Most likely just disabling HPET won't help. The new scheduler seems to require a timer more precise than LAPIC if the CPU is multithreaded (multicore or hyperthreaded). (When LAPIC was invented, noone thought of a quad-core CPU yet.) The main difference between Intel's HPET and nvHPET is that Intel's HPET has 2 different operating modes (32-bit and 64-bit mode) that are chosen by the BIOS (usually by the user in the BIOS setup), while nvHPET has only one mode in BIOS (so the options are "Enabled" and "Disabled", as opposed to "Disabled", "32-bit" and "64-bit"), and the actual operating mode is chosen by the OS. This mode selector is what the Golden kernel is missing (as it's unneeded for Intel's HPET), and due to this, it most likely picks the wrong mode on nVidia boards. (It might be worth checking if changing the HPET setting in BIOS and using the -legacy switch fixes our problems.)

my system seems run fine after disable hpet and boot with -legacy, at least no freeze for half an hour,

but freeze after an hour.

i dont hear it freeze problem with c2d? is it only c2q? bcoz c2ds work fine so far i hear on the nforce patched kernels?

nope, freeze does happen ..

my problem is mainly due to the display drivers,

as i had said, golden kernel works fine with qeci disabled.

hmm funny, on my system if i use golden kernel desktop freezes or never boots in leo...

in tiger it works fine... however i have issue only with installing ilife 08... until the last part install goes fine at about 80% finished it freezes the system always! everytime i run it, at same point it freezes the system...

apart from that everytg is ok.

oh, that's a pity :gathering:

but believe it or not, i also got panic in leopard in the past,

but once i moved my install to the second partition, the problem was gone,

that's weird and not very reasonable i know:P

and i test hpet@disable 4cores@enable again !!

geekbench hits 5500 pts, playing rmvb and 1080i for an hour without a single glitch ..

maybe last time azeurus or vmware freezed my system

perhaps i should do some more intensive tests, any suggestions?

perhaps using patched kernels causing someother things to fail, like display drivers are not responding well to the kernel... since hpet disabled and acpi features cripled with it... i dont know... it just feels funny, everytg working one particular thing fails ;)

i hope some guy will come and port/implement the nvHpet into the vanilla kernels or whatever kernel that will make our days good forever :) once it is done, it will be easy to move the functions to updated kernels...

a vanilla kernels with implemented nvHpet = hacked kernel lol

Just so everyone knows, I am also installing MAC OS 10.5 on my PC using .NetRolller3d's guide. Quick question... My installation is showing 10hours+ to install ... does that sound right?

10+ hours is a really long time for an installation. sounds like a hang of some sort.

btw, I have my NForce working near perfection with Kalyway + ToH kernel. My wi-fi card's the only thing giving me trouble.

Well one hour later, its gone down from 11 hours to 7 hours. i wouldn't be surprised if i missed something in the bios. there really aren't any clear instructions regarding the right settings for your bios for evga 680i mobo. but i'm going to let it run overnight and see what happens.

Also, while going through NetRolller3d's guide, it states HFS+ Journaled partition. When I opened disk utilities, the only options I was given was (Mac OS Extended + Journaled), (Mac OS Extended + case sensitive Journaled), and something else very similar. I chose (Mac OS Extended + Journaled). I didn't see any options that would let me change from using MBR as the partitioning mode. So does (Mac OS Extended + Journaled) = HFS + Journaled ... or did I screw up already :D

Once I get this working, I'm going to write up a very detailed guide for all EVGA 680i folk as there appears to be alot of us with issues.

heads up guys, latest news...

i just installed iAtkos 1.0i R2 ppf + special ppf with nforceata and kernel! it works perfect, and installation took only 6-7 mins (yes 6-7 mins!!!!!)

what i did is:

already had iAtkos 1.0i (which doesnt boot on nforce mobos)

i downloaded 1.0i to 1.0i R2 ppf (pm me if u want this)

i downloaded special ppf with nforceata and nforce patched kernel (pm me if u want this as well, i m sure you will want it :) )

(note: ppf allows full hdd acces, not limited to 128gb, but nforce ata and kernel are not installed, they work on boot, so u have to install them once evertyhing finished. meaning at first boot, you will be limited to 128 gb again... which should tickle you already, that you should install it in a partition in the first 128 gb of your hdd/partition... otherwise it will have issues as any other non edited systems would have... so make sure you understand this... u can grab the kernel from cd easy, but nforce ata can be downloaded from here IM/ drivers section... meaning if u didnt install the osx in first 128gb section of your hdd you will need another working system to install kernel and nforce ata... sorry guys this is the only downside at the moment...)

+ applied them to iso in windows with ppf o matic takes 4-5 secs to apply so dont be scared...

+ burned the iso

+ booted off the dvd, with -v -x (bcoz i have ati card) but nomore cpus=1

+ installed with efi bootloader but not stock acpi or stock stg forgot it now, as it is for other systems... u must know it already...

+ once installation done (in 5-6 mins on my system) restart

+ boot -v -x

+ create account

+ system will be very slow for now, so you need to do things i said in above note

+ if u have ati card, make sure u rm all nvd* and gef* kexts...

+ once everything sorted out, a perfect system for nforce chipsets...

last note: i talked to orginal creater of this patched kernel, and he has nvHPET address hard coded in kernel, I have the kernel, and will try it if it will work or not and let you guys know...

did not work on my mobo, but works on some others as told...

has anyone gotten leopard to not only recognize the 2 cores on a c2d but to actually use them? I finally got leopard to recognize mine as a c2d but i cannot boot without the "cpus=1" flag. i turned off HPET in the bios and thats how i got it to recognize my c2d as a c2d and not a c2s.

@mysticushow's the appleviaata.kext works for you system compared to medevil nforceata.kext?

in tests, it looks like appleviaata works better than nforceata however you cannot really tell so much just from benchmarks, as i find it hard to believe some xbench scores and others... but i am using pata drive (see my signature for the reason) but i am pretty satisfied with my current leopard from iAtkos release... extremely nice and never had any issue of trouble of freezing tearing or any sort...all cores are working

no more kernel testing as the creater/coder of this patched kernel wished to be contacted directly in case anyone wants to help test in their own risk...

@claud: system is never been better than this to date... all cores, full hdd, full qe/ci, full network (but seperate nic as it is pain to use patched kexts to get nforce nics run, too much headache if u used one... 30 sec wait to flush nics cache do not load traffic... :D bought myself a sweex lc001 based on rtl8139) everything works like charm... 12 usb 2 firewire port everytg working perfect...

@eluminx: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...&pid=492489 read this, at the bottom of the page there are 4 kernels that allows full cpu usage w/o cpus=1!!! but make sure u read its title, some require efi, some not...so all in all, it is great to have iAtkos 1.0i + (R2 ppf + nforce ppf) however like i said before, it doesnt install nforce stuff from the dvd, but talking to uphuck about it wheter to include it in later release or as another ppf... which will make it the only perfect nforce mobo friendly release ever...

okay, so now i should be satisfied with the medevil kext,

by the way, there are still issues between the 10.5.2 kext and cores enabled,

it's still yet to be fixed, so lucky you have a ati that will grant u a perfect sys from now on :D

i am making some new guide for these chipsets, and all the necessary files hopefully will be included, and with the least amount of trouble people will get leopard up and running on 10.5.1 all hdd on sata/pata and all cores working without cpus=1 trouble... i will also talk to uphuck and ask him kindly to help me make one more ppf that will install the nforce necessary kexts... i dont know how long, but it will not be very long, even w/o that ppf to install nforce things i still have a guide to install everything w least amount of trouble... so wait for the guide and maybe dvd... just for nforces... :)
