Hey all, I'm new to the forum but I've been reading posts for a while. I have an inspiron 700m and have so far been unsuccessful with all of my osx installs. I partitioned my HD and installed Jas 10.4.9 sse2/sse3. The install went well, except I couldn't get my wireless to work, so I googled the drivers and downloaded them - wireless worked, but only with unsecured networks for some reason, (weird...) wired however did not work. I also was unable to dual boot into XP. I was then told to try again but with uphuck 10.4.9 v1.3, it was complete and worked very well. I did the install without problem. When the computer rebooted I had the option for OSX or XP - so far so good. When I select OSX 2 things would happen: (1) the grey apple screen would load and the spiral underneath the apple would circle continuously and no hard drive action. I'd reboot and the same thing would happen again, or I wouldn't even be able to select OSX, I'd highlight it and when I'd press enter, nothing would happen. I tried to reinstall with different options/kernals and still no luck, just that apple-spiral screen.

Any suggestions, ideas, thoughts, etc...

Thanks in advance!

@zednom u say different options but there are about 1000 combinations in that choices of v1.3 install. v1.3 is different than the older dvd's, u need to know what ur mobo, cpu and vga needs. Read descriptions carefully.

hi people 1.4i is on its usual place now, I wish good luck to my baby and to you :(

Thanks for the new version, uphuck. I've installed it now, but the iTunes bug is still there. It's even worse: Even if I'm already logged in, it would ask me to log in again when I want to play a preview or a DRM song. And if I do so, I still get error -50.

Also, it looks like Rosetta isn't working.

cheers

i used the uphuck dvd to update my 10.4.8 to 10.4.9 and now i get a login windows, where i use my username and password but it just shakes and does not let me login.

any one has experienced this?

thanks in advance for any help you can provide

That's odd, if you're sure you're entering your password correctly, then something has changed your password. I suggest an Archive and Reinstall to recover your system, unless your home directory is on a different drive, in which case you can just reinstall.

this is realy odd, i just used the reset password utility on the dvd and changed the root password, loged in and then whent to accounts on the system preferences.

my old account is not there, i can only see "system administrator"

but if i go to the "users" folder i have my old user folder there

I see that some ppl are getting success with asus mobos for v1.4i. uphuck, will i be able to install v1.4a with the asus mobo i have?
I don't know how to be any plainer, but there is never likely to be any support for your board. The two guys who came up with the driver (BikeDude880 and MeDevil) wrote it for CK804 nForce4 boards, mostly with the 939 socket. You do not have that board. You have an nForce 430, which has a MCP51 (Media Control Processor) chipset, and an AM2 socket.

  1. There is no support in the current driver.
  2. Support would entail writing a new driver or extending the current one. This requires people who know what they are doing (not me, and I presume not uphuck) with access to your hardware spending a lot of time reverse engineering timers and stuff which I have only the vaguest understanding of.
  3. Number two is extremely unlikely to happen without either personal motiviation (ie they're writing the driver for themselves) or a massive financial incentive.
  4. Uphuck has nothing to do with the driver effort (I presume). He packages drivers that already exist. If the drivers for the MCP51 don't exist (which they don't!) s/he can't package them.
  5. The above means that no uphuck/Tubgirl/JaS/any other DVD will support your hardware unless a driver is written.

I don't mean to be rude, and I apologise if I do come across as impolite. The simple fact is that there is no way to run OS X on your system. To run OS X, you need to replace your motherboard with a supported chipset (namely the CK804 nForce4, or one of the supported Intels) or get an IDE ATA hard drive to install OS X on. Until then, you're just wasting everyone's time, including yours. The answers to the questions you repeatedly ask can be found in this forum. If you don't understand these or other things, you really need to do your own research and find out about this stuff by searching and reading.

Yeah, your password is separate from your user folder. My suggestion would be to reinstall with the same username, which means you'll be able to access your folder regardless of your new password.

cheers , thanks for the help, i did something similar, i moved my user folder and created the same username with the system administrator, then i just moved the old folder over the newly created and it worked.

everything is in place

thanks for the help :P

Arrg! Well, Im not comfortable with replacin mobos by myself so I guess it will be the ide ata then. it doesnt matter if its external or not is it?
If all you see is the disc drive, try checking to see if your hd is set to master or not. If your biso supports it, then change it in our bios, if not, you'll have to open up your computer and take the master switch to your hd and the slave switch to your disc drive.

If none of those work then your chipset isn't supported and you'll just have to hope that uphuck has support for it in his v1.4 dvd.

It would also help if you could post your pc specs as well. ;)

Not as long as your computer can boot from USB, (the options will be in your BIOS), but it will be a bit slower than internal (USB max speed is 0.48 Gbit/sec, ATA-133 is 1.33 Gbit/sec, a 7200 rpm hard-drive usually transfers around 0.65 Mbit/sec max).

Post the error messages you receive when bootiing in verbose mode (-v at the bootloader).

I really hope that more people will do that before posting. I also really hope that you're not trying to install to a SATA drive, as this won't work on nForce chipsets newer than the CK804 nForce4.

Well in that case, Im off to find a ide hd then. or make the driver so that my chipset is supported. whichever comes first.
I had an boot.plist not found error while trying to install this version on osX on my P5B deluxe.

is there a special bios configuration to get?

Hi,

read as much posts as you can before posting. Is there a thread specially for this mobo (motherboard). One of the most popular issues about this release is the fact you need to get and external USB DVD or an internal SATA DVD to install. The IDE to SATA converter solution doesn't work to me.

Yes, the BIOS must be changed:

Go to MAIN menu->IDE Configuration->SATA Configuration Enhanced->Configure SATA AHCI, save changes (f10) and reboot.

Hope this can help you.

Good Luck.

lamentofking i've been posted my labtop spec, can you help me on this case? whats wrong in my vaio? i tried many dvds but none of them works
Sorry !MP. I forgot about your prob in my quest to have my own native hackintosh. Well it seems like you can switch between serial ata and plain ata. Switch your disc and hd drives to ide mode if they arent already. Make sure you also check the HCL list to see if your configuration is compatiable or not. It should be though as I see you have an intel based computer but check anyway.

@ everyone with unsupported/trouble nForce 4 SATA Controller version or other unsuported Southbridge.

This workaround is ONLY repeat ONLY FOR PEOPLE THAT DOES NOT HAVE WORKING PATCHES FOR SOUTHBRIDGE CHANEL or want eSATA capability or want to boot from an external HDD as if it was internal SATA I. SiI 3512 is assumed as if it was the on board SiI controllers some boards already have.

Think I found a easy and affordable way to bypass this without flashing Card BIOS.

Tested and working with osx86 uphuck v1.3 and V1.4i

You need:

~ Affordable PCI SATA Controller with SiI chipset 3512 (€22,0 my case with 1 internal, 1 external port PCI host) this one: VANTEC UGT-ST300 find info here http://www.vantecusa.com/product-peripheral.html# this one accept SATA and SATA2 HDD's max transfer rate is 1.5GB/s, plugged with my HDD's Western Digital 16MB cache run 33MB/s with osx86 and 25MB/s with Vista

~ PCI slot available

~ to know Device and Vendor ID's (my case VEN_1095, Dev_3512 - yrs the same for chipset SiI 5312)

~ go System/Library/Extensions/AppleVIAATA.kext/Contents edit info.plist add ID this way:

- drag info.plist to desktop open with Textedit

- find

<string>AppleVIAATARoot</string>

<key>IOPCIPrimaryMatch</key>

<string>0x31491106 0x00e310de 0x005410de 0x005510de</string>

- add your ID,s (care to NOT change the info.plist format

- save

- drag changed info.plist back to Contents / type password / replace yes

~ open Terminal

type or copy/past this lines followed by enter

sudo su (enter password)

sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/AppleVIAATA*

sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/AppleVIAATA*

sudo rm -f /Library/Preferences/com.apple.window*

rm -f ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.window*

rm -f ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.pref*

sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions.mkext

sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache

~ Close Terminal and open Disk Utility

~ Repair Permissions

~ Shut Down

~ Connect a SATA or SATA2 HDD to PCI host internal port

~ Start your box

~ Hit Del or whatever to enter BIOS and set to boot from the new HDD and save/reboot

~ Insert uphuck DVD

~ tell me you are happy

~ thank uphuck/turk team

~ pass this info

~ do not forget to mention me Carlos Pombo
