Hi asstastic, my laptop is ACER aspire 5595, Mobility Radeon x1600 128mb(64bit) in Mac os x 10.4.8. When i followed chenwk method, I can get the 1280*800 in internal display with full QE/CI, but as chenwk said, the internal LCD flickered. I donnot know how to deal with it. I want to know whether your internal LCD flickered too.

from what i see it seems like upgrading to the radeon drivers released with 10.4.9 have solved issues for some (my display works 100% of the time now and at least one x1700 is now issue free). i would recommend trying an update to 10.4.9 to anyone who can't get their card working. i haven't tried using newer combinations of ATIDRV.kext and IONDRVSupport.kext in fear of breaking my working setup. any one else care to speculate?

no u don't need the macbook pro files...

all u need is:

a fresh install of OSX 10.4.8 without any graphic patches installed and the files i posted...

and i did not talk about deleting the info.plist only... there are 2 info.plists inside of the atiinject.kext .... info.plist and info2.plist...

info2.plist does not contain the external monitor informations... so if u delete info.plist and rename info.plist u should still have a working system... i just cannot imagine anything else why your display is splitted into 4 parts...

I had this problem as well. I fixed it by deleting the info.plist and renaiming info2.plist to info.plist and inserting my EDID on the LVDS EDID line and removed the edid from the crt. I Used JAS 10.4.8 and the atiinject.kext and it works for me .. I also have the 71C5.

Hi everyone!

I'm watching this thread for some time now coz I also have Asus A6ja (x1600 mobility) with problems

like rest of you guys (native resolution, acceleration working but LCD's backlight OFF).

I must say you are doing great job here, helping each other. The reason I never posted here is

coz you guys tried almost everything already :) And I dont see how I can help with post like "I have the same problem - help me".

Anyway now I noticed that rest of you Asus A6ja owners forgot to mention something to skilled ppl who are helping us noobs here.

I dont know if its important but here it is...You guys already said that this Asus model has DVI output

but I didnt notice anyone said that it has VGA too. so that's 3 outputs total - Internal, DVI and VGA +TVout, ok thats 4 hehe. That is what makes it different from other laptops like acer who managed to get internal to work using method explained in this thread. I also did try method with correct EDID several times without success :) I also noticed that msg when using -v option saying something about "vga family failure". After getting a screen without backlight on I used flashlight too and found that under section where is list of loaded extensions there is no ATIinject file listed...so I guess its not loaded at all? However I am a noob here and maybe ATIinject should not be listed there...

I used files attached to post number 33 by sheriffbounce with my EDID ofc, deleted info.plist and renamed info2 to info, copied all that to the folder stated in the guide, did those terminal commands etc...

So I'm asking you skilled guys for some more patience and help. I mean its not like OS freeze or somthing...we have EVERYTHING working except that damn backlight.

I'm here to try out every method you have in mind, give any information I can...I dont care if I have to reinstall OS 10 more times. But I have Mac OS on my home PC runing just great and I just have to have it on Laptop too.

Please dont make me go back to windows :/

Keep up the good work,

UneeK

hi to all,

This is my first post to the forum after testing out the mac os so long!

I've successfully gotten the ATI mobility x1600 driver to work on my internal LCD display, with right directions from the previous post by others (it was so so so helpful, from the plist editor, to getting edid. =D )

what i did was that i downloaded the mobilityx1600.zip (on one of the earliest pages), a modified ATIinject.kext from the later pages (with someone's posted edid modified), and the propertylist editor.

show package info in the ATIinject.kext, delete away info.plist (cos somewhere in the previous thread mentioned that info.plist is for external monitor), renamed info2.plist into info.plist, open it with propertylist editor, you will see root on top, click the arrow by the side, expand all the arrows, and go to LDVS, paste your EDID (get this from phoenix editor).

copy all the ATIDRV.kext, IONDRVSupport.kext and your own EDID's ATIinject.kext into /System/Library/Extensions/

Remember to get info for all the abovementioned 3 kext, set owner to system, group to wheel.

After doing so, i cleared the cache by typing :

rm /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache

rm /System/Library/Extensions.mkext

chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions

kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions

rm /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kernelcaches/*

kextcache -c

and rebooted the pc.

The graphics will and should work after that. hope this is helpful =)

P.S - after i restarted for the first time, it showed blue black stripes of line, in which i restarted the PC, went into the boot with options -v. the screen flickered a little, but i've got 1280x800 resolution on my laptop. =D

Hope this is helpful to people trying to get their ATI graphics working on their internal LCD monitor!

Thx to this and in particular to this "P.S - after i restarted for the first time, it showed blue black stripes of line, in which i restarted the PC, went into the boot with options -v. the screen flickered a little, but i've got 1280x800 resolution on my laptop. =D"

I made it. internal lcd is finally working. but beside from this i lost external monitor.

deleting original info.plist i can't insert edid for external monitor...

Please help! i'm getting crazy... i don't wanna have to choose between external and internal display (that was working like a charm with an installer from jas 10.4.8 release).

I'm fed UP!!! I can't make my ATI Mobility Radeon X1700 (0x71D5) on my Mac OS 1.4.9 it's just impossible. I've tried every single way, every single extension, obtaining always a kernel panic! I install Mac OS at least 20 times!!!

Well, I just don't know what to do, I think I should sell my Asus F3JP and just buy an iMac Pro

What do you think? Is my X1700 absolutely incompatible with Mac? or It is me that I'm stupid? or maybe both? xDD

PLEASE HELP ME!

by the way, thank you in advance! :P

Hi all

I appreciate for your any advice.

I followed exactly the #134 process and my T60p get

- mouse, keyboard, and any other system functions works

- but the screen seperated to 2 parts that I can see 2 menu bar (I will upload the image later)

- switching to any resolution showed in "Display" can not fix it

- with the configuration: EDID modified Info.plist(not Info2.plist), VGA+LCD in BIOS, no external display connected, AC adapter injecting

Once I click the "Detect Displays", everything just goes perfect.

BUT,

And everything just goes fine after I click the "Detect Displays" again.

To Amuraivel:

How about your T60p?

I met the same issues below.

If the backlight goes completely dark when unplugging then the display driver is working.

> Set your "brightness" in the thinkpad bios.

For the split screen, I use:

X1000.kext + display override for based on my panel + ATIInject.kext

As far as the split screen, this is caused by incorrect resolution, if I go below 1024x768, then the screen splits.

Modify your com.apple.boot.plist to your native resolution, e.g., for the SXVGA+

<key>Graphics Mode</key>

<string>1400x1050x32</string>

Hi,

I got the Asus W3J:

Intel Core Duo T2400 1.86 GHz Processor

14" WXGA (1280 x 768) LCD Panel

ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 w/ 256 MB VRAM GPU (512 MB Hypermemory)

80 GB 5400 RPM P-ATA Hard Drive

My EDID is:

00ffffff ffffff00 0daf0314 00000000

020d0103 801f1278 0ae0d596 56528927

004e3134 3041312d 4c30310a 20200017

EDIT3: Ok, I've reinstalled Mac OS X 10.4.9 uphuck. Tried again using Sheriffbounce's kexts, except with the ATIinject.kext changed to the modified value. Changed my EDID's inside, then did the rest (ownership etc. stuff). Finally booted into mac and got the blue/black stripes screen. Rebooted with -v and got the 4 split screens. This is with the com.apple.boot file already set with the proper resolution, which I confirmed in system preferences (1280x768x32). Don't know what to do from here (I read that others had the same problem, but I couldn't see any solutions for them). Any help please? Thanks!

EDIT4: Ok, I got it working! Used Sheriffbounce's kext and modified it myself rather than using the pre-modded ATIinject.kext that someone else had, and it worked perfectly. Thanks to Sheriffbounce and everyone else who made this possible!

Peace!

First, I'm totally n00b in the world of OSX :hbd:

I've installed provided ATi#1 pack (i've copied .kext files to the /System/Libraries/Extensions, then called chown root:wheel, rebuilt kext cache and repaired permissions, then loaded kexts with kextload -t -- i found somewhere that kexts should be installed in this way :) ), and, when i restart, i got scrambled picture (i can see normally only 1/3 of my desktop :S -- rest are blue/white strips).

After that, i've installed Netit drivers (yes, in 1/3 of the desktop :P ), and my screen is black now :S (only works with second monitor attached).

How to get these drivers to work? (I need 1290x900 resolution, 1024x768 is very uncomfortable on my screen)

Thank you --PY

  • 2 weeks later...

I have the exact same problem on a HP NX9420: ATI Mobility X1600 (71c5) with a 1440x900 build-in tft.

I'm using correct versions of ATINDRV.KEXT and IONDRV...kext

- Tried natit.kext (changed EDID data into my own): black screen

- Tried SheriffBounce's ATIinject for the NX9420: black screen

Whenever I connect an external TFT to the VGA-port of the laptop the display on the external screen is ok: QE/CI, resolution switching, rotation supported, etc... So apparently the kext is swapping the displays and is first sending its output to the external port instead of the build-in tft.

When installating Omni's Callisto to have a look at the output of the driver I can see the following message:

port 1: nothing detected

port 2: is connected

so swapping ports

This makes me think the same: somewhere the build-in tft is ranked "second" and the external port "first"

Is there ANY way of switching this in the ATIinject.kext info.plist?

SheriffBounce: are you still here???

Thx for any reply!

Take care,

Tek_No

no one reply's here

The exact directions are already here... OK it IS a very long thread, but search and ye shall find... try my post number 219 for example. The process DID work for me and my ATI mobility 1600. Someone else made an even more detailed description a few pages after my post.

Long live ATIINject! IT even allows me dual display with pure DVI output. Natit in all its flavors never worked on my laptop...

good luck, n.m.

Hey, guys! I have ATI X1600 Mobility on my ACER 5112WLMi laptop.

I tried to do all that you say... But I still have some problems: when I tried boot with ATIinject.kext my Hackintosh doesn't want to boot. It displays only Apple logo on screen and loading stops... My EDID is:

00FFFFFF FFFFFF00 06AF7421 00000000

00423135 34455730 32205631 200A00AA

Can you send compiled ATIinject.kext with this EDID, please? You can attach it in this topic or in PM... It doesn't matter...

Thanks!

P.S.: Sorry for my bad English.

Could I just point out for all the noobs that if you can't get any display on your OS X install (you've never been able to boot into the GUI and you can't get it to work at all) reinstall OS X and don't tick any display drivers. That's right, not ATI, NVIDIA or INTEL. You should be able to boot in now and install kexts, start editing plist's etc.

Sorry to point out what is probably obvious to some but I'd been pulling my hair out trying to work out how to edit a plist in single user mode.

A very good point from ozknight there...

Also one really good tip for noobs is the KEXT HELPER: download it here

It makes adding/changing kexts as easy as drag 'n drop, highly recommended! Saves you all the terminal/typing stuff...

cheers,

ninetto

Dear friends,

I've been studying this post for some time now and decided to give it a try.

I followed the known steps with this EDID on my TOshiba A100-683 with Toshiba A100 kexts from another post:

EDID:

00FFFFFF FFFFFF00 320C0000 00000000

000F0103 80FFFFFF EA0000A0 57499B26

10484F21 08000101 01010101 01010101

01010101 0101D51B 00A05020 17303020

26002115 10000019 00000000 00000000

00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000

00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000

00000000 00000000 00000000 00000051

I replaced EDID in ATIinject's info.plist

Problems occured when copying the 3 files to system\extensions:

One of the files (It wasn't ATIInject but IONDRVsupport.kext or the other one) couldn't be replaced cause OSX said it was in use!!!

What to do????

Probably because of this when I rebooted my OSX booted into Black screen and I can't do anyuthing!!!

So,

1. How can I change back to old / good setting without completely reinstellign all of OSX and formatting my OSX disk?

2. How can I replace the 3 files needed because OSX priompts one of them can't be replaced as it it on use???

Thanks a lot!

Thanks a lot... but that would be quite complicated given the fact that I have a black screen... Any ways to undo the harm from the console (after F8 at boot?)

otherwise I'll reinstall.....

Thanks either way!
