@schrup21 I've seen that posted as well.  Why are hfsplus.efi and apfs_aligned.efi considered to be mutually exclusive?  I would think that both are required.

Hi all!

Is the DP3 to DP4 incremental or a full upgrade? I am getting 17.36 GB download.Skrmavbild2025-07-24kl_19_52_26.png.45232b3760ac1b9d0e84bb7cd03befcf.png

@calmesal, @meg2014: If you are using OCLP-mod revert the root patch before the upgrade and you will get the incremental instead of the full upgrade.

Can you share your EFI?

What is your RX6600 brand?

My RX6600 is Asus Dual Fan model. And use HDMI. Normally i got black screen without WEG and pike bootarg in Sequoia.

@KGP-iMacPro and everyone else!  It's over and done - literally days ago. And I don't care how big or not so big it was.  My system, now, is working extremely well.  And, for the third (!!) time, I do NOT use OCLP or OCLP-Mod....

@deeveedeeThis is my understanding too after reading the bug created in the acidanthera repo to address the FileVault issue in Tahoe. Both files are required.

Compared to Beta4, there is almost no difference. If you don't want to upgrade, you don't need to download😢

Thats not what i meant. You posted a link and compared it with B4

Anyway, i verified it. You were comparing it with Public.  All good 👍

Anyone else notice that the USB configuration has changed in Tahoe Beta 4? In Sequoia, my USB's all show as per my USBMap.kext but in Beta 4, all those squared in black does not show. I have booted between these 2 OS's 3 times to verify and its the same, Sequoia everything shows and work but Tahoe its gone.

hfsplus + jumpstart is actually required by the installer; without it, the installation fails after the first step (updates don't require hfsplus). Otherwise, apfs_aligned + disabled jumpstart is sufficient to load/update macOS.

Edit - I need to clarify this a bit: it is indeed possible to load apfs_aligned (+jumpstart disabled) and hfsplus, which both bypasses the FV password issue and allows installation via the "install macOS xx" installer to work.

Sorry, I've never tried that, but I just checked. Both efis are enabled in UEFI / Drivers, Jumpstart is disabled – both FV passwords are working, and the Tahohe Beta installation via a USB installer is also successful.

Who tried the published beta, is there the applehda.kext? Or even there it was removed..

Apple will never recover a deleted kernel extension, keep this in mind

oooooops! anybody experienced this..to kindly help out here...

This usually happens when you boot the system form two different EFI folders. If you boot the system form one EFI and try to update the system from another EFI with different settings and kexts this error occurs.

I'm not seeing any problems with USB mapping after the Tahoe Beta 3 -> Beta 4 upgrade.  My USBPorts.kext is the original USBPorts.kext generated by Hackintool (used since macOS Catalina) with only the addition of usb-port-type and usb-port-number.  The map has only 15 USB ports.

How many ports are in your USB port map?

Hi everyone

as I read many times about the password issue: a workaround is to load apfs_aligned.efi instead of hfsplus.efi. In addition apfs jumpstart has to be disabled.

https://github.com/acidanthera/bugtracker/issues/2499#issuecomment-2993805720

Edit: both can be loaded.

Thanks. @schrup21 I've got a stuck login screen after entering password on non-encrypted volume (I never use FileVault). For update to Beta 5, I will try apfs_aligned.efi with Opencore (like Clover is using  apfs.efi instead of Jumpstart).

Just my opinion, I believe there are lot of bugs like that on Beta macOS Tahoe. 😊

You're right @deeveedee Since few years, I use SSDT for USB Ports. Because USBMap.kext has model key depending of SMBIOS.

For example, at the end of Info.plist

<key>model</key>
<string>iMac19,1</string>

Confirming after testing fresh install, I have the option turning OFF

So @vit9696 is right using apfs_aligned.efi
