I bet it's the same as yours :-) That's why I think there must be something missing in my conf.

However, typo are always on the way, so double check with you will be very fine :-) .

Besides display there is the broadcom 1gb that's not working, and the intel wireless, but I think we should wait for a compelte solution AFAIK ...

talking about displays, I have found this page:

http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?sto...030212065523164

but as I'm busy working I think I'll give it a try one of these evenings...

Another thing I noticed:

cold starting osx impossible, must write cpus=1 at boot

starting osx after windows (rebooting) 2 cpus ok (no need to write cpus=1)

is it the same for you?

Thank you in advance,

Nick

Sherifbounce !!!

Interesting supervision. Has established MacOS 10.4.8 from Jazz and the variant has not worked after replacement 3 kexts. Has repeated attempt anew - the same result. Has made in an old fashion. Has put 10,4,6, combo update 10.4.8, has replaced kernell and 3 kext and all works wonderfully. I think, it is necessary to look in this direction.

SOLUTION!!! well, a sort of...

This time I got it!!!

Same results as Sheriffbounce (1680X1050 and reschange), but I've had to modify a couple of things:

I must premit I started from the kext Sheriffbounce posted some time ago in this thread.

First, IOPCImatch in Info.plist, and consequently Info2.plist, was wrong; was 0x00001002&0x0000ffff

and should be 0x71C51002;

In second place as I was getting nothing with the Info.plist with one monitor, I tried to put two identical edid in DFP1,EDID and LVDS,EDID - the keys of Info2.plist.

and Tah dah!!! 1680x1050 and res change.... very good ....

Many thanks to Sheriffbounce for he pointed me to the right direction.

here is the kext I use: remember to modify accordingly with your configuration (EDID is good for hp9420, change it for your conf)

cheers,

Nick

Hi Koala,

I never had this problem, but you can try with cpus=1 platform=ACPI

as startup options; this seems to fix many problems. Also try to disable SATA native support in bios, if you have a SATA hd, of course.

However I think you better check partition table...

But in this forum there are some other threads about this problem.

Keep us informed,

cheers,

Nick

Hi,

It seems that you have the same problem as me... :)

Like nick told in this threat, i tried 1400x1050 res changing the default value in com.apple.boot etc. (1680X1050 not working) and it works, but with mouse tearing, it's better however than with 1024X768...

So at the moment if your ATIINJECT file doesn't load properly, try this method...

What is your config? did you fill in the plist the right information about your card (vendor id etc...)?

Good luck...

I will try by my side to make it works with ATIINJECT...it has to work!!!! lol

cheers

Hi,

Try the way I described in my last post;

I.e.

Use plist editor to make changes;

check :

---------:<--------

<key>IOPCIMatch</key>

<string>0x71C51002</string>

---------:<--------

is written this way (no "&" in the middle)

and put your edid in both places of the old Info2.plist (in my attached files is already named Info.plist) this way:

---------:<--------

<key>DFP1,EDID</key>

<data>

AP///////wAyDIkSAAAAAAAPAQOAJRd4CiMAmFhRjCkm

UFQAAAABAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBqC+Q4GAaEEAgQBMA

b+YQAAAYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA/gBMR1Bo

aWxpcHNMQ0QKAAAA/gBMUDE3MVdFMi1UTDAzAHA=

</data>

<key>LVDS,EDID</key>

<data>

AP///////wAyDIkSAAAAAAAPAQOAJRd4CiMAmFhRjCkm

UFQAAAABAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBqC+Q4GAaEEAgQBMA

b+YQAAAYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA/gBMR1Bo

aWxpcHNMQ0QKAAAA/gBMUDE3MVdFMi1UTDAzAHA=

</data>

<key>device-id</key>

---------:<--------

after that,

rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions.mkext

rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache

be careful not to rm the whole Extensions dir (yes, I did this once, too many yawns at 3.00 am LOL).

keep us informed,

cheers,

hi mate!

I've tryied the com.apple.boot and your way but still the same problem, it seems that it doesn't want to change from 1024x768. deam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my kernel version is 8.8.1 (jas' DVD 10.4.8) any chance for this to be the problem???

in the attachment:

don't I have to change those??

post-83643-1171883300_thumb.jpg

and look I get from the Device Manager for ati:

post-83643-1171883487_thumb.jpg

I have connected my monitor to 3 external TVs and now I get this. Maybe the phoenix tool generates a EDID data wrong because of those???

My monitor is the highlighted in the pic.

yes, congrats on the success! now I think I am also very close: your tip to check the string after <key>IOPCIMatch</key> looks IMPORTANT... mine did in fact have the deadly "&" mess in there like this:

<string>0x00001002&0x0000ffff</string>

BUT can you tell me what the data in this string is refering to? Did you change it manually?

thanks for any advice in advance...

regards,

ninetto

p.s. my laptop is a Mitac barbone (goes by the name Nexoc in Deutschland)

yes that would be the string to edit: change it to:

<string>0xXXXX1002</string>

where XXXX being one of the 13 device id's for the X1600, set it to yours

it would be one of the following:

0x7140, 0x7181, 0x71a1, 0x71c0
0x71c2, 0x71c5, 0x71cd, 0x71e0
0x71e2, 0x71e6, 0x71ed, 0x1a1
0x7160

you can find out in windows device manager.

help that helps a few out.

YIKES, this thread is gettin' long and tiresome... BUT please one last query...

Of course I have added my EDID to Nick's KEXT and I have changed my device ID as Nick/Diabolik mentioned in the STRING after IOPCImatch...

But for SOME CRAZY and I'm sure LOGICAL reason, my HackinLaptop' still keeps the old ID "0x71c5" instead of my corrected ID "0x71c2".

MY QUESTION:

Is there some other line where the device ID for the screen has to go? Other plist?

ninetto

OK, even though I have not had success yet (UPADTE : yes-yes-yes with DUAL DISPLAY and PURE DVI, see signature) with my ATI x1600 mobility(256MB +256) in a Mitac Barebone/15.4 Screen/Core 2 duo 7200 Laptop I'll list a summary of "things-to-do" for others, to recap this long thread. If there is something I got wrong or someone wants to add, please do.

1. Get your EDID of your internal screen with Phoenix-Tool. Format it with TextEdit into blocks of 8 characters. Now is also the time to plug in your secondary display and get its EDID too, if you want to try to add that in the playlist also.

2. Get the device ID of your card, via e.g. Device Manager. It will be a six digit looking something like "0x71e2"

3. There are different flavors of ATIkexts out there, lots of them in fact. There seems to be conflicting reports if it is enough to just use ATIINJECT + ATIDRV (see http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=36462) or THE MAXX3200 original post, but there are lots of success stories using all three files, including IONDRVSupport.kext from the older JAS 10.4.5 DVD like SHIERRFBOUNCE (post#25). SHIERFBOUNCE was kind enough to post many modified kexts. Pick one close to your machine.

Somewhere I read that you should remove a lot of the original ATIrage/radeon.kexts, plus Natit/Callisto first... but I am starting with a clean install so I ignored this advice. ANBODY know the bottom-line on THIS???

4. Editing the plist in ATIINJECT with Playlist editior (get it at:here). This is where things get a bit murky. There are two plists. It seems like info.plist is the IMPORTANT one & info2.plist has an effect on secondary displays.

I edit the kext before placing them in the extensions folder. The EDID is crucial: original instruction was that LVDS,EDID was for internal display and DFP1 for external, but at least one person had success when placing his EDID in BOTH lines. Be really careful inserting the EDID not adding spaces or deleting the "<>" ... that screwed me up at least once.

5. Editing the plist (contd.) Check the IOPCIMatch Key to be sure your Device ID (step 2) is correctly displayed. It should be "0xXXXX1002" where the large XXXX is your device ID. Delete any "&amp..." garbage in this key.

6. Save info.plist. Some people have deleted one or the other plists, using only one. I don't know what effect or logic is behind this. I have only one plist in my version.

7. Insert ATIINJECT and ATIDRV kexts. (option: also IONDRVSupport.kext?) into SYSTEM/LIBRARY/EXTENSIONS

8. as usual,

open terminal

type:

sudo -s

enter ur password

cd /system/library/extensions

chown -R root:wheel atiinject.kext

chmod -R 755 atiinject.kext

9: NEW: for the fast and super easy was to add new kexts without all the terminal typing check out KEXT HELPER http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...;hl=kext+helper

Then you can ignore all the parts in STEP 8! Highly recommended, especially for noobs...

GOOD LUCK to ALL!

regards, n.m.

Hey ninetto,

tryout my NatitX1600.kext

it has your mobility support already in it.

also you dont need atiinject you just add your edid to the info.plist of the NatitX1600.kext.

check it out in my thread.

Hi Diabolik,

Have a question 4 you: Is tis kext working with ati mobility x1700, considering that the device ID is 71D4 and changing the EDID?

Thanks!

the sweet smell of SUCCESS! ! :):P:star_smile:

with x1600 ati mobility (256 +256 MB) in a Mitac Barebone Laptop (Branded Nexoc Osiris with 15.4 screen and Core2Duo 7200 ...

Now I have full 1280 x 800 resolution on my screen and the GUI is rocket-fast! (naturally with QE and CI)

I must say, the solution is all here in this thread... especially all the patient posts of Mr. Shierffbounce (hut ab, und tausend dank)

It was after reading his posts for like 4x I suddenly realized it was me who was {censored} up and not the advice of others.

TWO THINGS for beginners like me:

I was simply not chown adn chmod -ing the ATINDRV adn IONDRVSUPPORT kexts, I was only using these commands on the ATIINJECT (!) as clearly stated in Shierffbounce post #134

Also I did remove info.plist (one) and used simply info2.plist. Only added my EDID to Shierffbounce's Kext.

The only kink is getting the dual display working, I will try playing around more with the playlists next week, adding lines....etc.

Hope this helps others...

Hi-side,

ninetto

Does anybody have EDID numbers for Acer 15.4" 1680x1050 LCD? It is branded as Samsung LTN154P1-L02, Monitor ID is SEC3146. I checked it with Everest. I have ATI Mobility X1600 card on my laptop. My Laptop model is Acer 8215WLMi. I tried softMCCS and get-edid.exe. softMCCS could not find any information for this LCD and get-edid.exe also did not give any EDID numbers when I tried. I am not sure if I did something wrong.

Thanks

For all others: No Laptop, so no work on X1700, so no updates! Above is only instructions for ninetto...
