grunerd Posted December 7, 2008 Share Posted December 7, 2008 Hi. I've got an Abit A-68SV (nforce 630) with an AMD X2 6000+ (AM2) and a 500 Gig Samsng SATA-HDD. I tried to install iATKOS v4a (10.5.4). With SATA-HDD in IDE-Mode, the installer didn't recognize the HDD. In AHCI-Mode, I could see the HDD and install OSX on it. But when I try to boot from the SATA-HDD, I get "Still waiting for root device". I tried reinstalling it with nforce SATA-Drivers on iATKOS-DVD, I tried with normal SATA-Drivers on the DVD, too. Nothing worked. Might the Drivers in the first Post work for nforce 630-Chipset? Thanks in advice. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
ben10 Posted December 20, 2008 Share Posted December 20, 2008 I am having an issue that I am not sure is directly caused by these drivers, but I suspect them. In any hard drive read/write heavy situation, my system has a good chance of freezing and giving me the spinning wheel. No KP, no errors, simply frozen. Windows respond for a minute, then, although I can still move the mouse, I cannot interact with anything on the screen. I have to hard reboot. I have tried a couple different distros, many other versions of display and other drivers, and the problem remains. I get these freezes when installing large programs, adding music to itunes, moving files around, and similar operations. This problem has me baffled, as I get no feedback from my system as to where the problem is originating from, but as it freezes during hard drive operations, it seems as though my hardware and this driver arent friendly. I have tried both NforceATA and NforceATATest, with and without HPET, with and without patched DSDT, with and without CPU overclocked, with and without cpus=1 and maxmem=2048 and a number of other things, all with the same result. halp... I can install the Mac OS on a IDE HD, but after installation the system crashes on apple boot screen, when i use -v parameter on Darwin it show me lots of error messages about nForce SATA controller. i was able to boot on safe mode with the parameters "-v -x -s -f " on Darwin, but nothing works properly. There are the resume of all problems: I can't use my IDE DVD-ROM, but my IDE Hard Drive works (the OS was installed there) and the most strange of all is my other SATA Hard Drive was acessible with my NTFS partitions on the desktop! my LAN adapter won't work too. My mouse use a USB connetion and it works perfectly, but the USB ports don't work with Kingston pen drives or other hardware. zandera Posted December 29, 2008 Share Posted December 29, 2008 I also had problems with the nVIDIA nForce 520 (MCP65S) chipset ASUS M2N-X Mother BoardI don't have sucess with this nForce driver included on a iDeneb v1.3 disto. I can install the Mac OS on a IDE HD, but after installation the system crashes on apple boot screen, when i use -v parameter on Darwin it show me lots of error messages about nForce SATA controller. i was able to boot on safe mode with the parameters "-v -x -s -f " on Darwin, but nothing works properly. There are the resume of all problems: I can't use my IDE DVD-ROM, but my IDE Hard Drive works (the OS was installed there) and the most strange of all is my other SATA Hard Drive was acessible with my NTFS partitions on the desktop! my LAN adapter won't work too. My mouse use a USB connetion and it works perfectly, but the USB ports don't work with Kingston pen drives or other hardware. I have an nVidia 680i board with SATA DVD + SATA HDD, and MeDevil's "TEST" drivers worked. But the read/write is pretty unstable, and crashes when I try to write any file > 100mb Can anyone help me with this problem? All components are working now, it's just that read/write to SATA is shaky. System: eVGA 680i Mobo 4GB Corsair RAM, @ 800 MHz, 5-5-5-18 timing. eVGA 8800GT 512 mb WD 250GB SATA HDD Sony (I think?) I can install the Mac OS on a IDE HD, but after installation the system crashes on apple boot screen, when i use -v parameter on Darwin it show me lots of error messages about nForce SATA controller. i was able to boot on safe mode with the parameters "-v -x -s -f " on Darwin, but nothing works properly. There are the resume of all problems: I can't use my IDE DVD-ROM, but my IDE Hard Drive works (the OS was installed there) and the most strange of all is my other SATA Hard Drive was acessible with my NTFS partitions on the desktop! my LAN adapter won't work too. My mouse use a USB connetion and it works perfectly, but the USB ports don't work with Kingston pen drives or other hardware. I use only IDE HDD (set to primary master), and IDE DVD drive (set to primary slave), and my OSX install is succesfull. The only issue I'm having is that it seems to be having issues writing to the MBR. When I try to partition using the installer with the driver it isn't able to update that it just formatted a partition, although when I reboot it did do it successfully. Also, after installation all the files have been written to disk (in an amazingly fast install, 15 minute) but it doesn't install the boot loader. I'm thrown back to my usual Windows boot loader instead. What I'm asking, after all this, is whether or not there is something I can add/modify in the driver that will help me get complete access to the drive to allow me to install a bootloader? I tried the driver and everything seemed to work OK but when I reboot I got stuck at AppleNforceAta: found 0 units and after a while appears "data underrun". What have I done wrong? Can you upload your kext somewhere, so I can test it on my system? Or could you (or anybody else) give me some info on how and where to add my IDs to the source? Then I downloaded the both kexts and the source but couldn't find there neither the ID nor a note about the MCP78S. So is it supported or not? Yeah, what is with info.plist? Should I cook it? I know I should check that the info.plist has my device ID and if not then write it myself. What I meant with my previous post is when the DRIVER itself does not support my device then it doesn't matter what I write into the info.plist and at the next boot I'll get a "The device is not supported" or something like that. And, looking at the source code of the driver, it seems like it doesn't support an MCP78S. Anyway, I added my chipset and the device ID to the source code (I hope I did it right, had to figure it out myself), compiled it.. Now I'm getting "found 0" on every boot but my IDE is running with DMA now, so I'm fine with it 'cause I have no SATA drives. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Tony Wony Posted February 3, 2009 Share Posted February 3, 2009 For noobs like me: If you're getting "still waiting for root device" errors - MAKE SURE that your Leopard drive has the "_boot" flag set. The Problem: I have a Compaq Presario V2340AP running XP with Western Digital IDE internal drive, 0x266F8086 (Intel-266f) AA controller. I installed idened 10.5.5 and got 'still waiting for root device'. I tried various 'customize' options when installing but no dice. I read all I could about SATA issues, AHCI issues, etc etc (very confusing), then installed AppleIntelPIIXATA and IOATAFamily.kext_V1.1 (using MacDrive) into my Leopard. Still got the 'still waiting for boot device' errors. The Fix: I booted to a live CD I had lying around (GParted) and then set my "leopard" partition to have the flag '_boot' (not my XP partition) and this got rid of my "still waiting for root device" errors instantly. I could still boot into XP (although MacDrive does not recognise my HFS-formatted drives for some reason). Still Pluggin Away And yeah, I still don't have my graphics driver KEXTs sorted (for my Intel 915) but I'm hoping that will be sorted soon. :-) I get past blue screen now into black screen, so at least I'm getting there. SATA controller is plain nforce4. the current configuration is like this: [ide] archive - data (i don't fully trust this driver yet ) [sata] system My music is stored on the ide drive. When there's much going on at the system disk, the sound stutters (like a scratching). It doesn't matter, if the music is stored on the ide or the sata disk. System Configuration is like that: Mainboard: MSI K8N Neo4-F CPU: Athlon64 X2 3800+ IDE: 320GB Seagate SATA: 250GB Samsung System: Leopard 10.5.6, 9.5.0 Voodoo Any Ideas?
