If you install without a key, and use this as a trial, wga will work fine... until 30 days are up, then you have to find some article about slmgr, and reset the trial period. Apparently, you can use Vista without a key for approx. 240 days.

To extend your grace period you have to go into the command prompt and type:

slmgr -rearm

That gives it an extra 30 days. And it's legal to. They have an article in the Windows help database on Microsoft.com.

Thing is, it only work 3 times.

Ok so this looks kinda cool but with all that stuff stripped out, why not just use XP or 2k. I take it that most of the drivers will not be installed by default. So the new hardware support will be gone... so isnt that more like win98?

OH well,

Xp was a flowery version of 2k and Vista is a more graphical version of XP so take all the graphics out and extras and you get 2k ... Thats what i see but I till test it out and let you know what I think. :)

Dice :o

Actually it has a far newer kernel and base system which is more secure and faster than 2000 or XP.

That doesn't mean it's exactly magically secure and fancy, but it sure as hell is much better.

Stripped-down versions of Windows are very fast!

They use minimal memory and dont run {censored}.

You can find some good ones such as:

XSOS 2.0 - Windows 2000 stripped to bone!

TinyXP - Windows XP

Tiny2003 - Windows 2003

Windows XP JACKED - Windows XP, claims to use as less as 19MB RAM at startup!

Windows Xtreem - Windows Vista that can be installed on 256MB RAM machines!

These are good for gaming as there are more memory available to your game :P

XSOS and Windows Xtreem, apparently made by the same person are extreme Windows versions that are not stripped by nLite or vLite. But may stripped even down to the DLL level...

I understand what your saying, but I would watch where you use the word secure, when talking about a microsoft product. Last time I checked they were not really leading in any form of security.

Unix server vs. Microsoft? no question.

Anyway, I will give my full test on this image tomorrow or the next day. Install -> testing firefox :P

Dice :)

Oh noes guys! It's Fanboy Hour ™ on InsanelyMac. Windows Vista is *more* secure than Windows XP. Not only that, but it's far more secure when considering alternatives such as SkyOS, BeOS, MorphOS, TriangleOS, I could go on forever. It's questionably less secure for end-users than operating systems people actually use like Linux and OS X, but without penetration testing, it cannot be proven. The fact is that Windows is crappy, but it isn't a steaming pile of {censored}, and that's because Microsoft knows they need to make money. Don't use it if you don't like it, but don't spread FUD, it's retarded. If you want security, use VMS.

Just tried it. It does indeed install and start very fast in Parallels. Very fast.

Unfortunatly, it only has a classic gui and no applicatinos other than ie. For Parallels I don't need much more, but I would like as much of aero as I can get. This version is just too stipped for me. Good try though.

i am not experienced with windows at all, how could i just skip the serial # part completely, and go to the 30 day thing?

You aren't required to enter a serial when installing Vista. You can click continue when it asks your for it and go right to the installation.

I was wondering when this would reach the masses since nLite for vista was released not that long ago like a month i think.

of course its going to run faster cause there are less this that it has to do. and stripping the aero gui will speed anything up.

Google "TimerStop Vista"

Just make sure you turn off automatic updates first and don't install/have already installed KB931573, or you'll be screwed. If you start having problems with Vista after the update, boot into safe mode and remove timerstop.sys (crack file) from the Windows folder.

I was reading that a new crack has started circulation that gives the crack file a random name so the MS update doesn't work? It will also work on systems that have used the rearm trick more than twice.
