Hello There! :(

I'm using Leopard 10.5.8 on an Asus G2P with a Radeon X1700 - 71D5. I downloaded from the main post the following packages: 71D5 - 10.5.8 update (to have ATIRadeonX1000.kext), 71D5 for 10.5.7 (to have ATINDRV.kext) and AsusG2PATIinject.kext. Then I downloaded 4ATINDRV.zip and I put the Info.plist file inside ATINDRV.kext. But when I reboot I just see blue and white squares and lines; the screen isn't black, but it's all corrupted. :( Could anybody please tell me which are exactly the kexts I have to use?

Thanks very much for your help! :(

Inside 4ATINDRV should be also the ATINDRV binary ... also that must be placed inside ATINDRV.kext/Contents/MacOS

Also check if the EDID is correct because on your machine could be another kind of display or is manufactured with different parameters ...

Is it possible to set up my internal as well as my external display in antiinject? If so how do I do that?

If you follow my solution for Asus G2P using this might help you, but try to respect what is needed for your internal display and VGA card to work and replace the EDID's and the strings as necessary.

Allright, I've got both displays working now. However there are two more issues I would like adress:

1. Every other boot I get vertical stripes on one of the displays resulting in a freeze. Is there any way around this?

2. The same happens when I try to send the system into hibernate/sleep mode. Any way to fix that?

For the first problem ... be sure that the kexts are properly loaded so fix the permissions and boot with -s

the do follow:

/sbin/fsck -fy

/sbin/mnt -uw /

kextcache -v 1 -t -m /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup/Extensions.mkext /System/Library/Extensions/

for the second ... on my laptop the sleep does not work ... so the sleep/hibernate is not only a video issue, has also to do with other kexts and hardware configuration ... but in your case if you resolve the first problem mentioned ... you resolve also the second problem

That is what i guess but can be wrong to ...

Cheers

Hello RightEye,

Any update as to what the problem might be... I tried searching the ATIFramebuffer file for any instances of 71DE or DE71.. but no.. Everything seems to work except Resolution.. There should be a way to get the resolution thing working in it too.. Moreover, i dont think it would be possible to have ATINDRV written in 64bit cause the sources are not available..

But its a little weird that apple would not go for backward compatibility when its working with 10.5.x and not with 10.6.x ... there has to be some other reason..

Please do give me any inputs if you have.. B)

Thanks,

A.Xavier

  • 3 weeks later...

I'm part way here - I have an F3Jp with the X1700 Mobility. I'm running a vanilla Leopard install at the moment, for the most part. I can install the 10.5.6 ATINDRV and ATIRadeonX1000.kext from the front page and I get QE/CI supported, but no matter what Natit or ATIinject I use, I get a black screen. How do I find my EDID? Will that also fix my mouse tearing?

edit: had to reinstall Windows to do it, but I have my EDID. Looks like the same one as altee, bien_van_khat, et. al. I did not mess with the TV output because I don't really need it; I just wanted the one for my built-in screen. Does that mean I should be able to use the "Obsan1ty" Natit or ATIinject kexts? If so I still have a problem - I just get a black screen. Not sure how to convert the below into the Info.plist.

The installer system from torrent sites uses a patched AtiRadeonx1000.kext that is not working well on all machines (i had the same problem so i had to patch the kext myself) Give me de hardware id and i'll try to make it work.

hello all!

First off: Righteye, thanks for all the hard work getting this put together!

I have a pair of EDIDs for you if you're interested. They're from my F3Jp (model AK048P). Interestingly enough, I get different EDIDs depending on whether I get it from Windows or OSX,. When compared to the ones you have posted, I suspect that the one being pulled from OSX is the external port...

EDID 1 (from Windows XP)

00FFFFFF FFFFFF00 0DAF2315 00000000 00000103 80211478 0A77F1A0 5A4B9624

184F5400 00000101 01010101 01010101 01010101 01017C2E 90A0601A 1E403020

36004BCF 10000018 000000FE 004E3135 345A312D 4C30320A 20200000 00FE0043

4D4F0A20 20202020 20202020 000000FE 004E3135 345A312D 4C30320A 202000F8

EDID 2 (MacOSX, reported by SwitchResX):

00FFFFFF FFFFFF00 00001707 00000000 0A0A0101 0C1E17BE E82DC9A0 57479827

12484C00 00000101 01010101 01010101 01010101 01010101 01010101 01010101

01010101 01010101 01010101 01010101 01010101 01010101 01010101 01010101

01010101 01010101 01010101 01010101 01010101 01010000 00000000 00000002

I had QE/CI running under Kalyway 10.5.2 but I never got the resolution up to 1680x1050. I had to set "Graphics Mode"="1680x1050x32" in the boot.plist ( I think) and that set it at 1400x1050x32. I never got rid of the mouse tearing.

So here I am running iPC 10.5.6 getting ready to update to 10.5.8 and I want to get the video working first.

laptop specs are:

x1700 (71D5) 256mb dedicated VRAM, 256M/512M additional shared RAM available in XP/Vista

T7200 Core2Duo at 2gHz

2gb DDR2 667

Intel 945PM/ICH7 Mobile chipset

120gb Hitachi SATA hdd (disk0s1 WinXP, disk0s2 MacOSX)

DVD-Multi ATAPI (HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T10N) - so far, so good

Intel HD Audio - works as Azalia or AC97

Realtek RTL8111/8168B 1000TX LAN - working

Intel 3945ABG wireless - recognized, non-functional

Hawking HWL2A WiFi Locator Pro USB (ZyDas 1211 unit) - Works

Ricoh SD Card slot - non-functional

AsusTek Bluetooth - works

I'm going to start with the ATIinject stuff unless you can make a recommendation based on the EDIDs...

very interesting - righteye, I compared my EDIDs against all of the ones you have listed, and my f3Jp is an exact match for the V1Jp.

I'll give that set of drivers a shot and see what happens.

[... time passes...]

Righteye,

you are THE MAN.

I dropped the three appropriate files:

- ATIinject.kext from AsusV1JPATIinject.kext.zip

- ATINDRV.kext & ATIRadeonx1000.kext from 10.5.6_ATINDRV_AtiRadeonX1000.zip

And I have full functionality without having to edit anything!

QE/CI works, fourteen different resolutions to choose from all the way up to native 1680x1050, and no tearing.

No external monitor at this point, but I'd say it's still a huge success for not having to edit anything at all.

scratch that. external monitor works too, but

DO NOT CLICK 'DETECT DISPLAYS'

it scrambles the screen in what looks like a GPU overheat - it likely isn't, but for those of you who have watched the screen melt in with a GPU overheat, that's exactly what it looks like of you click 'Detect Displays'

Hope are working in Snow Leopard but you have to update to 10.6.1

ATI1600Controller.kext.zipATIFramebuffer.kext.zipATISupport.kext.zip

ATINDRV.kext.zip is the one from 10.5.8 with minor modifications

EVOenabler.kext.zip replacement for ATiinject

Off Topic ... Because i have less time than before, the files for x1700 SL are spread around ... HERE for 71DE and HERE for 71D5

EDIT: I got it to work! Used the Garnould Natit zip Righteye supplied earlier in this discussion and I booted up 1280x800!

Hey guys, I've been trying to get full res on my Asus F3JP-AP053C-A which is 1280x800 native in Windows. My device id is 71d5 and I'm running iATKOS 10.5.7 I'm using the 71D5.zip for 10.5.7 and i think it works because I get QE/CI however I'm stuck on 1024x768 with mouse tearing. I've tried editing ATIinject to use my EDID and I think im doing something wrong because on reboot my screen is split in 4 sections. But I can change resolution and I see 1280x800 its just that my screen is split into 4 sections so I delete ATIinject.kext and start back from square one. If anyone can offer any solution I'd really appreciate it.

Could you please help me modifying the drivers to manage it to work?

Thanks very much for your help!

Only this had to be replaced ale.g81_ATIinject.kext.zip

If anyone can offer any solution I'd really appreciate it.

Never Ever use EDID's reported by SwitchResX ... You have to modify ATIinject using the EDID from Windows.

If you have problems dooing that ... let me know i'll do it for you

I was finally able to get QE&CI on 10.5.8 with the tips from #612 (Thanks! :( )

It's actually enough to change only the first occurrence of DE71 to D471 in the binary

ATIRadeonX1000.kext/Content/MacOS/ATIRadeonX1000. It's the byte at the offset BE3E0. Only one byte needs changing. (changing too much could probably corrupt the driver?)

Before changing this byte I was getting kernel panics.

My specs:

Lenovo T60p model 8741

ATI FireGL 5250 256MB (0x71d4)

10.5.8

Using ATIinject/Info.plist with all device IDs set to 71d4 and the EDID taken from the Phoenix tool.

The ATIRadeonX1000 Info.plist also has the 0x71d41002 added to the IOPCIMatch list

Hello there,

I'm new on the mac world, can anyone helps me ?

-> I have tried a lot of the 3 kexts (ATINDRV.kext ; ATIinject.kext and ATIRadeonX1000.kext) for my Asus F3JP, but none of them worked :/

Anyone ? (For more information, look at my signature)

Still no one ? :/

As i understand you had installed iAtkos 10.5.7 so i believe when you installed the system the AtiFix or something was selected. That means it used a patched set of kexts.

In order to get video working you have to be sure that all the files related with video has to be from 10.5.7 retail. No patch other than the one specially patched for x1700.

Suggestion:

Update to 10.5.8 to get rid of the old patched files and use this instructions

Also you can post me the device id and the EDID extracted from windows and i'll help you more.

Or: follow the instructions from here how to install from retail only using a few necessary files ... then fixing other things.

Cheers

Hi, thanks for your reply,

Now, I'm on iPC 10.5.6 upgraded on 10.5.8, but i've now a white screen with the screen splitted in 4 ...

For extracting the EDID, with which program do I do that ?

Thanks again !

(sorry for my english again ;))
