My problem is, that i cant install any way of X11. it says it have installed already X11 but when i try to start Open office its crying out for X11 please. Can someone help me what to do?
The X11.pkg for X11 can be found on any full install DVD (Uphuck or otherwise) in System/Installation/Packages dir. Drag it to your desktop and double click it to install X11. If you don't have a previous release such as Uphuck's 1.3 DVD I may create a torrent of it. Its 50mb.
Thanks for the response. I tried what uphuck suggested several times and it didn't work for me. I have a legit version of 2004 that I use on my Mac Pro and it has worked on every other install I've done. I never tried to use the installer from uphuck's previous discs until I couldn't get mine to work. The problem must lie elsewhere. Some have gotten it to work on v1.4, while others who are fairly computer literate have not. I'm open to other suggestions though. Currently, I'm using Office 2007 in Parallels and that works fine. It's just a matter of wanting my system to be as flawless as possible. Thanks again.
Consider yourself lucky, I can't get Parallels to work at all. It just crashes the system when I click to install Windows from a CD or ISO. As for Office, no I couldn't get it to run either. There is definately something missing from this release re. rosetta. I even re-installed Office from the .pkg off the v 1.3 DVD, which of course I know works perfectly. No dice. So no office, sorry. I can get Toast working, along with CS3 just fine. So its nothing to do with the SMBIOS issue.

Re: Office, don't cry too hard tho, check out http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/index.php its actually very good indeed. So good in fact I have no problem switching to it from Office '04. BTW its 100% free. Make sure you get Patch 7.

Yeah, I understand what you're saying about neooffice. But I think office packages are a lot like beer. I you like regular and all someone has is light, you'll drink the light because it's there, but it's still not your full-bodied regular beer. :tomato:

however on v1.4i office works on my tests, even on sse2. on revision 2 also. cs3 cs2 toast 7xx tested and fine.

I've been trying to troubleshoot this. I didn't try to install any secondary software until after I used KoolKal's 10.4.10 update. It's possible that is the cause of my problems with Office. Tonight or tomorrow I'll test that out after I back up my system. Thanks for your innovations.

To my knowledge my problems didn't start happening until after I installed the security patch and updates for quicktime and itunes. I'm sorry I didn't write down the exact name of the updates. I had used microsoft word just an hour before processing the updates and rebooting. Now lots of things don't work. Where in the OS can I see updates that were installed and is it possible to "uninstall" them?I found the update log and this is what I installed which might have caused my problem.

Hey. Can anyone help me? Here's my problem:

Everything installs fine (from DVD), but when I boot my laptop up a blinking underscore flashes.

I am using 1.4i 10.4.9 uphuck release, here are my specs:

Intel Core Duo w/ Speedstep 1.7GHZ

1GB RAM

Intel GMA950

120GB SATA HDD

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

For those of you that are on slow bandwidth - as soon as I get a full copy of this I'm gonna create a ppf of it and throw it up on the same place.

If you don't know what a ppf is. .

You downloaded the main iso - and than instead of downloading the 2nd iso too. . you just grab the patch and it fixes the first iso to be identical to the 2nd.

Will post more once I get full copy.

Unsuccessful Installation and Related Symptoms:

1- I get a blinking Cursor after Installation:

--> Your partition that OSX is instaled is not active and containing no Boot Flag.

~ Use Gparted Live cd and by using harddrive manager set "Boot Flag" to the OSX partition.

--> Your partition table type should be other than MBR (Apple type or guid)

~ Use Gparted Live cd for partitioning and set disk type to msdos or choose MBR type when partitioning with diskutil.

--> You might be using Jmicron Sata controller or such controller that is not supported or you may not selected the right driver for your controller ex. viaata for sb4xx series.

~ Try using other controllers or select the driver at install if yours is supported.

2- I get the error "com.apple.Boot.plist is not found" after installation.

--> Your partition that OSX is instaled is not active and containing no Boot Flag.

3- I get the error "com.apple.Boot.plist is not found" while booting the DVD

--> You are probably trying to boot from damn jmicron ide.

~ You should use usb dvd rom drive, or need sata-ide convertor for your dvd rom drive. (See Known Issues #2)

Thanks for the helpful information.

I'm using gparted live cd now, except heres where I'm stumped:

I COMPLETELY formatted the drive right and let OS X do it's thing, now I have:

fat32 partition of 200MB WITH boot flag set

hfs partition with no flag set.

Should I remove the flag on the fat32 partition and add one to the hfs partition or just leave it all as it is?

Thanks.

If OSX is installed you need to change the boot flag to the HFS partition.

Re-install OSX. Using DiskUtil erase the disk.

Next select the Partition Tab, then select Options.

In the next box that opens, select the master boot option, close box, and select Partition.

When this has finished you will notice that the partition type is set to MBR and not GUID.

Continue with install, this should cure Apple.com.boot.plist not found error.

This worked for me hope this helps

Thank you this worked. Now i can actually use my computer. I just wish there was a fix for the wireless. Until there is i have to dual boot.

BeauX1 you probably have a guid partition right now (check it with gparted live cd, look at the disk info), if so delete all partition table with gparted and create new msdos partition table and 1 primary unformatted partition for osx and set boot flag to it. boot with 1.4i dvd and just erase the unformatted partition that you previously created with gparted and install osx to it. please read this post carefully.

So what about itunes updates?

I'm only guessing that it was the 2007-006 security update that messed up my system. I did the itunes and quicktime updates at the same time with the security 2007-006 update. I'm sure the iTunes and Quicktime updates didn't cause this to happen. I think it was the Security update 2007-006. I havent confirmed this yet though.

Thanks uphuck, that worked great.

Booted into OS X just fine, except one problem: my ethernet isn't working.

I've tried to find out the networking adapter for my ethernet, but all I can find is:

Networking Network adapter-Ethernet, Fast Ethernet IEEE 802. 11b IEEE 802. 11g

Ethernet network 100 BASE-TX/10 BASE-T

I know I can get the ethernet working in some way or another as this guy here:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=46974

..claims he got his ethernet working, no wifi but has the LAN working fine. We have the same laptop, Sony VAIO N21E/W.

But how? Can anyone lead me in the right direction in order to get my LAN driver working?

Mostly working! I was shocked to see that my ATI Radeon 9600 Pro worked right away at full resolution (1680x1050), with QE/CI supported, and only very minimal mouse tearing. I used Callisto 008 and AGPgart.

I still don't have ethernet or sound. I installed skge and AppleAC97Audio from an earlier release (worked when I was running 10.4.6, but video didn't). My motherboard is an Asus P4C800 deluxe, with 3COM 3C940 ethernet and AC97 audio. Anyone else get a similar setup to work? Are there multiple versions of skge?

Hey Uphuck,

thank you for the continues development for the OSx86 project.

I tried your latest 1.4i installment but after trying out several options, after 15 try outs

my system wont boot. I once got it to set up my system and keyboard but froze

afterwards. Maybe it's because of my AppleAPIC problem. I had the same issues

with versions 1.3 and 1.2 of your install DVDs.

You didn't include the AppleAPIC and AppleMPIC kexts from 10.4.8. Is it possible to include those

in an update to your 1.4i?
