I am also runnig a Apogee Duet , works just fine with a PCI Texas Instruments card.

I am still getting the kernel panics. Anyone else?

what I have to write to boot in safe mode in order to restore appleHda.kext? -x ? -s ? -v?

I have seen a few others post the same issue I am having, but am not yet able to find a resolution anywhere.

I have done the following;

1. Download all files, burn PK5Family.iso (tried a few others as well..)

2. Burn retail 10.5.6 leopard disk

3. Following instructions for booting with Boot 123 disk, then putting in retail disk.

At this point, it shows the grey background with the apple logo and stays there forever. No spinning icon, not error, just sits there. If I boot verbosely, it clears the text off and displays a blank screen at this point.

Just before switching to this screen, it displays the following text.

Attempting to determine CPU Multipler. If system reboots, RDMSR 198h causes a fault.

Determined CPU:FSB multiplier to be 16

measuring TSC frequency (e.g. CPU speed)

CPU runs at 3212.234666 MHz

BUS must therefore run at 200.764666 Mhz

I have tried tinkering with my BIOS settings, as well as updating the BIOS to the latest revision and resetting to defaults. Not sure where to go at this point...

I am curious if perhaps the retail installation does not work with a pentium 4 CPU, and requires a dual/quad core. I have installed patched copies in the past (kalyway, 10.5.1 and a few 10.4.x) with no issue, but they may be modified to support pentium 4.

Hardware:

Asus P5K-E Wifi-AP

Pentium 4 3.2Ghz

2GB DDR3 Crucial RAM

Way too many hard drives, but have tried with both IDE and SATA

Pioneer SATA DVD drive

Would prefer getting a retail install working than going back to a modified install, so any help is appreciated.

thanks.

Update: The Tutorial Has Been Updated....

get the new 10.5.7 installer, you may restore your vanilla 10.5.7 AppleHDA.kext

But before installing...

ACPIPS2Nub.kext

ApplePS2Controller.kext

Hi, ignore the system preferences audio panel, select the first line out, then test with the 5.1 speakers, it should work, well, it does here

The other 2 lineouts are responsible for rear speakers, center and subwoofer, they work with the 1st lineout selected.

give it a try ;)

Hi Jimmy,

Pentium 4 requires voodoo kernel, you may try to install with a boot123 with a voodookernel / seatbelt kernel, and other to make your work.

I have installed one to a friend, but with her HD in my hackintosh, then I installed the kexts, kernel, efi V9, etc...

For my self. I'm not getting nor have I ever gotten the random kernel panics I have seen in other posts, The only one I had gotten was at boot immediately after the 10.5.7 upgrade, I installed the P5K-SE_10.5.7.pkg, and re-booted. It would get to a certain point in the boot cycle and the screen would grey out from top to bottom, and tell me I had to restart. over and over. Replacing the AppleHDA.kext with the old one I had saved before starting the upgrade, fixed that problem, and I boot normally now, and the system is rock stable.

It's like the AppleHDA,kext you added to the P5K-SE_10.5.7.pkg, did not get installed over the new one from the upgrade, but when I did it manually from Kext Helper, It installed, and would boot just fine.

Thanks for all your hard work

About Kernel Panics

Update: Check the next post :)

Hi, first of all, I´d like to know what app are you using, how to "make" this kernel panics happen, if it is due to a hardware usage, software usage...

Some kernel panics happen due to invalid permitions, fixing the permitions of the software should work (using disk utility)

The kexts from 10.5.7 version of the installer are the same, except the AppleHDA.kext (version 10.5.6) and the LegacyAppleHDAPlatformDriver.kext

The backtrace people posted here is using UInstaller.app, so trying to install any kext, maybe an incompatible one?

I noticed for instance that ACPIPS2Nub.kext was causing kernel panics, so I removed it, no matter how I tryied to recompile the source, the file still had severe incompatibilities..

Please, post your feedback on how the kernel panics occur.

Thanks All :P

I did not have kernel panics here.. Then talking to a friend I find out which kext was installed here other than the ones in the pack

seatbelt.kext

try this solution

download, install using UInstaller, kexthelper or whatever, then reboot

boot with -v -f, and give it a try

good luck, post the results

PS. It workt for a P5k-se/EPU

Hey Jimmy,

I am still getting the random panics :/ Even after the seatbelt fix.

Any new ideas?

Rhcp

Got it working!

Heres what I did:

1) Installed 10.5.7 combo update but ended up with a kernel panic (caused by AppleHDA). :)

2) Rebooted with -v -f -x options, manually removed the AppleHDA kext and reinstalled UInstaller 1.2 and P5K_SE 10.5.7 packages.

3) Rebooted again

4) No more kernel panic :) , logged in and ran System Preferences.

5) Reinstalled my printer and reconfigured sound.

6) Now running ok! No problems so far.

* Prior to the update I was running a 10.5.6 system (with all the software updates) from a 10.5 original installation.

Thank you Jimmy for providing the necessary support packages. :(

I'm not sure that AppleHDA works correct.

In my system.log there are some errors:

Hi, working on it... kernel perhaps... trying some kernel fixes...

try booting with -f option, then try getting the kp.

Here is my system log: http://crond.org/system.log.0

Maybe someone out there can see what is crashing on me.

Hi, this is not appleHDA, it is HDAEnabler, it is normal, even in 10.5.6 you get this msg

Trying to get the source, but no luck untill now. :(

I´M WORKING ON A NEW INSTALLER, GETTING AN EXTRA HARD DRIVE, INSTALLING OSX 10.5.6 AND UPDATING IT, THEN INSTALLING THE KEXTS, ONE BY ONE AND TESTING THEM FOR STABILITY...

true.. it's from HDAEnabler...

Anyway I don't think my 5 outlines work.. I tried to use my usual headphones with different outline on my system case (I don't mean in the setings but hardware) and only from 1 outline I hear some sound...

is it supposed to be so?

P.S. Sorry for english and maybe stupid question.

Hi jimmy,

I'm stuck at trying to install the kects, i can now boot into mac with boot cd. Do i then need to run the 10.7 update, then run the u installer..

I have checked : install to hardrive, changed my resolution to 1680 x 1050 and the rest of the options. But do i need to select custom kexts from hardrive? if so which ones would i need? after that should i then run the se package?

My Rig is : intel e6400

Nvidia 8800gt 512mb

1 GB Geil 6400 ram

Asus p5k-e wifi ap (i dont use the wifi, i have an ethernet cable)

At the moment i can boot into mac with the cd, but the resolution is wrong and i havent installed any drivers yet so i cant get on the internet.

thanks!

Install from Retail DVD, then boot with boot123 CD again, install the update, do not reboot, then install the P5K-SE_10.5.7.pkg, do not reboot yet, run UInstaller.app select pcEFI V9, select your VGA, select time machine fix, click apply, then reboot, cross your fingers...

Pentium 4 requires voodoo kernel, you may try to install with a boot123 with a voodookernel / seatbelt kernel, and other to make your work.

I have installed one to a friend, but with her HD in my hackintosh, then I installed the kexts, kernel, efi V9, etc...

Well, I built a new boot123 with voodoo kernel, and it's getting further. Now I get stuck with;

Still waiting for root device

I have tried a few modified boot disks, including yours with the voodoo kernel. Have ensured SATA is set to AHCI. have pulled out all extra hard drives. Can't seem to get past this....

Latest attempt is with your boot123 with voodoo kernel and boot flags as;

rd(0,1)/mach_kernel.voodoo -v -legacy rd=disk4s0

Thoughts? ... About to go buy a new processor and risk the wife's ire. :(

thanks!

Don´t forget to include

» AppleDecrypt.kext

» AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext ( ICHX Sata devices )

» AppleSMBIOSEFI.kext

» AppleVIAATA.kext ( IDE/E-Sata devices )

» Disabler.kext ( core file )

» OpenHaltRestart.kext ( core file )

Good luck
